For a new Hisense Mini-LED TV, start with Filmmaker Mode or the closest film-oriented preset for movies and shows, then check local dimming, motion processing, and brightness using the content and room where you actually watch. There is no reliable universal set of slider values: menus and picture behavior vary by model, region, and software, and picture settings may change with the signal type.
Before changing settings, identify your exact TV
Find the complete model code on the TV label or in its About screen, and note your country or region and operating system. Then locate the manual for that exact model. Hisense’s VIDAA U9 manual documents picture controls for that model and platform, but its menu wording should not be assumed to match other Hisense sets or software versions.
This matters because a guide for one model family may not describe the controls on another. RTINGS’ recommendations, for example, cover specific tested models, including the Hisense U7N and Hisense U6SF Pro; they are not a universal Hisense calibration recipe.
Use a film-oriented preset as your starting point
For movies and scripted shows, select Filmmaker Mode if your TV offers it. Otherwise, try the closest Cinema or film-oriented preset. Hisense says its U7 Mini-LED Filmmaker Mode adjusts video to its original settings so viewers can see and hear details “as it was originally envisioned.” That is the manufacturer’s description, not an independent measurement of every model.

- NATIVE 165HZ PANEL WITH GAME BOOSTER 288: Turbo power your gaming! The Native 165Hz Panel has a Variable Refresh Rate of 48Hz to 165Hz, almost as fast as your reaction time. AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, Auto Low Latency Mode and Low Latency MEMC eliminate screen tearing and controller lag. And with our new Game Bar you can control multiple game settings right from your TV remote and on-screen display
- ENHANCED GAME BAR: Enjoy your gaming dashboard and manage performance in real time. Seamlessly adjust settings and monitor gameplay data as you play. Lead the moment. Play to win
- ANTI-REFLECTION PRO: Keep your eye on the ball all day and all night long. Anti-Reflection Pro incorporates a special coating into the liquid crystal layer of the screen to minimize glare and reflections, so you can see the picture in all of its vibrancy and detail without any interference
Compare the film preset with the TV’s default using familiar content in your usual viewing room. A vivid or highly processed mode may look more striking at first, while a film-oriented mode is intended as a more faithful presentation. Which looks preferable is partly a matter of room conditions and personal taste.
Adjust settings for the signal you are watching
Play the content you want to watch and confirm which picture mode is active before changing controls. A TV can use different modes or settings for SDR, HDR, Dolby Vision, and gaming; advice for one signal should not be assumed to carry over to another. RTINGS separates its U7N guidance by content type, illustrating why adjustments should be checked in the relevant mode.

- Start playback. Use the source and content type you want to adjust.
- Open the picture controls. Confirm the active mode and signal format in the TV’s menus, using the exact-model manual if needed.
- Make and assess changes in that mode. Recheck other formats separately rather than assuming one change applies everywhere.
Set local dimming by watching for its tradeoffs
Local dimming controls how the TV’s backlight zones respond to bright and dark parts of an image. A higher setting can suit some viewers, but zone changes may be distracting to others. RTINGS used High for the U7N it tested and notes that viewers bothered by transitions can lower it. Treat that as model-specific guidance, not a rule for every Hisense Mini-LED TV.

Watch a scene with bright objects against a dark background, then try the available local-dimming levels. Keep the level that best balances dark-scene appearance with transitions you can comfortably watch; use your manual to confirm what each option does on your set.

Choose motion processing to match your preference
Motion smoothing can make movement appear more fluid, but it can also change the cadence viewers expect from films. If you prefer a cinematic look, reduce or disable smoothing and compare the same scene. If you prefer smoother movement—perhaps for sports—you may choose to keep some processing enabled. The labels and controls vary by model.
Hisense’s German-language setup advice recommends reducing automatic processing, including sharpness and automatic contrast or noise filters, and starting with a film-oriented preset. That regional guidance supports comparing less processing, but it does not provide a universal numerical setting for every model or market.

Set brightness for the room, not a universal number
Adjust the picture’s perceived brightness to suit the room and the time of day you watch. A brighter room may call for a different preference than a dark one, but the available guidance does not establish one brightness value for all Hisense Mini-LED TVs. Keep this distinction clear: changing brightness for comfort is a preference adjustment, not a measured calibration.

If you play games, use the TV’s game mode and consult its exact-model manual for relevant controls. Movie-mode adjustments are not automatically the right settings for games, and the sources do not establish a universal gaming configuration across models.

A practical setup sequence
- Record the full model code, country or region, and TV operating system; find the matching Hisense manual.
- For movies and shows, start with Filmmaker Mode or the closest film-oriented preset, then compare it with the default using familiar content.
- Check which picture mode is active with the specific SDR, HDR, Dolby Vision, or other signal you intend to watch.
- Test local dimming in dark scenes and adjust it if zone transitions bother you; use model-specific advice only for the model it covers.
- Compare motion processing on and off, or at different available levels, based on whether you prefer film cadence or smoother movement.
- Adjust perceived brightness for your viewing environment, without treating a preference setting as a calibration result.
- Set up games separately in game mode and refer to the exact-model manual.
These everyday adjustments do not require calibration equipment. Measurement tools are an optional route for viewers seeking measured calibration, not a prerequisite for basic setup.
