There is no single best phone for everyone in 2026. The right choice depends on your budget, preferred operating system, camera needs, screen size and how long you plan to keep the phone. Reviewed buying guides point to the iPhone 17 as a broad-use iPhone, the Google Pixel 10 as an Android all-rounder, the Nothing Phone 4a as a lower-cost option, the OnePlus 15 as a premium Android and the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra for a large screen and advanced features. Those are publishers’ editorial picks, not results from one shared head-to-head test.

Which phone is right for you?
Choose the iPhone 17 for a general-purpose iPhone
Stuff’s review reports a 120Hz display, a dual 48MP camera system and a day of mixed-use battery life. It also identifies the missing telephoto lens as a limitation. Treat these as Stuff’s review findings rather than a guarantee of results for every user.

Stuff lists a 6.3-inch display, Tensor G5, 12GB of RAM, 128GB or 256GB of storage and a 4,970mAh battery. Its review describes day-long battery use. If you take lots of photos or keep many apps and downloads on the phone, weigh the 128GB base configuration against the 256GB option before buying.

Consider the Nothing Phone 4a when price matters
Stuff positions this model as a budget all-rounder and says its 50W wired charging is faster than Google or Samsung alternatives for similar money. That comparison is time-sensitive, and the guide flags that the phone is not officially available in the US. Check local distribution, warranty and network support rather than assuming the same offer or availability everywhere.
Look at the OnePlus 15 for a premium Android
Stuff’s recommendation emphasizes speed and battery life, while noting a resolution trade-off linked to the high-refresh display. If you value a crisp display more than smooth scrolling or responsiveness, compare the screen experience in person where possible.

Pick the Galaxy S26 Ultra for its large-screen features
Stuff highlights the S Pen, Privacy Display, performance and cameras. It is the option on this list most clearly aimed at someone who wants a large-screen phone with specialized features, rather than simply the least expensive way to handle everyday tasks.
Compare the Pixel 10a and ROG Phone 9 Pro for specific priorities
For a lower-cost alternative, TechRadar reports that the Pixel 10a lasted 15 hours 16 minutes in Future PLC’s lab battery test—more than two hours longer than the Pixel 9a in the same test—and says Google promises seven years of major Android OS and security updates. That is a publication-reported lab result, not a forecast of your personal battery life; check Google’s current support terms for your market.

The Asus ROG Phone 9 Pro is a specialist choice for gaming and battery endurance, not an automatic upgrade for everyone. Tom’s Guide recorded 20 hours 34 minutes in its battery test and flags the phone’s camera trade-offs, cost and limited remaining software support. Consider those compromises alongside gaming features before choosing it over a general-purpose phone.
How to compare phones before buying
Use the same priorities for each model rather than relying on a single “best phone” label. Give more weight to factors that affect your daily use, and confirm details for the exact storage version and market you plan to buy.

- Price and value: Compare the live local price for the same storage configuration. The reviewed guides do not establish current marketplace prices.
- Cameras: Check whether you need a telephoto lens, flexible focal lengths or dependable everyday photography. A high megapixel count alone does not settle which camera is better.
- Battery and charging: Look at both test method and charging needs. A battery figure from one publication should not be treated as directly comparable with another publication’s result.
- Display and size: Decide whether you prefer a compact phone, a larger screen, a high refresh rate or a particular display feature.
- Performance and storage: Match the processor and available storage to your games, apps, photos and expected years of use.
- Software support: Check the update commitment for the exact phone and region, especially if you intend to keep the device for several years.
- Practical ownership: Verify warranty coverage, repair options, carrier compatibility and local availability before ordering.
How to interpret battery-test results
Battery runtimes are meaningful only in the context of how they were measured. Tom’s Guide says its test continuously surfs the web until a phone runs out of power. In its 2026 guide, it puts the average phone result for that test near 11 hours and says leading tested devices may reach 16 hours or longer. Those are Tom’s Guide’s test-context figures, not a universal average or a promise of everyday screen time.

Because the publications use their own testing and conditions, the figures are not a direct apples-to-apples ranking. Real-world battery life also depends on signal strength, brightness, apps and usage.
