For Android phones, the right over-ear Bluetooth headphones depend on the phone’s codec support, how much battery life you need, and which extras matter to you. The Sony WH-1000XM6 offers LDAC and multipoint; the Sennheiser MOMENTUM 4 Wireless has the highest stated battery figure, with a specific test condition; and Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones offer two-device multipoint and Bose’s Immersive Audio features. Manufacturer specifications do not establish a universal sound-quality winner, and their battery ratings are not directly comparable.

Quick comparison

Headphones Listed Bluetooth codecs Manufacturer battery rating Useful features
Sony WH-1000XM6 SBC, AAC, LDAC, and LC3. Sony lists LC3 for LE Audio; codec use depends on the connection mode and compatible devices. Up to 30 hours with noise canceling on, or up to 40 hours with it off, according to Sony’s US specifications. Multipoint, adaptive noise cancellation, and app features.
Sennheiser MOMENTUM 4 Wireless aptX Adaptive, AAC, and SBC. Up to 60 hours. Sennheiser’s detailed condition is Bluetooth and ANC at medium volume using an iPhone. Adaptive ANC, transparency, EQ, and app-based sound personalization.
Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones Android-specific codec benefits are not established by the Bose product page cited here. Up to 24 hours in Quiet or Aware mode, according to Bose. Multipoint for two source devices, Immersive Audio, and CustomTune.

These are manufacturers’ claims, not results from one common test. In particular, the Sennheiser figure comes with a stated test condition, while the cited Sony and Bose pages do not establish matching test conditions. Treat the numbers as product guidance rather than a reliable head-to-head ranking of real-world runtime.

How to choose headphones for your Android phone

Check codec support on both devices

Bluetooth audio codecs are negotiated between the phone and headphones. A headset’s support for LDAC or aptX Adaptive does not mean an Android phone will use that codec: the specific phone and its software implementation must also support it. Sony says that a higher-quality codec may need to be selected or enabled on the connected device. Its WH-1000XM6 guide explains that LDAC applies to Classic Audio, while LC3 is for LE Audio, which has separate compatibility and settings requirements.

Sony describes LDAC as transmitting approximately three times more data than SBC at the bit rates it compares. That is a technical data-rate claim, not proof that every listener will hear an improvement. Sony’s guidance is: “If the connected device supports a codec of higher sound quality than SBC, you may need to set the device beforehand to enjoy music with the desired codec from the supported codecs.” Sony WH-1000XM6 Help Guide

Decide how much battery life you need

If the stated maximum is your main filter, MOMENTUM 4 Wireless has the largest manufacturer figure in this comparison: up to 60 hours under Sennheiser’s stated Bluetooth, ANC, medium-volume test using an iPhone. It is not a guarantee for an Android phone or every setting. Sony lists up to 30 hours with noise canceling enabled and up to 40 hours with it disabled on its US specifications page. Bose lists up to 24 hours in Quiet or Aware mode. Volume, listening features, connection, and usage affect actual runtime, so allow for results to vary.

Match the controls and listening features to your habits

  • For codec options and multipoint: Sony lists SBC, AAC, LDAC, and LC3, plus multipoint. Check the relevant phone and connection mode if you are buying specifically for LDAC or LE Audio.
  • For an app with sound adjustments: Sennheiser lists EQ and sound personalization alongside adaptive ANC and transparency.
  • For Bose’s listening modes and two-device switching: Bose lists Immersive Audio, CustomTune, and multipoint for two source devices.

Multipoint can make it easier to move between two connected sources, but the manufacturers’ listed support does not establish identical switching behavior across phones, computers, and other devices. Check the product’s current instructions if a particular workflow is essential.

What to expect from sound quality

The available product specifications describe different approaches to tuning and processing, but do not provide a controlled listening comparison across all three headphones. Sony lists LDAC and DSEE Extreme; Sennheiser lists a 42 mm transducer system, customizable EQ, and sound personalization; Bose describes CustomTune and Immersive Audio. These are manufacturer-described features, not independent evidence that one model will sound better to every listener.

Choose based on features you can verify and preferences you can assess: codec compatibility, adjustment options, and fit. If possible, try the headphones with your phone and the music or audio you normally use. Comfort and preferred tuning are personal, so a codec label or battery rating alone cannot settle sound quality.

Which one should you choose?

  • Choose Sony WH-1000XM6 if LDAC support, listed multipoint, and the option of up to 30 hours with noise canceling enabled suit your priorities—and your phone supports the codec you want to use.
