The best online fitness class depends on what will keep you exercising. Daily Burn is the strongest starting point for beginners who want a prescribed path, Nike Training Club is the clearest free option, Apple Fitness+ fits Apple households that prefer short polished sessions, Peloton is a strong choice for instructor-led cardio and community motivation, LES MILLS+ brings branded studio classes home, and Alo is especially appealing for yoga, mobility, and broader wellness content.
These are use-case recommendations rather than a universal ranking. Before subscribing, compare the programming structure, class types, instructor guidance, modifications, live and on-demand access, equipment, supported devices, offline viewing, community features, and total cost. A platform is useful only if its classes fit your schedule and you will actually use them.

How to choose an online fitness platform
Start with the type of exercise you are most likely to complete, then check whether the service can support a balanced week. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that adults get at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity per week, or 75 minutes of vigorous activity, or an equivalent combination. It also recommends muscle-strengthening activity on at least two days per week involving all major muscle groups. Some activity is better than none.
#1 Best Overall
- Extra thick, cushy floor mat in Black for yoga, gym, and everyday exercise
- 1/2 inch thickness offers comfortable padded support and shock absorption; textured surface provides extra traction
- Durable foam construction offers stretchability and springs back into shape
- Elastic strap for secure rolled-up mat storage and easy over-the-shoulder carrying
- Wipes clean easily
That does not mean every person needs a long, formal workout every day. Short classes, walks, strength sessions, mobility work, and recovery sessions can be combined. For example, Apple Fitness+ offers sessions from five to 45 minutes, while Daily Burn’s daily format and other platforms’ programs can provide a more regular schedule.
When comparing services, ask:
- Is there a path to follow? Programs, calendars, daily releases, and progressive plans reduce decision fatigue. A huge catalog is less useful if you do not know what to do next.
- Does it cover enough modalities? A sustainable routine may need cardio, strength, mobility, and recovery rather than one class type alone.
- Are modifications explained? Beginners should be able to reduce impact, change range of motion, or use a simpler variation without guessing.
- Do you want live or on-demand classes? A daily release is not necessarily a live class. Check the current membership description if real-time scheduling matters to you.
- What equipment is actually required? Requirements vary by class. “Equipment-free library” does not mean every workout is equipment-free.
- Where will you watch? Confirm support for your phone, tablet, browser, smart TV, streaming platform, or casting method.
- Can you exercise without an internet connection? Download support is platform- and device-specific. LES MILLS+ documents offline downloads on Android and iOS; do not assume every service offers the same feature.
- What creates accountability? Instructor familiarity, community activity, scheduled classes, streaks, programs, and reminders motivate different people.
The best online fitness classes by use case
1. Daily Burn: best for beginners who want a plan
Daily Burn is a strong fit for someone starting, restarting, or repeatedly abandoning home workouts because the next session is hard to choose. Its documented offering combines trainer-led streaming workouts with structured programs covering strength, HIIT, cardio, Pilates, barre, yoga, and beginner training.
The service also offers Daily Burn 365, a format built around releasing a workout each day. Daily Burn says those sessions are designed for people beginning or restarting fitness and include modifications. That combination—regular direction, several class types, and options to adjust a workout—is more valuable for many beginners than an enormous but unstructured video library.
Daily Burn supports streaming through web browsers, iOS, Android, Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire, and Chromecast. That gives it practical flexibility if you want to move between a phone, computer, and television.
Choose Daily Burn if: you want a guided path, need beginner-oriented instruction, or experience decision fatigue when faced with too many videos.
Look elsewhere if: your main motivation comes from a live community, a highly specialized cardio machine, or a free service. Daily Burn’s pricing, trials, and promotional offers are volatile, so confirm them on the current signup page. Its comparison pages are promotional company material, not independent testing.
2. Nike Training Club: best free option
Nike Training Club is the clearest recommendation for readers who want guided workouts without paying a recurring subscription. Nike currently presents NTC as a free service with trainer, athlete, and wellness-expert guidance. Workouts include HIIT, yoga, bodyweight training, and other formats, while multi-week programs offer more progression than a random-video approach.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsNTC also includes practical content related to nutrition, recovery, and mindset. Nike’s help material describes class-style workouts, whiteboard workouts, programs, and guidance, so users can choose either a follow-along experience or a more self-directed training format.
This makes NTC particularly useful for a beginner who wants instruction but is not ready to compare multiple paid memberships. It is also a sensible low-risk way to establish whether you prefer short bodyweight sessions, yoga, HIIT, or a multi-week plan.

- THICK 1/2-INCH NBR FOAM CUSHIONING – High-density NBR foam creates a soft, supportive surface with generous cushioning between you and hard floors. Comfortable under knees, elbows, hips, and your back during yoga, Pilates, stretching, core exercises, and floor workouts.
- VERSATILE YOGA & EXERCISE MAT – The 68" x 24" cushioned surface is ideal for yoga, Pilates, stretching, sit-ups, planks, mobility work, bodyweight exercises, and everyday home fitness. The thick NBR foam makes it especially comfortable for exercises performed on your knees, back, hands, or elbows.
- LATEX-FREE NBR FOAM & EASY CARE – Made from high-density NBR foam without latex, this cushioned exercise mat is mold and mildew resistant for easier everyday care. The low-maintenance surface wipes clean after workouts, helping keep your yoga and fitness space fresh and ready for your next routine.
- SOFT SURFACE FOR ADDED GRIP – The textured surface helps provide grip and stability during yoga poses, Pilates, stretching, planks, core exercises, and other floor workouts, helping you stay comfortable and supported as you move.
- CARRY STRAP FOR EASY STORAGE & TRANSPORT – Roll up the flexible NBR mat and secure it with the included carrying strap for convenient storage at home or easy transport to the gym, studio, or fitness class.
Choose Nike Training Club if: price is the deciding factor, you want trainer-led instruction, and you are comfortable assembling your own weekly mix or following one of its programs.
Look elsewhere if: you want a large premium ecosystem, consistent live class scheduling, extensive equipment-linked features, or a platform whose primary selling point is social accountability. Nike’s catalog changes, and its current product pages do not establish a stable workout count, so claims about a precise number of classes should be treated cautiously.

Apple Fitness+ is a particularly convenient option for people already using Apple hardware and services. Apple’s guide lists Strength, Yoga, HIIT, Core, Cycling, and other workout types. Sessions range from five to 45 minutes, and class details identify items such as the playlist, music genre, and required equipment.
That short-session range is useful when the barrier is time rather than motivation. You can fit a five- or 10-minute mobility or core session into a busy day, then combine longer strength or cardio classes when your schedule permits. Apple also maintains programs and collections that combine related activities, including running-oriented strength, yoga, treadmill, and cooldown content.
Fitness+ works best when the Apple-device experience is an advantage rather than an inconvenience. Compatibility, subscription requirements, and tracking features can differ by device, country, and exact use case. Do not assume an Apple Watch is mandatory for every way of using the service, but do check Apple’s current requirements before paying.
Choose Apple Fitness+ if: you already own compatible Apple devices, value consistent production and music integration, and want to mix concise sessions across strength, cardio, yoga, core, and recovery.
Look elsewhere if: you use Android or non-Apple hardware, want a prominent community-first experience, or prefer a studio brand’s choreographed group formats. The service’s convenience is strongest inside the Apple ecosystem.
4. Peloton: best for instructor-led motivation and cardio communities
Peloton is no longer only a cycling proposition. Current company materials describe a free app membership tier and paid app tiers with content spanning strength, meditation, outdoor walking, yoga, and other workouts. Peloton remains especially associated with instructor-led cycling and running, but its broader app content also supports rowing, walking, treadmill training, strength, and cross-training.
Peloton’s main advantage is motivational style: recognizable instructors, polished classes, and a community-oriented experience can make scheduled or repeatable training feel more engaging. That is a different value proposition from Daily Burn’s structured beginner path or NTC’s no-subscription access.

- Extra thick, cushy floor mat in Pink for yoga, gym, and everyday exercise
- 1/2 inch thickness offers comfortable padded support and shock absorption; textured surface provides extra traction

- Elastic strap for secure rolled-up mat storage and easy over-the-shoulder carrying
- Wipes clean easily
Be careful when comparing memberships. The app-only experience is not automatically equivalent to an all-access equipment membership. Some features may depend on the paid tier, the hardware you own, and whether you are using Peloton equipment or another compatible setup. Confirm current membership names, prices, equipment limits, and class access before subscribing.

5. LES MILLS+: best for studio-style group fitness at home
LES MILLS+ is the clearest fit for people who like the energy, choreography, music, and branded formats of a group-fitness studio. The service currently advertises more than 2,500 online workouts across strength, cardio, Pilates, yoga, HIIT, cycling, martial arts, wellness, and recovery.
Its named formats include BODYPUMP, BODYCOMBAT, BODYATTACK, BODYSTEP, BODYBALANCE, RPM, LES MILLS SPRINT, and LES MILLS CORE. This makes the catalog easier to understand for someone who already knows what kind of studio class they enjoy. It also provides a broader mix than a service focused only on yoga or only on cycling.
Recommended Free Tools
LES MILLS+ supports phones, tablets, computers, and TV devices. Its FAQ documents downloads for offline use on Android and iOS, which can be useful when a stable connection is unavailable. Check the class description before starting: many sessions are equipment-free, but selected workouts use resistance bands, weight plates, a barbell, a step, or a stationary bike.
Choose LES MILLS+ if: you want recognizable studio formats and music-driven classes that cover cardio, strength, martial-arts-inspired training, Pilates, yoga, and recovery.
Look elsewhere if: you want highly individualized coaching, a very quiet or minimalist presentation, or a routine requiring no equipment in every class. The service’s facility-facing business materials mention an affiliate opportunity, but that does not by itself verify a general consumer-publisher affiliate program.
6. Alo Wellness Club / Alo Moves: best for yoga, mobility, and broader wellness
Alo is a strong option when the goal is not just a workout but a visually distinctive wellness library. Alo’s current Wellness Club page describes a free app with more than 4,000 classes and 300 programs covering Pilates, yoga, mindfulness, sleep, nutrition, and related wellness content.

- CARE INSTRUCTIONS: 1.Clean with damp cloth (cold water) or mild detergent, dry flat. 2.Do not use a washing machine or dryer or exposed to the sun for extended periods of time. 3.Designed for barefoot exercise. Your shoes or your pets' paws may tear the mat.
- FREE CARRY STRAP & STORAGE BAG - No need to go buy a yoga carrying strap and bag. Easy to carry your yoga mat around with.you can carry to the gym or anywhere you want
Its class pages also document short, stackable sessions of five, 10, 15, and 20 minutes. Programs can combine yoga, HIIT, core, strength, and restorative work, making the platform more versatile than a yoga-only service while retaining yoga and mobility as its clearest strengths.
There is an important currentness issue: older Alo Moves pages described a paid membership, while the current Wellness Club positioning describes a free app. Availability and membership models can vary by country and change over time, so U.S. readers should inspect the current offer at signup rather than relying on older articles or a hard-coded monthly price.
Choose Alo if: yoga, mobility, meditation, sleep, scenic presentation, or short stackable sessions are central to your routine.
Look elsewhere if: your priority is a highly structured beginner calendar, competitive cardio motivation, or a clearly documented equipment-linked training system.
What equipment do you really need?
Many online classes can begin with no equipment beyond a device and enough room to move. Avoid buying a full home gym before you know which formats you will use. Add equipment only when it enables the classes you actually plan to take.
A sensible starter setup
- nonslip exercise mat: useful for yoga, Pilates, mobility, stretching, and floor-based strength. It is a comfort and surface-grip accessory, not a guarantee against injury.
- resistance bands for working out: a compact, relatively versatile option for strength, core, Pilates, mobility, and some upper-body work. Choose a set with clearly labeled resistance levels and inspect it for damage before use.
- adjustable dumbbells: an optional upgrade for people prioritizing progressive strength training. Check the equipment list first because many classes are bodyweight-based or call for different weights.
- Step platform or stationary bike: relevant only if you intend to take step-cardio, cycling, or bike-specific classes.
- Television setup: if your current TV does not support a platform, casting from a phone or tablet—or using a compatible streaming device for workout classes—may make follow-along sessions easier to see.
LES MILLS+ is particularly explicit about class-specific equipment such as bands, plates, barbells, steps, and stationary bikes. Apple Fitness+ also identifies required equipment in workout details. Use those lists rather than assuming that an entire platform has one universal equipment requirement.
A practical weekly plan
The platform matters less than whether it helps you complete a balanced schedule. Here is one example that can be adapted to your fitness level:
- Monday: 25–30 minutes of moderate cardio, such as walking, cycling, dance, or a low-impact cardio class.
- Tuesday: 20–30 minutes of full-body strength, using bodyweight, bands, or weights if the class calls for them.
- Wednesday: 10–20 minutes of yoga, mobility, or recovery.
- Thursday: 25–30 minutes of cardio at an effort appropriate to your ability.
- Friday: 20–30 minutes of strength covering major muscle groups.
- Saturday: an optional longer walk, cycling session, studio-style class, or enjoyable recreational activity.
- Sunday: rest or gentle mobility.
This is an example, not a medical prescription. The CDC targets are weekly activity guidelines, not a demand that every workout be intense. Walking and other daily activity can contribute to the aerobic total, and short sessions can be combined. If a chronic condition, disability, injury, pregnancy, or medication affects exercise choices, adapt the activity to your abilities and ask a qualified health professional for appropriate guidance.

Before starting a trial, verify the practical details that often determine whether an online service becomes part of your routine:
Best Value
- LIGHTWEIGHT YOGA MAT: These durable, yet extremely lightweight exercise yoga mats give you just the right amount of cushioning your joints need during any yoga or fitness routine
- STICKY NON-SLIP TEXTURE: Yoga mat features a textured sticky non-slip surface for excellent traction and superior grip and a stylish design to keep you motivated and focused
- NON-TOXIC and 6P FREE - PVC yoga mat is a healthier choice for you and the planet and free of DEHP, DBP, BBP, DINP, DIDP and DNOP (Note: For best results unroll and air out your mat for 2-3 days before use - a harmless odor may be present when unwrapped)
- FREE YOGA CLASS: Yoga mat purchase includes a free bonus downloadable yoga workout to help get you started
- DIMENSIONS: 68-Inch x 24-Inch x 4mm Thick
- Device support: Daily Burn documents browser, iOS, Android, Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire, and Chromecast access. Other services may support a different combination of web, mobile, TV, or casting platforms.
- Screen placement: A phone is adequate for many sessions, but a larger screen can make instructor demonstrations easier to follow. Keep the device where it can be seen without forcing you to turn your head during movement.
- Audio: Test volume and Bluetooth latency before a fast-paced class. If you share a home, headphones may help, but do not use a setup that prevents you from hearing safety instructions or your surroundings.
- Offline access: Confirm whether downloads are available, which devices support them, and whether downloaded classes expire. LES MILLS+ specifically documents Android and iOS downloads; other platforms should be checked individually.
- Membership tier: Free app access, paid app access, and equipment-linked access may expose different catalogs or features. Compare the exact tier rather than the service’s broadest marketing description.
- Trial cancellation: Record the renewal date and cancellation method when you start a trial. Promotional terms and prices can change.
Safety and realistic expectations
An online class can provide instruction, but it cannot see your movement the way an in-person coach can. Start below your maximum effort, use the instructor’s lower-impact modification, and increase difficulty gradually. Stop if you experience sharp pain, chest pain, faintness, unusual shortness of breath, or another concerning symptom, and seek appropriate medical help.
Do not choose a platform because it promises guaranteed weight loss, muscle gain, injury prevention, calorie burn, or medical improvement. Results depend on the activity, consistency, nutrition, sleep, starting point, health status, and many other factors. The most defensible selection criterion is adherence: choose the service whose classes, equipment demands, technology, and coaching style make regular activity realistic for you.
A simple decision guide
- Want free workouts first? Start with Nike Training Club.
- Want someone to tell you what to do next? Compare Daily Burn’s programs and daily format.
- Already use Apple devices? Test Apple Fitness+ with short sessions and mixed modalities.
- Need instructor personality and cardio community? Evaluate Peloton’s current app tier and equipment requirements.
- Miss the energy of a gym studio? Try LES MILLS+ and check the equipment list for each format.
- Prioritize yoga, mobility, meditation, or wellness? Inspect Alo’s current free Wellness Club offer, especially if older Alo Moves pricing appears elsewhere.
Use a free tier or trial to answer practical questions: Do you enjoy the instructors? Can you find a class at the time you usually exercise? Do you need equipment? Is the app reliable on your preferred screen? Can you follow the modifications? Those answers are more meaningful than a generic “best” label.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best online fitness class for a complete beginner?
Daily Burn is the strongest fit when you want structured programs, daily direction, broad class types, and documented modifications. Nike Training Club is a better first choice if avoiding a subscription is the priority.
What is the best free online workout app?
Nike Training Club is the clearest free recommendation in this comparison. It offers trainer-led workouts, programs, and guidance across formats such as HIIT, yoga, and bodyweight training. Its catalog and access terms can change, so verify the current app listing.
Do I need equipment for online fitness classes?
No. Many workouts are bodyweight-based. A mat is useful for floor work, while resistance bands are a versatile optional addition. Dumbbells, a step, barbell, plates, or a stationary bike are needed only for classes that specifically call for them.
Is Apple Fitness+ only for Apple Watch owners?
Do not assume that an Apple Watch is mandatory for every use case. Apple-device compatibility and tracking requirements vary by device, region, and feature, so check Apple’s current requirements for the exact setup you plan to use.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Are online fitness classes enough to meet activity guidelines?
They can contribute to a balanced routine, but the answer depends on the classes you select and your total weekly activity. CDC guidance recommends at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity, or 75 minutes of vigorous activity, plus muscle-strengthening activity on at least two days each week for adults.
The Bottom Line
Choose the platform that makes your preferred workout style easiest to repeat: Nike Training Club for a free start, Daily Burn for a guided beginner path, Apple Fitness+ for Apple users and short sessions, Peloton for community-driven cardio, LES MILLS+ for studio-style formats, and Alo for yoga and wellness. Try the free option or current trial first, then verify pricing, membership tier, device support, offline access, and equipment requirements before committing.
