IDrive Personal is the clearest researched fit if you want one online-backup account for several computers and mobile devices. Its plan is listed for one user and multiple computers, and IDrive says one account supports PC, Mac, Linux, iOS, and Android devices. Whether it is the best value for your household depends on how much data you need to protect and how many devices you have.
Can one online-backup account cover multiple computers and devices?
Yes, but the answer depends on the provider and plan. IDrive says one account can back up multiple PCs, Macs, and Linux computers, as well as data from iOS and Android devices. It says each device’s folders are kept separate to avoid overlap. IDrive’s device support page describes this coverage.
That does not necessarily mean a phone receives a complete device-image backup. IDrive’s mobile-app description names contacts, photos, videos, calendar events, and more; check the app and plan details to confirm which data types are protected on your specific device.

How the leading options compare
| Service | What the cited plan or page establishes | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| IDrive Personal | One user, multiple computers; IDrive support describes PC, Mac, Linux, iOS, and Android coverage. Personal storage tiers listed on its pricing page range from 5 TB to 100 TB. IDrive pricing; IDrive device support | Current price and promotions, the storage quota that fits your data, mobile backup details, and any over-limit charges. |
| Backblaze Computer Backup | Backblaze describes automatic backup for computers and external drives. Its help page says an added computer gets a 15-day trial and then needs an additional license. Backblaze pricing; Backblaze computer-license help | The total cost for every computer, plus external-drive eligibility and the plan’s exclusions. |
| Carbonite personal | The personal plans shown on Carbonite’s page cover one computer; some listed tiers include external-drive support. Carbonite personal plans | Whether a current product offers household multi-computer coverage, and the exact plan exclusions. |
These are not interchangeable offers: IDrive’s listed Personal plan is account-based across multiple computers, while Backblaze’s cited help page describes a separate license for each additional computer. Carbonite’s cited personal page does not establish a multi-computer household option. Compare the full household bill and device mix rather than choosing by a starting price or storage headline.

How to choose a plan for your household
- List the devices and data types. Count computers and phones or tablets, and note which files or mobile data you expect to recover. Confirm operating-system and mobile-data coverage in the provider’s current documentation.
- Estimate the data that needs protection. Include the files on every computer and any external drives. Compare that total with the plan’s storage cap; IDrive’s pricing page lists Personal tiers from 5 TB to 100 TB and notes that over-limit charges may apply.
- Calculate total cost across all computers. For IDrive, check the selected Personal storage tier and current price. For Backblaze, include the additional license needed for each extra computer after its 15-day trial. Do not assume that one subscription covers every device just because an account can be used on multiple devices.
- Check external-drive rules. IDrive says it supports mapped, network, and external hard drives. Backblaze describes computer and external-drive backup. Confirm which drives qualify, whether they must be connected on a schedule, and any plan-specific exclusions before relying on the feature. IDrive backup features; Backblaze pricing
- Review recovery and retention. Check how to restore files, how deleted files are handled, and whether you can recover through a browser or desktop app. IDrive’s feature page says deleted files can be recovered from Trash within 30 days and that archived data is not removed unless manually deleted or archive cleanup is run. These are IDrive’s stated terms; confirm the current details for your plan.
Online backup is not the same as file sync
Backup is intended to help you recover protected data after loss or damage. Sync keeps selected files available across linked devices and may propagate edits or deletions among them. A synchronized folder is useful for access and collaboration, but it should not be treated as your only recovery copy. Cloudwards’ comparison of online backup and cloud storage explains the distinction.
For especially important files, use layered protection: an online backup plus a separate local copy, such as a portable external hard drive. A local drive can help when you need a nearby copy; confirm your chosen service’s external-drive rules if you also want it included in online backup.

IDrive is the most directly documented match here for a household with several computers and mobile devices under one user account. Its storage is capped by the tier you select, so check that the quota covers all protected data and review the current price and over-limit terms.
