There is no single agreed best noise-cancelling headphone for 2026. Bose’s QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) lead Tom’s Guide’s current ANC-focused guide, while What Hi-Fi? names Sony’s WH-1000XM6 its best overall. RTINGS’ comparison also favors the XM6 for measured isolation, battery life and microphone performance against the XM5 and Bose QuietComfort Ultra, though it says real-world differences among leading models can be small. The right choice depends on whether you value noise blocking, comfort, calls, battery life, price or device ecosystem most.
This guide draws on published reviews and comparisons; it does not claim that the writer personally tested these headphones. Prices and availability change, so treat price bands as guide-era observations rather than live quotes.
Which noise-cancelling headphones should you buy?
| Priority | Model to consider | Why it stands out | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| ANC-focused all-rounder | Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) | Tom’s Guide names this generation its best overall and reports up to 30 hours of rated battery life, or 24 hours with Immersive Audio. | Check that a listing is for Gen 2; the first-generation model has different specifications. |
| Balanced flagship and calls | Sony WH-1000XM6 | What Hi-Fi? selects it as best overall; TechRadar highlights call quality, and RTINGS favors it in its comparison with the XM5 and Bose QuietComfort Ultra. | Top-pick judgments differ by publication and evaluation criteria. |
| Lower-cost over-ear option | JLab JBuds Lux ANC | Tom’s Guide positions it below $100 and reports rated battery life of 40 hours with ANC on, 70 hours with ANC off. | That price tier is guide-era, not a guaranteed current price; no carry case is included, according to Tom’s Guide. |
| Long rated battery life | Marshall Monitor III | Tom’s Guide reports 70 hours with ANC on and 100 hours with ANC off, and highlights comfort and sound. | Tom’s Guide says its ANC does not match its top pick. |
| Apple ecosystem | Apple AirPods Max 2 | What Hi-Fi? finds improved noise reduction compared with the original and describes its ANC as natural. | That review says Sony and Bose flagships block noise more effectively. |
| Sonos TV-audio features | Sonos Ace Ultra | Tom’s Guide highlights Wi-Fi TV-audio swapping, improved ANC and 35 hours of rated ANC-on battery life. | Tom’s Guide describes the price as steep and the value as dependent on using the Sonos ecosystem. Confirm the exact model name and current availability. |
Two further lower-price candidates appear in TechRadar’s guide: Bose QuietComfort Headphones, listed below $250, and 1More SonoFlow Pro HQ51, listed below $100. These are guide-era price bands, not guaranteed current prices. TechRadar’s overall pick is the original Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones; its guide reports 24 hours of battery life for that reviewed model. Do not transfer that figure to the second-generation version.
How to choose between Bose and Sony flagships
Use-case fit matters more than treating any one outlet’s winner as a universal result. Tom’s Guide and TechRadar favor Bose QuietComfort Ultra models in their guides, while What Hi-Fi? chooses the Sony WH-1000XM6. RTINGS reports that the XM6 leads its comparison with the XM5 and Bose QuietComfort Ultra on isolation, battery life and microphone performance, but also cautions that the day-to-day gap between highly capable headphones may be small.
#1 Best Overall
- Hybrid Active Noise Cancelling: 2 internal and 2 external mics work in tandem to detect external noise and effectively reduce up to 90% of it, no matter in trains or offices.
- Immerse Yourself in Detailed Audio: The noise cancelling headphones have oversized 40mm dynamic drivers that produce detailed sound and thumping beats with BassUp technology for your every travel, commuting and gaming. Compatible with Hi-Res certified audio via the AUX cable for more detail.
- 40-Hour Long Battery Life and Fast Charging: With 40 hours of battery life with ANC on and 60 hours in normal mode, you can commute in peace with your Bluetooth headphones without thinking about recharging. Fast charge for 5 mins to get an extra 4 hours of music listening for daily users.
- Dual-Connections: Connect to two devices simultaneously with Bluetooth 5.0 and instantly switch between them. Whether you're working on your laptop, or need to take a phone call, audio from your Bluetooth headphones will automatically play from the device you need to hear from.
- App for EQ Customization: Download the soundcore app to tailor your sound using the customizable EQ, with 22 presets, or adjust it yourself. You can also switch between 3 modes: ANC, Normal, and Transparency, and relax with white noise.
- Choose by noise control: If reducing noise is your main goal, compare the exact Bose generation with the XM6. Published verdicts differ, so consider whether a small measured advantage is worth any price or fit difference for you.
- Choose by calls: TechRadar singles out the XM6 for call quality among standard ANC headphones, and RTINGS reports an XM6 advantage in microphone performance in its comparison.
- Choose by battery: Compare figures only when the model generation and ANC or audio mode match. Bose Gen 2’s 30-hour rating falls to 24 hours with Immersive Audio, while Tom’s Guide reports 24 hours for the original Bose model it reviewed.
- Choose by fit: Ear-cup seal and long-session comfort are personal. Try the headphones with your usual glasses if possible; a poor seal can undermine isolation regardless of a review’s overall score.
What to check before buying
Noise type and everyday use
Noise cancellation and passive isolation are not the same. When comparing reviews, look for performance against both low-frequency sounds such as transport rumble and higher-frequency sounds such as speech. No single score necessarily predicts how distracting your particular commute, office or home will feel.
Comfort, seal and portability
Check the fit for longer listening sessions, especially if you wear glasses. Consider whether the headphones fold, how bulky their case is, and whether a case is included. Tom’s Guide notes that the JLab JBuds Lux ANC does not include a carry case.
Rank #2
- Block the World, Keep the Music: Four built-in mics work together to filter out background noise — whether you're in a packed office, on a crowded commute, or moving through a busy street — so every beat comes through clean and clear. (Not available in AUX-in mode.)
- Two Ways to Hear More: BassUp technology delivers deep, punchy bass and crisp highs in wireless mode — then step it up further by plugging in the included AUX cable to unlock Hi‑Res certified audio for studio-level clarity.
- 40 Hours. 5-Minute Top-Up: With ANC on, a single charge keeps you listening through days of commutes and long-haul flights. Running low? Just 5 minutes plugged in gives you 4 more hours — so you're never stuck waiting.
- Two Devices, Zero Hassle: Stay connected to your laptop and phone at the same time. Audio switches automatically to whichever device needs you — so a call never interrupts your flow, and getting back to your playlist is just as easy. Designed for commuters and remote workers who move smoothly between work and personal listening throughout the day.
- Your Sound, Your Rules: The soundcore app puts everything at your fingertips — dials your ideal EQ with presets or build your own, flip between ANC, Normal, and Transparency modes on the fly, or wind down with built-in white noise. One app, total control.
Battery ratings and modes
Battery figures are rated specifications, not guarantees for every listening pattern. ANC, spatial or immersive audio, volume and other features can change runtime. Keep the mode attached to the number: Tom’s Guide gives the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) a 30-hour rating, reduced to 24 hours with Immersive Audio; it reports 40 hours with ANC on and 70 hours with ANC off for the JLab JBuds Lux ANC.
Sound, calls and device compatibility
Sound preference is subjective, so look for equalizer controls if you want to adjust the default tuning. For frequent calls, seek tests of microphone performance in noisy surroundings rather than relying on music reviews alone. Check that the headphone’s controls and wireless features work with your phone, computer or television; ecosystem features can be useful without implying better ANC.

Price and exact model
Confirm the full model name and generation before checkout. This matters particularly for Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones, since the original and 2nd Gen are distinct products with different reported battery figures. The sub-$100 and sub-$250 tiers in Tom’s Guide and TechRadar are observations from their guides, not live offers.

Sony announced the WH-1000XM6 on May 16, 2025. The company attributes its noise-cancelling operation to an advanced processor and adaptive microphone system, saying noise cancelling is optimized in real time. That is Sony’s product description, not an independent test result; comparisons from What Hi-Fi?, TechRadar and RTINGS provide separate review judgments.
