There is no single best NBN provider. In CHOICE’s September 2026 Best Brand ranking, Aussie Broadband and Superloop tied at 85%. Superloop had the highest speed score, and Aussie Broadband had the highest overall NBN customer satisfaction score. Which one is “top” for your household depends on whether measured speed or customer experience matters more, and on what is actually available at your address.
How CHOICE’s Best Brand ranking is built
CHOICE’s Best Brand title blends two equally weighted measures, each counting for 50%. The first is a total speed score built from Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) broadband performance data. The second is CHOICE’s own NBN overall satisfaction survey. CHOICE reports both components separately, which is why the headline tie hides a real difference between the two leaders.
Three details limit how far the ranking can be pushed:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Scores are rounded before ranks are assigned. Because the published components are rounded and the blend uses unrounded values, averaging the figures shown can land a point away from the published Best Brand score. Averaging Aussie Broadband’s displayed 91% and 80% gives 85.5, while the published figure is 85%.
- Speed is compared within like-for-like groups. CHOICE compares products by plan speed tier, access technology and brand, so a speed score describes a provider’s measured performance in that comparison, not every plan it sells.
- Thin data leaves providers out. Exetel was not ranked because CHOICE did not have enough data for both inputs.
Provider scores from CHOICE’s September 2026 update
CHOICE’s page was last updated on 22 September 2026. The table below uses its published figures.

| Provider | Best Brand (blended) | Speed score | Overall NBN satisfaction |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aussie Broadband | 85% | 91% | 80% |
| Superloop | 85% | 97% | 72% |
| Dodo and iPrimus | 84% | 96% | 72% |
| Telstra | 84% | 94% | 75% |
| TPG | 84% | 94% | 74% |
| iiNet | 83% | 93% | 73% |
| Optus | 83% | 95% | 71% |
| Exetel | Not ranked | Not stated (insufficient data) | Not stated (insufficient data) |
The two leaders pull in opposite directions. Superloop’s 97% speed score is the highest in the table, but its satisfaction score of 72% sits in the lower group. Aussie Broadband is the reverse: it has the strongest satisfaction score at 80%, but its speed score of 91% is the lowest among the ranked providers.
Which leader fits which priority
If measured speed matters most
Superloop is the stronger fit on CHOICE’s measure, followed closely by Dodo and iPrimus and Optus. A high speed score shows how the provider performed in ACCC testing. It does not guarantee the same result at your address or on your evening schedule.
Rank #2
- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
If customer experience matters most
Aussie Broadband leads the satisfaction measure at 80%, ahead of Telstra at 75% and TPG at 74%. Satisfaction reflects what customers reported in CHOICE’s survey, so it captures service experience rather than line performance.
If you are choosing on price
These sources do not establish which provider is cheapest. Current plan prices and address-specific eligibility were not confirmed, and promotional prices change often. Compare the plans you can actually get at your address, using the checklist below.
Rank #3
- Next-Gen Gigabit Wi-Fi 6 Speeds: 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz bands ensure smoother streaming and faster downloads; support VPN server and VPN client¹
- A More Responsive Experience: Enjoy smooth gaming, video streaming, and live feeds simultaneously. OFDMA makes your Wi-Fi stronger by allowing multiple clients to share one band at the same time, cutting latency and jitter.²
- Expanded Wi-Fi Coverage: 4 high-gain external antennas and Beamforming technology combine to extend strong, reliable, Wi-Fi throughout your home.
- Improved Battery Life: Target Wake Time helps your devices to communicate efficiently while consuming less power.
- Improved Cooling Design: No heat ups, no throttles. A larger heat sink and redefined case design cools the WiFi 6 system and enables your network to stay at top speeds in more versatile environments.
How much to trust the speed figures
The most recent national benchmark comes from the ACCC’s Measuring Broadband Australia program. The ACCC released Report 33 on 17 June 2026 and describes it as the program’s final performance report, so there will be no newer edition from that program. The program tested volunteer households at different times of day.
The headline national result is that fixed-line NBN households received, on average, 99.4% of their plan download speed during the peak evening period, according to the ACCC’s 2026 broadband performance data. This is an average across fixed-line households. It is not a promise for any single address or provider, and it says nothing about upload speed.
Rank #4
- NIGHTHAWK WIFI 6 ROUTER FOR YOUR WHOLE HOME: Delivers fast, reliable WiFi across every room of your apartment or small home for streaming, gaming, video calls, and smart home devices, all running at the same time without slowing each other down.
- WORKS WITH YOUR EXISTING INTERNET SERVICE: Pairs with your existing modem or gateway via ethernet. Compatible with most cable, fiber, DSL, and satellite providers. Some gateways and modem router combos may require bridge mode. No coax needed.
- SET UP AND MANAGE YOUR NETWORK WITH THE NIGHTHAWK APP: Download the free Nighthawk app on iOS or Android for guided setup. Manage WiFi, run speed tests, pause devices, and set up guest networks from anywhere. Active internet required.
- READY FOR THE DEVICES YOU ALREADY OWN: Your phones, laptops, and TVs work right out of the box. WiFi 6 delivers speeds up to 1.8 Gbps across 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Backward compatible with WiFi 5 and earlier.
- COVERAGE IN EVERY ROOM: Covers up to 1,500 sq. ft. for up to 20 connected devices. Walls, floors, and interference can reduce range. Larger or multi-story homes may benefit from a NETGEAR Orbi mesh WiFi system.
Check your address before comparing speeds
A provider’s headline speed matters only if your premises can support it. The ACCC says copper-based connections and fixed wireless are common causes of maximum-speed limits, and providers should disclose known limitations.
Recommended Free Tools
- Check availability at your address. Use each provider’s own address availability check before comparing plans, since eligible speed tiers vary by premises.
- Note the access technology. Record whether the connection is fibre-based, copper-based or fixed wireless, because this determines what speeds are realistic.
- Compare advertised typical speeds for 7 pm to 11 pm. The ACCC says providers should advertise typical NBN speeds during this busy period, so use that figure in place of a maximum speed.
- Choose a tier based on household demand. Use the plan-label guidance below.
- Add up the full cost. Work out the price once any introductory offer ends, plus setup charges and equipment, for the period you expect to stay.
Matching a speed tier to household use
The ACCC’s plan labels associate minimum speeds with common activities. These are label guidance, not guarantees of what every application needs.

Canstar’s consumer guidance says shoppers most often prioritise reliable and consistent service, download and upload speed, customer service and technical support, easy setup, and a modem or router that is included or easy to use. Use those as a checklist for ranking your own priorities.
Check support, equipment and what is included
Compare the following before deciding between two close providers:
- Customer support channels and how installation is handled
- Whether a modem or router is included, or charged separately
- Whether any bundle is worth paying for, and whether you would use it
- Regular price after introductory offers end, not only the first-period price
Equipment does not change a provider’s network performance. A new router can improve coverage inside your home, but it will not alter the speed the provider delivers to your premises.
