There is no single best music streaming service for everyone. Spotify is a strong starting point for playlists and everyday convenience; Apple Music suits Apple-device households and listeners interested in lossless and Spatial Audio; and TIDAL stands out for listeners seeking high-resolution FLAC. The right choice depends on what you listen to, how you discover music, the devices and audio equipment you use, and the price in your country.
What is the best music streaming service?
Start with your listening habits, not a headline ranking. Check whether your favorite artists are available, whether the service’s recommendations work for you, and whether its audio quality and controls match your setup. Then compare device support, extras such as video or downloads to keep, and the current local price.

- Choose Spotify if playlists, discovery, and broad everyday convenience are your priorities. Louder describes its highest quality in the reviewed 2026 guide as CD-quality 16-bit/44.1 kHz lossless; that is a reported current ceiling, not a permanent guarantee. Louder’s 2026 guide
- Consider Apple Music if you use Apple devices or want to compare lossless and Spatial Audio options. Which? describes broad support across Apple devices as well as Android and desktop, while What Hi-Fi outlines its lossless formats and offers reviewer sound impressions. What Hi-Fi’s comparison
- Consider TIDAL if high-resolution FLAC is a priority and your playback equipment can take advantage of it. Its Max tier supports up to 24-bit/192 kHz, subject to device and connection considerations. TIDAL’s sound-quality guidance
- Compare Amazon Music Unlimited if you are a Prime member or use Alexa. TechRadar reports lossless FLAC up to 24-bit/192 kHz and says a price increase in early 2025 narrowed its value advantage; check the current price and any local Prime discount. TechRadar’s review
- Choose YouTube Music or YouTube Premium if music videos, live material, and YouTube’s broader ad-free bundle matter more to you than hi-res audio. Which? says YouTube Premium includes YouTube Music Premium, while Premium Lite does not make YouTube Music ad-free; confirm bundle terms where you live. Which?’s UK comparison
- Compare Qobuz if you want high-resolution streaming and the option to purchase album downloads. Louder describes streaming up to 192 kHz; compare the current plan and device support against TIDAL, Apple Music, and Amazon. Louder’s 2026 guide
- Consider Deezer if features such as Flow recommendations, SongCatcher, and synchronized lyrics appeal to you. Which? also notes broad platform support. Which?’s UK comparison
- Consider SoundCloud if independent-artist material is important alongside mainstream music. Which? describes SoundCloud Go and Go+ as offering a mix of both, with differences between plans. Which?’s UK comparison
Spotify vs Apple Music: which is better?
Spotify is the better fit to shortlist when playlists, discovery, and ease of everyday use are central. Apple Music is a natural option for Apple-device households and listeners interested in lossless and Spatial Audio. Neither choice is automatically better for everyone: compare your preferred recommendations, the devices you use, and the audio features you will actually play.
For sound formats, What Hi-Fi’s 2026 comparison lists Apple Music Lossless up to 24-bit/48 kHz and Hi-Res Lossless up to 192 kHz. Louder’s 2026 guide reports Spotify’s highest quality as 16-bit/44.1 kHz lossless. These are descriptions in those comparisons, not a guarantee that every track, device, or listening session will use the maximum format.

Which music streaming service has the best sound quality?
There is no universal sound-quality winner. A service’s highest supported format is only one part of playback: the track’s available version, your device, connection, DAC, and headphones or speakers all matter. Reviewers’ listening descriptions are judgments, not a result that applies to every listener or setup.
| Service | Format information in the cited 2026 sources | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Spotify | CD-quality 16-bit/44.1 kHz lossless ceiling reported by Louder | This is the reported ceiling in that guide, not a timeless or universal guarantee. |
| Apple Music | Lossless up to 24-bit/48 kHz; Hi-Res Lossless up to 192 kHz, according to What Hi-Fi | Actual playback depends on the track and listening setup. |
| TIDAL | Max up to 24-bit/192 kHz; High up to 16-bit/44.1 kHz; Low up to 320 kbps, according to TIDAL | Check device DAC support; TIDAL recommends wired or Wi-Fi listening for the full HiRes FLAC experience. |
| Amazon Music Unlimited | Lossless FLAC up to 24-bit/192 kHz, according to TechRadar | Confirm the current plan and playback support for your devices. |
| Qobuz | CD-quality and high-resolution streaming up to 192 kHz, according to Louder | Also offers album purchases; compare the plan and device fit. |
| YouTube Music | Hi-res audio not offered, according to the reviewed comparisons | Its appeal may instead be videos, live material, and YouTube bundle value. |
What is the best streaming service for hi-res audio?
TIDAL, Apple Music, Amazon Music Unlimited, and Qobuz are reasonable services to compare if hi-res playback is your goal. TIDAL’s official guidance lists Max at up to 24-bit/192 kHz, High at up to 16-bit/44.1 kHz, and Low at up to 320 kbps. It advises listeners to check that their device’s digital-to-analog converter (DAC) supports lossless 24-bit/192 kHz and recommends wired or Wi-Fi listening for the full HiRes FLAC experience. Read TIDAL’s sound-quality guidance.

A compatible USB-C headphone DAC may be useful for wired listening, but it is not a subscription requirement. Check that the DAC connector works with your phone or computer and that it is compatible with your headphones. A high-resolution label by itself does not establish that a track is available in that format or that your current playback chain can reproduce it.

Check the exact devices you use
Do not assume that support for a phone app means every service feature works on your car, smart speaker, watch, TV, desktop, or casting setup. Which? lists Apple Music on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TV, Mac, HomePod, Android, and desktop/iTunes; it also notes Apple Podcasts is separate. Android Central’s 2026 service table shows broad Android app and Android Auto support among the listed services, with differences in Wear OS, Android TV, and desktop support. Check the specific device and feature that matter to you.

Separate music from the bundle
Some services are attractive because of more than music. YouTube Premium includes YouTube Music Premium according to Which?, but YouTube Premium Lite does not make YouTube Music ad-free. Amazon Music Prime is included with Prime in the UK, but Which? says it has shuffle-oriented limitations outside certain playlists; Unlimited adds on-demand listening and offline features. Bundle details and availability can vary by market, so verify the local terms.
Compare listening controls
Before choosing a free, bundled, or paid tier, check whether it allows on-demand playback, how skips work, and whether you can download music for offline listening. Those controls can matter more in daily use than a small difference in maximum audio resolution.

What do music streaming services cost?
Prices vary by country, plan, and billing arrangement, and can change. As a dated reference, Which? reported these UK monthly individual prices in April 2026:
Recommended Free Tools
| Service and plan | UK monthly price reported April 2026 |
|---|---|
| Apple Music individual | £10.99 |
| Spotify individual | £12.99 |
| TIDAL individual | £10.99 |
| Amazon Music Unlimited, Prime member | £11.99 |
| Amazon Music Unlimited, non-Prime member | £12.99 |
These are UK figures reported by Which? in April 2026, not current global price guarantees. Check the service’s own checkout for your country, plan, and billing period before subscribing. For Amazon in particular, verify whether the Prime-member price applies where you live.
