If you want a Switch game that feels most like Nintendo Switch Sports, start with MotionPlay Sports for camera-tracked bowling and table tennis, or Mario Tennis Aces if tennis is the main attraction. For exercise rather than a party sports game, consider Ring Fit Adventure. If you are open to a separate system, Nex Playground offers camera-controlled games; the closest broad match on Switch 2, Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, is not scheduled to launch until October 22, 2026.

What makes a game similar to Nintendo Switch Sports?

Nintendo Switch Sports is a motion-control party game and the modern continuation of Wii Sports. Nintendo’s 2022 game includes six sports: soccer, volleyball, bowling, tennis, badminton and Chambara. Its release date was April 29, 2022. Nintendo’s product page is the baseline for the comparisons below.

“Similar” can mean different things: swinging a Joy-Con, moving your body in front of a camera, playing a specific sport, or getting active through a game. The alternatives here preserve different parts of the experience, so choose by platform and play style rather than assuming they are interchangeable.

Best current options for Switch players

Game Platform and control Best fit What it offers
MotionPlay Sports Switch game controlled through a compatible smartphone camera and companion app Camera-based movement for bowling and table tennis Two sports; bowling supports solo AI or local two-player play, and table tennis has AI difficulty settings
Mario Tennis Aces Switch; traditional controls or optional motion controls Tennis fans who want an arcade-style game Tennis-focused play rather than a multi-sport collection
Ring Fit Adventure Switch; Ring-Con-based exercise controls Active exercise and movement-based play An RPG workout, not a sports-game substitute

MotionPlay Sports: camera-controlled bowling and table tennis

MotionPlay Sports is the most direct choice if what you want to keep is motion input, but with your body tracked by a phone camera instead of a Joy-Con. Nintendo describes its free companion app as using a compatible smartphone camera to track movement and translate it into game controls. Nintendo’s tagline for the game is “YOU ARE THE CONTROLLER. JUST MOVE.” See Nintendo’s MotionPlay Sports page for its current details.

Nintendo says no wearable controllers or additional accessories are needed, but the phone and companion app are required. Confirm that your smartphone is compatible before choosing this option.

Mario Tennis Aces: tennis with motion controls as an option

If tennis is the sport you want, Mario Tennis Aces offers arcade-style matches and lets players choose between traditional and motion controls. Motion play is optional, not the whole game’s control model. It is a focused tennis title, so it does not provide the variety of a multi-sport set. Metacritic’s guide describes its play styles; its guide dates to August 2022, so check your regional store for current availability.

Nintendo Switch Sports Standard - Nintendo Switch [Digital Code]
  • Swing, kick, spike, and bowl your way to victory in 7 sports
  • Play Golf, Soccer, Volleyball, Bowling, Tennis, Badminton and Chambara (swordplay)
  • Motion controls will get you moving and help turn your real-world actions into in-game movements
  • Use the Leg Strap accessory to kick the ball in Soccer
  • Play with friends and family locally or online—in some sports, you and a friend can even team up on the same system to take on other teams online

Ring Fit Adventure: choose it for exercise, not sports variety

Ring Fit Adventure is a Switch RPG workout built around Nintendo’s Ring-Con. Its appeal is structured exercise and movement-based play, rather than recreating a pick-up-and-play sports collection. It makes sense if being active is the goal; it is not a like-for-like alternative to Switch Sports. Metacritic’s guide outlines the workout-RPG format.

Camera-controlled games beyond the Switch

Nex Playground: a separate system for camera-based play

Nex Playground is not a Switch game or an accessory for one: it is a separate camera-controlled system. A TechRadar review lists Goal Keeper among its starter games and Tennis Smash among its larger catalog. Expanded access to games uses a Play Pass subscription, so check the current library and subscription terms before buying. The review was first published in December 2025, and its pricing or access details may have changed. Read TechRadar’s Nex Playground review.

What about Nintendo Switch Sports Resort?

Nintendo Switch Sports Resort is a forthcoming Switch 2 title, not a game you can play as of October 7, 2026. Nintendo lists its release date as October 22, 2026, and says it will include 12 motion-control sports, including bowling, basketball, boxing, table tennis and golf. That makes it the announced option most likely to offer a broad sports collection, but it should not be treated as currently available. Nintendo also says online play requires both Nintendo Switch Online and an internet connection. Check Nintendo’s Switch Sports Resort page for launch and service details.
