The right Magpul grip depends first on your firearm’s pattern, then on the grip angle, profile, surface and features you want. For an AR-15/M4 setup with a more vertical angle, consider the MOE-K2; choose the MOE-K2+ if you also want rubber overmolding. For a modular grip, compare the MIAD Gen 1.1 kits. Magpul’s catalog documents features and platform categories, but does not establish a universal best grip or an independently tested ranking.
Start with your firearm’s platform
Magpul groups grips by platform, including AR15/M4, AR10/SR25/M110 and AK/AKM. A model’s presence in the catalog does not mean it fits every firearm in that family. Check the exact grip’s current manufacturer listing against your firearm before buying; do not select by appearance or by the word “AR” alone. Magpul’s grip catalog is the place to identify the product family and listed platform.
Which Magpul grip should you consider?
These are feature-based starting points, not a performance ranking: the manufacturer information describes design and fit, not comparative testing.

- MOE-K2: Consider it if you want a more vertical-angle AR15/M4 grip and compatibility with Magpul Grip Cores. Magpul describes it as optimized for short length-of-pull configurations. The MOE-K2 product information sheet identifies its intended platform and design.
- MOE-K2+: Consider it if you want the K2 format with rubber overmolding. Magpul lists a 17-degree angle, an AR15/M4 fit and a large profile, and positions it for PDWs and firearms with shorter length of pull. See the MOE-K2+ product page for its specifications and fit notes.
- MIAD Gen 1.1: Consider this catalog-listed customizable option if you want a modular grip. Magpul lists Type 1 and Type 2 kits; confirm the kit type and firearm platform in the current catalog.
- Other MOE choices: The catalog also lists MOE SL, MOE, MOE+ and MOE-K grips, as well as MOE-K2-XL. Compare their current product descriptions and compatibility rather than assuming they share the same profile or fit.
MOE-K2 vs. MOE-K2+: what changes?
The K2+ keeps the K2 family’s more vertical-angle approach but adds rubber overmolding. Magpul describes the K2 as a more vertical-angle grip for short-LOP weapons and lists Grip Core compatibility. For the K2+, the product page specifies a 17-degree angle, rubber overmolding and a large profile. Its listed specification is a product detail, not evidence that it improves accuracy or performance.
#1 Best Overall
- A polymer drop-in replacement; Easily installed without the use of specialized tools
- Uses three set screws to secure it, eliminating the need to install a roll pin with a hammer and punch and greatly reduces the chance of any damage due to improper installation
- Has an ergonomic and enlarged design to accommodate use with gloves or when in cold environments
- Fills the annoying gap at the rear of the standard guard
- All mounting hardware included; Made in the USA
In practical terms, the main documented distinction is the K2+’s overmolded surface and its specified angle. Whether its surface or profile feels preferable is a personal fit question; the available manufacturer information does not provide independent user testing or a comparative result.
Choose by angle, profile and surface
- Angle and configuration: Magpul positions the K2 family’s more vertical angle for short length-of-pull setups. Match that description to your configuration rather than treating it as a universal preference.
- Profile: The catalog includes the slimmer MOE SL and the larger-profile K2+. Hand size and preference are individual, so product descriptions cannot determine which will feel right to you.
- Surface: The K2+ has rubber overmolding; compare that with the standard surface of the model you are considering. Magpul’s claim about grip under different conditions is manufacturer language, not independently verified performance evidence.
- Customization and storage: MIAD offers a customizable route. Magpul also lists storage cores and Grip Core compatibility for specified grips. Check that a particular core is listed for the exact grip model before relying on it.
Check the fit at the receiver
Magpul notes that the MOE-K2+ may leave an aesthetic gap at the beavertail on some 7.62 NATO AR10/SR25-style rifles, depending on the rifle. The product page says the gap does not affect function. This is a specific fit caveat, not a claim about every AR10-pattern firearm; verify your receiver and the exact grip against the current product page.
Rank #2
- Internal grip core that holds an included 1/2 oz. Reusable lubrication bottle
- Comes standard with the miad Gen 1.1 grip
- Works with the MOE, moe-k2, and moeak grips
- Not Compatible with the original modular miad grip (MAG050)
- Made in USA
A quick selection checklist
- Identify the firearm’s exact platform and confirm that the selected grip is listed for it.
- Decide whether a more vertical angle suits your configuration; Magpul positions the K2 family for short length of pull.
- Compare the profile and surface you want, including the K2+ overmolding and the catalog’s slimmer MOE SL option.
- If you want modularity or storage, verify the MIAD kit type or the specific core compatibility for your chosen grip.
- Check product-specific fit notes, especially the K2+ beavertail-gap note for some 7.62 NATO AR10/SR25-style rifles.
