The best M2 MacBook Air deals on Apple’s ultraportable laptop are now refurbished or clearance offers: target about $650–$700 for a 13-inch model and $775–$850 for a 15-inch model in the U.S. in August 2026. Pay much more for an 8GB base model and a newer 16GB MacBook Air usually makes better long-term sense.

The M2 MacBook Air remains a capable, silent everyday laptop, but it is no longer the default MacBook Air recommendation. Apple has moved to newer generations, and Apple increased MacBook Air pricing in June 2026, making retailer closeouts and reputable refurbished inventory more important than Apple’s current list prices. Macworld’s current MacBook Air deal coverage also emphasizes comparing today’s prices with historical lows rather than trusting a retailer’s claimed “was” price.

Price and stock note: The prices below are U.S. price signals checked against listings surfaced around August 16–18, 2026. Retailer pages can change quickly, and some listings were limited-stock or sold out. Verify the exact configuration, seller, warranty, return policy, and checkout price before buying.

Key takeaways

  • A certified-refurbished 13-inch M2 MacBook Air around $650–$700 is the strongest low-cost buy when the listing has acceptable warranty and return coverage.
  • A 15-inch M2 Air around $775–$850 can be worthwhile for split-screen work, but prices above $900 deserve comparison with newer models.
  • The base 8GB/256GB configuration is adequate for browsing, Office work, streaming, schoolwork, and basic photo editing, but 16GB/512GB is the better long-term target.
  • Both the 2022 13-inch M2 Air and 2023 15-inch M2 Air are compatible with macOS Tahoe 26 as of the August 2026 research window.
  • The M2 Air supports only one external display up to 6K at 60Hz while using the built-in screen, which may rule it out for some office setups.

What are the best M2 MacBook Air deals right now?

The best M2 MacBook Air deals are currently concentrated in certified-refurbished, restored, and clearance inventory rather than guaranteed new retail stock. The following ranking separates the headline price from the condition and configuration that make a deal worthwhile.

#1 Best Overall

Rank Model and configuration Condition and retailer Price seen Best for Verdict
1 13-inch M2, 8GB/256GB Certified refurbished, Best Buy $674.99 Lowest-cost portable Mac Good buy if in stock and covered by satisfactory returns and warranty
2 15-inch M2, 8GB/512GB Certified refurbished, Best Buy $859.99 Large-screen value Compelling if you need the larger display; compare with newer 16GB models
3 15-inch M2, typically 8GB/256GB Restored marketplace inventory, Walmart About $774; some offers began near $759 Lower-cost 15-inch laptop Potentially good, but seller, battery, warranty, and return terms vary
4 13-inch M2, 8GB/2TB Apple Certified Refurbished $1,189 Large built-in storage with Apple-backed refurbishment Safest refurbishment route, but not a low-price deal

The Best Buy clearance and on-sale results showed a certified-refurbished 13.6-inch M2 with 8GB memory and 256GB storage at $674.99, plus a certified-refurbished 15-inch M2 with 8GB memory and 512GB storage at $859.99. Those listings are recent price signals, not a guarantee of live inventory.

The Walmart restored MacBook Air listings showed 15-inch M2 units around $774, with some offers beginning near $759. “Restored: Like New” is a marketplace condition label; it does not mean the unit meets Apple Certified Refurbished standards.

How much should you pay for an M2 MacBook Air?

A sensible M2 MacBook Air price depends on screen size, memory, storage, condition, warranty, and the price of a comparable newer Air. The thresholds below are editorial buying guidelines inferred from the recent retailer signals, not official Apple price tiers.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Price condition 13-inch M2 15-inch M2 Buying decision
Excellent certified-refurbished price Under $650 Under $800 Buy quickly if condition, warranty, and returns are strong
Good refurbished price $650–$725 $800–$900 Worth considering after checking the exact listing
Fair used or restored price $600–$700 $750–$850 Acceptable only with careful seller, battery, and return checks
Weak deal for an 8GB/256GB model Above $750 Above $900 Compare with newer MacBook Air models
Poor value Near the price of a newer 16GB MacBook Air Choose the newer generation instead

Do not treat a large “save” label as proof of value. A comparison price may refer to an old list price, an unavailable configuration, or a retailer-generated reference. Check the actual checkout price and compare the same screen size, memory, storage, condition, and warranty against newer M4 or M5 models.

What is the M2 MacBook Air?

The M2 MacBook Air is Apple’s fanless thin-and-light laptop family built around the M2 chip. Apple introduced the 13-inch model in 2022 and the 15-inch model in 2023. Both have MagSafe charging, two Thunderbolt/USB 4 ports, a 1080p camera, Touch ID, and a Liquid Retina display.

Apple’s 13-inch M2 technical specifications and 15-inch M2 technical specifications confirm the display, chip, memory, storage, weight, ports, and display-support differences. Apple’s “up to 15 hours” battery figure comes from controlled wireless-web testing and is not a guaranteed runtime for a used laptop.

Is the M2 MacBook Air still supported?

Yes. Apple lists both the 2022 13-inch M2 MacBook Air and the 2023 15-inch M2 MacBook Air as compatible with macOS Tahoe 26 during the August 2026 research window. Apple’s macOS Tahoe compatibility documentation includes Apple-silicon MacBook Air models introduced in 2020 or later.

Apple 2022 MacBook Air with Apple M2 Chip, 13-inch, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD Storage, Midnight (Renewed)
  • STRIKINGLY THIN DESIGN — The redesigned MacBook Air is more portable than ever and weighs just 2.7 pounds. It’s the incredibly capable laptop that lets you work, play or create just about anything — anywhere
  • SUPERCHARGED BY M2 — Get more done faster with a next-generation 8-core CPU, up to 10-core GPU and up to 24GB of unified memory
  • BIG, BEAUTIFUL DISPLAY — The 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display features over 500 nits of brightness, P3 wide color and support for 1 billion colors for vibrant images and incredible detail
  • ADVANCED CAMERA AND AUDIO — Look sharp and sound great with a 1080p FaceTime HD camera, three-mic array and four-speaker sound system with Spatial Audio
  • VERSATILE CONNECTIVITY — MacBook Air features a MagSafe charging port, two Thunderbolt ports and a headphone jack

Current compatibility does not guarantee a specific number of future macOS updates. A buyer should treat the M2 as a supported legacy-value purchase, not as a laptop with a guaranteed support horizon. Apple Intelligence features can also vary by macOS version, language, region, and hardware capability; compatibility with macOS does not mean every Apple Intelligence feature works identically on every M2 configuration.

For a used Mac, support is only one check. The computer must also activate normally, be removed from the previous owner’s Apple Account, and be free of school or business remote-management enrollment. Apple’s MacBook Air model-identification page identifies the 13-inch M2 as Mac14,2 and the 15-inch M2 as Mac14,15.

Which M2 MacBook Air configuration is the best deal?

The best long-term M2 configuration is 16GB of unified memory with a 512GB SSD, while 8GB/256GB is the acceptable minimum for light workloads. The cheaper configuration is suitable for browsing, Office work, streaming, schoolwork, video calls, and basic photo editing, but it is less attractive for heavy multitasking or a five-year ownership plan.

Configuration Good fit Limit Recommendation
8GB/256GB Web, documents, streaming, schoolwork, basic photo editing Less headroom for many tabs, virtual machines, video editing, and large libraries Buy only at a clearly low price
16GB/512GB Longer ownership, heavier multitasking, larger apps and files Often costs more and is less common in discounted stock Preferred target
24GB/1TB or more Specialized workloads and large local libraries Can make an older M2 too expensive relative to a newer Air Consider only when the configuration is specifically needed

Unified memory and internal SSD storage are not user-upgradeable after purchase. Apple lists 8GB, 16GB, and 24GB memory options and storage up to 2TB for the M2 Air family, so configuration selection matters before payment. A cheap 8GB model can become a false economy if adding external storage and replacing the laptop sooner outweigh the initial saving.

Should you buy the 13-inch or 15-inch M2 MacBook Air?

Choose the 13-inch M2 for maximum portability and the 15-inch M2 for more comfortable split-screen work without an external monitor. The 15-inch model weighs about 0.6 pounds more, while the 13-inch model is the better fit for commuting, travel, small desks, and buyers seeking the lowest price.

Choose the 13-inch M2 if you prioritize… Choose the 15-inch M2 if you prioritize…
Lower weight and a smaller footprint A larger workspace for documents and spreadsheets
Travel, commuting, and small desks Split-screen work without a monitor
The lowest possible purchase price A larger display for timelines, editing, or multitasking
Using an external monitor at a desk A large laptop screen without stepping up to a MacBook Pro

Neither model is a MacBook Pro replacement for sustained professional video production, demanding 3D work, or workflows that require multiple external displays. Both M2 Air models have the same one-external-display limitation: one display up to 6K at 60Hz while the built-in display remains active.

What are the differences between Apple refurbished, certified refurbished, restored, and used M2 Airs?

Refurbishment labels are not interchangeable. Apple Certified Refurbished, retailer-certified refurbished, Walmart Restored, and private used inventory can differ substantially in testing, battery standards, warranty, return rights, seller responsibility, and included accessories.

  • SILENT DESIGN — MacBook Air features a fanless design that runs completely silent, no matter the task.
Condition Main advantage Risks and checks Best for
New old stock Unused hardware from a reputable retailer Confirm model year, warranty start, return window, and exact configuration Buyers wanting unused condition at a substantial discount
Apple Certified Refurbished Apple refurbishment process, one-year limited warranty, 14-day returns, and AppleCare eligibility where offered Inventory is limited and pricing may exceed retailer-refurbished stock Buyers prioritizing the safest refurbishment route
Retailer-certified refurbished Often substantially cheaper than Apple-refurbished inventory Read the individual listing’s warranty, return terms, battery disclosure, and seller information Value-focused buyers who want a mainstream retailer
Restored marketplace stock Potentially the lowest price for a 15-inch model Seller, battery, parts, charger, cosmetic grade, warranty, and return shipping can vary Experienced buyers comfortable investigating each offer
Private used sale Can be cheapest and inspected in person Activation Lock, remote management, battery wear, counterfeit accessories, and no dependable warranty Hands-on buyers who can test the Mac before paying

Apple says its refurbished products go through a refurbishment process and include a one-year limited warranty and 14-day return policy, with AppleCare eligibility where offered. The Apple Certified Refurbished M2 listing surfaced at $1,189 for an 8GB/2TB configuration, demonstrating that Apple refurbishment is a quality benchmark rather than an automatic lowest-price option.

Best Buy’s certified-refurbished route can be cheaper, but a buyer should evaluate the specific product page rather than assume every refurbished unit has identical battery health or coverage. A Walmart “Restored: Like New” listing should likewise be treated as a seller-specific offer, not as an Apple certification.

How should you inspect a used or restored M2 MacBook Air?

Inspect the machine before the return period expires, and inspect a private-sale Mac before handing over money. A low price is not a bargain if the laptop cannot be activated, has organizational controls, or needs an immediate battery replacement.

  1. Verify the model: Open Apple menu → About This Mac and confirm the M2 chip, screen size, memory, storage, and model information match the listing. Interface wording can vary slightly by macOS release.
  2. Check Activation Lock: The seller must sign out of their Apple Account, disable Find My, erase the Mac, and allow you to begin setup. A Mac linked to another Apple Account may be unusable to the buyer.
  3. Check remote management: Reset or start setup far enough to identify any school or business remote-management enrollment. Avoid a Mac that cannot be fully released from organizational management.
  4. Check battery health: On supported macOS versions, inspect System Settings → Battery → Battery Health. Ask for maximum-capacity information and charging status, but remember that exact labels can vary.
  5. Test hardware: Check the screen, keyboard, trackpad, Touch ID, speakers, microphone, camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, headphone jack, USB-C ports, MagSafe charging, and sleep/wake behavior.
  6. Confirm accessories: Verify that the advertised charger and cable are included. A third-party adapter is not automatically disqualifying, but it should be safe and compatible.
  7. Read the condition language: “Like new” usually describes cosmetic appearance, not battery health, original parts, or Apple warranty.
  8. Keep documentation: For a private sale, obtain the serial number, seller details, purchase record if available, and a written bill of sale.

Does the M2 MacBook Air support two external monitors?

No. The M2 MacBook Air supports one external display up to 6K at 60Hz while using its built-in display. A standard USB-C dock does not remove that hardware limitation, so buyers who need two external monitors should investigate a newer Mac model or a specific display workaround before purchasing.

The M2 Air provides two Thunderbolt/USB 4 ports, MagSafe 3 charging, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Buyers who need HDMI, an SD-card reader, Ethernet, or several peripherals should budget for a compatible hub or dock. Apple documents these port and display limits in the 13-inch M2 specifications and 15-inch M2 specifications.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

When should you buy a newer M4 or M5 MacBook Air instead?

Choose a newer Air when the M2 costs roughly 70–80% of a comparable newer model, when the newer model includes 16GB memory against the M2’s 8GB, or when a longer ownership period, stronger resale value, or newer capabilities matters more than the lowest upfront price.

Recent coverage reported discounts of approximately $150 on some M5 MacBook Air configurations, while M2 inventory was increasingly appearing through refurbished and restored channels. Tom’s Guide’s M5 deal report and Tom’s Guide’s MacBook comparison coverage provide context for why an older M2 should not be evaluated in isolation. Do not assume a specific M4 or M5 price without checking the live product page.

Buy the M2 Air when… Step up to a newer Air when…
The 13-inch price is about $650–$700 refurbished The M2 price is above $750 for an 8GB/256GB 13-inch model
The 15-inch price is about $775–$850 and the large display matters The 15-inch M2 is above $900 without 16GB/512GB or unusually strong coverage
Your workload is web, documents, streaming, schoolwork, or light creative work You plan to keep the laptop for many years or run heavier multitasking and professional apps
You accept one external display and older-generation hardware You need newer display, camera, wireless, monitor, or resale capabilities
The seller provides clear condition, battery, returns, and warranty information The M2 listing has unclear battery health, seller identity, or activation status

A newer 16GB MacBook Air priced only modestly above a refurbished 8GB M2 can be the better value even when the M2 has the lower sticker price. Compare equivalent memory and storage, calculate the premium, and consider whether the newer machine’s expected support and resale advantages justify that difference.

Who should buy the M2 MacBook Air?

Buy the 13-inch M2 if you need the lightest MacBook Air, mainly perform everyday tasks, and can find a certified-refurbished unit around $650–$700 with acceptable coverage.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Buy the 15-inch M2 if the larger screen materially improves spreadsheets, split-screen work, reading, or creative timelines and the price is roughly $775–$850. A 15-inch unit around $774 can be attractive, but marketplace terms require more scrutiny than Apple’s refurbishment program.

Prefer 16GB/512GB if you expect many browser tabs, large photo libraries, virtual machines, heavier multitasking, or five or more years of ownership. Pay extra for that configuration only after comparing the price with a newer 16GB Air.

Choose Apple Certified Refurbished if warranty and return confidence are more important than the lowest price. Choose retailer-certified refurbished stock when the price advantage is substantial and the listing clearly states coverage. Treat restored marketplace and private-sale units as higher-risk bargains requiring individual inspection.

Skip the M2 when the price is close to a newer 16GB model, when the listing is sold out or misleadingly configured, when battery health is undisclosed, or when you need more than one external monitor.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How were these M2 MacBook Air deals evaluated?

The ranking considers effective checkout price, memory and storage, condition, seller identity, warranty, return policy, battery disclosure, included accessories, model year, stock status, price-history context, and the price of newer MacBook Air alternatives. A claimed discount was not treated as meaningful unless the underlying configuration and current price were clear.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the M2 MacBook Air worth buying in 2026?

The M2 MacBook Air is worth buying in 2026 when a 13-inch refurbished model costs about $650–$700 or a 15-inch model costs about $775–$850 and the condition, battery, warranty, and returns are clear. A newer 16GB MacBook Air is usually better when its price is only modestly higher.

What is a good price for a refurbished M2 MacBook Air?

A good U.S. refurbished price is approximately $650–$725 for a 13-inch M2 and $800–$900 for a 15-inch M2. Prices below $650 and $800 respectively are excellent when the listing has strong warranty and return coverage.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is 8GB RAM enough for an M2 MacBook Air?

8GB is enough for browsing, documents, streaming, schoolwork, video calls, and basic photo editing. Buyers who use many tabs, virtual machines, video-editing applications, or large photo libraries should target 16GB, because the unified memory cannot be upgraded later.

Can the M2 MacBook Air run two external monitors?

The M2 MacBook Air officially supports one external display up to 6K at 60Hz while the built-in display is active. A standard USB-C dock does not remove that hardware limitation.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: The M2 MacBook Air is a good legacy-value purchase, not a default recommendation. Buy a certified-refurbished 13-inch model around $650–$700 or a well-covered 15-inch model around $775–$850. Above those ranges, especially for 8GB/256GB hardware, compare a newer 16GB MacBook Air before paying.
