If you want a luxury electric sedan but the Lucid Air is not the right fit, start with what matters most: the 2026 Porsche Taycan for sport-sedan character, the 2026 BMW i7 for full-size flagship luxury, the Mercedes-Benz EQS for Mercedes technology and comfort, or the Audi A6 e-tron as a value-oriented alternative to investigate. The Tesla Model S is also a natural cross-shop, though the available current comparison details do not support a firm recommendation.
Prices and range below are not a like-for-like ranking: exact trims differ, and the EQS figure is measured on the WLTP cycle rather than EPA. Check the specific trim, local inventory, and current EPA figures before deciding.

The 2026 i7 is a full-size luxury alternative, with Car and Driver listing 285–301 miles of EPA-estimated range across configurations. BMW’s own technical information warns that some recently released model-year range figures may be preliminary and not EPA-certified, so confirm certification for the specific vehicle. Consider the EQS if Mercedes comfort and technology lead
Mercedes-Benz positions the EQS as its first all-electric luxury sedan and a technology pioneer. Its announced 2027 update brings 800-volt architecture and DC charging capability up to 350 kW; Mercedes says the vehicle is expected at U.S. dealerships in the second half of 2026. Those are manufacturer announcements, not independent road-test results. Investigate the A6 e-tron for value, not an assumed bargain
The Audi A6 e-tron merits a place on a value-focused shortlist: Car and Driver describes the 2025 model as targeting the Lucid Air and Model S, while Tom’s Guide calls the Sportback e-tron a value option. Keep the Model S on the cross-shop list, but verify it independently
Lucid includes Tesla’s Model S in its competitor comparisons, making it a relevant alternative to investigate. The information available here does not support a detailed, independent current ranking against the Air or the other sedans, so assess the current vehicle and ownership requirements directly rather than treating the mention as an endorsement. Use EPA figures for U.S. comparisons
The Taycan and i7 figures above are EPA-estimated miles as listed by Car and Driver, with configuration-dependent ranges. BMW separately flags that some recent model-year figures may be preliminary and not EPA-certified. Mercedes’ 925-km EQS figure is WLTP. These test cycles are not interchangeable; do not convert the EQS number and present it as an EPA result. The A6 e-tron and Model S figures are not established here in a consistent, current trim-by-trim comparison.

Check charging capability and access, not just peak power
Charging figures describe different parts of ownership. Mercedes’ announced up-to-350-kW DC capability concerns fast charging; BMW’s listed 11.5-kW maximum AC charging power for the 2026 i7 concerns AC charging. They are not directly comparable measures of charging time. Match the car to cabin and cargo needs
Before choosing on range or acceleration alone, sit in the front and rear seats, check entry and exit, and see whether the trunk or hatch opening fits what you carry. A flagship sedan’s extra scale and amenities may matter more to one household than a sportier driving character; another buyer may prefer a smaller-feeling car. The right answer depends on your passengers, luggage, and typical journeys.

Compare actual out-the-door configurations
Starting prices do not tell you what a vehicle with your chosen options will cost. Build the configuration you would actually buy, compare included equipment and dealer inventory in your area, and confirm delivery timing. Model-year availability and prices can change, particularly for the announced 2027 EQS.

A practical shortlist before you visit a dealer
- Set your priorities. Decide whether driving character, flagship comfort, value, charging access, or rear-seat and cargo practicality matters most.
- Choose exact model years and trims. Avoid comparing a 2027 manufacturer announcement with a priced 2026 listing as though both were vehicles available on the same terms.
- Verify the range basis. Record the exact EPA figure for U.S. vehicles and whether it is certified or preliminary. Keep WLTP values separate.
- Check charging for your routine. Confirm the car’s AC and DC limits, connector, and charging access at home and on routes you regularly drive.
- Price the vehicle locally. Review current inventory, options, and delivery timing with a dealer; starting prices and availability are subject to change.
- Test the cabin and drive. Bring the people and everyday items the sedan must accommodate, and assess ride, visibility, controls, and seat comfort in person.
