For U.S. viewers, the best starting shortlist of legal free live-TV streaming services is Sling Freestream, Pluto TV, Tubi, The Roku Channel, Xumo Play, Plex and Samsung TV Plus. They offer ad-supported viewing, but their channel mixes, device support, account requirements and availability differ. No one service is best for everyone, and channel lineups can change.

What to compare before choosing a free live-TV app

Free live-TV services deliver channels over the internet, usually alongside on-demand shows or movies. Before installing one, check its current lineup and confirm that it works on your device and in your location. A service’s name or availability on one TV platform does not guarantee the same access on another.

  • Channels: Look for the specific news, entertainment, sports or other channels you want; broad channel counts do not tell you whether a must-have channel is included.
  • Account requirements: Some services allow basic viewing without an account, while others may require sign-in or offer extra features to registered users.
  • Devices and geography: Check the provider’s current support and availability pages for your TV, streaming device or phone and your country.
  • Ads and on-demand viewing: Free services are commonly ad-supported. The balance of live channels and on-demand programming varies by provider.
  • Local stations: Do not assume an internet TV app includes your local broadcast affiliates.

Free live-TV services to consider

The services below form a useful U.S.-oriented shortlist, not a ranking. Current primary-source information is clearest for Sling Freestream, Xumo Play and Plex; confirm details directly with the other providers before choosing.

Does free mean no account or no ads?

Not necessarily. “Free” describes the cost of access, not a universal sign-in policy or an ad-free experience. Sling says Freestream is ad-supported and can be watched without logging in; signing in is optional and enables personalization features. Policies can differ across services, so check the provider’s current terms and app prompts.

We will provide professional service and a satisfactory solution for you.

Can these services replace local broadcast channels?

Not reliably. Streaming apps deliver programming through an internet connection; an antenna receives over-the-air signals from local broadcast stations. Whether an antenna can receive a particular station depends on your location, distance from the broadcast tower, terrain and obstacles such as buildings or trees. Sling’s antenna FAQ explains these reception factors.

An antenna is an optional alternative for viewers seeking local broadcasts, not a requirement for using free streaming apps. In the specific setup covered by Sling’s FAQ, AirTV adapters are needed to add antenna-received local channels to Sling’s guide. Check reception and equipment compatibility before buying an antenna or related hardware; no setup can guarantee reception of a particular station.

How to choose the right service

  1. Write down the channels or types of programming you care about. Compare those against each provider’s current lineup rather than choosing by headline channel counts.
  2. Check your device. Use the provider’s official compatibility page or app store listing for your exact TV, streaming player or mobile device.
  3. Confirm availability where you live. Xumo’s published territory limits show why a service’s availability should not be assumed from another country or device.
  4. Decide whether you want to create an account. For Sling Freestream, an account is optional for viewing, while some convenience and parental-control features require signing in.
  5. Address local stations separately. If local broadcast reception is the priority, check antenna reception at your address instead of assuming a streaming channel guide includes local affiliates.

For legal access, start with each service’s official website or app. The fact that a stream appears on an unrelated third-party site does not establish that it is authorized.
