TechRadar reported on October 1, 2026, that HP US listed a 16-inch HP OmniBook 3 with an Intel Core 5 315, 8GB of RAM, and a 256GB SSD for $449.99, compared with a stated prior price of $899.99. That is a reported $450 discount—not proof of the laptop’s usual market value, and not a guarantee the offer is still live. Check HP’s current listing for the price, exact configuration, and stock before buying.
What the reported HP OmniBook 3 deal includes
The October 1 deal report describes a 16-inch OmniBook 3 with an Intel Core 5 315 processor, 8GB of RAM, a 256GB SSD, a 2K IPS display, Windows 11 Home, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 6. The reported price was $449.99 at HP US, against a stated $899.99 prior price. The $450 difference is the retailer discount as reported, not an independently established typical selling price.
Product-family listings can include multiple configurations. Before checkout, confirm that HP’s live page shows the Intel Core 5 315 SKU and the advertised memory, storage, display, and wireless features; also check current stock and any shipping or tax costs. The report does not establish whether the promotion remains available.
Is the 8GB configuration enough for everyday work?
For web browsing, writing, spreadsheets, streaming, and video calls, this configuration has the basic ingredients of an everyday Windows laptop: an SSD, a 16-inch high-resolution display, and 8GB of memory. The processor name alone is not enough to predict how fast it will feel, and no independently verified performance test of this exact configuration is established here.

The integrated HP True Vision 720p HD camera with dual-array digital microphones ensures clear communication for Zoom or Teams.

- [Vibrant HD Display & Essential Ports] Features a 14-inch diagonal HD (1366 x 768) micro-edge display with anti-glare coating, reducing distracting reflections in bright light. Includes essential ports for all your peripherals: 1x USB Type-C, 2x USB Type-A, 1x HDMI 1.4b, and a Headphone/Microphone combo jack.
- [Secure & Modern Windows 11] Experience the most secure Windows ever built with Windows 11 Home in S mode. Designed for fast boot-ups and added protection against phishing and malware, it provides a streamlined interface that's easy to navigate for users of all ages. Compatible with Microsoft 365 and popular educational software.
The key limitation is memory: TechRadar says the 8GB is soldered and cannot be upgraded. That matters if your work routinely involves many browser tabs, a video call, and several apps open together. If you expect that kind of multitasking, look for a 16GB configuration if one fits your budget rather than relying on a later RAM upgrade. RTINGS’ comments about sluggish multitasking concern a separate 14-inch OmniBook 3 configuration, not this 16-inch Intel model.
A 256GB SSD can suit a mostly online workflow, but leaves less room for large applications, games, and local photo or video libraries than a larger drive. Check whether the exact model permits storage upgrades; do not assume that it does.

How it compares with other sub-$500 options
There is no single universal “best under $500” pick. RTINGS’ September 28 guide names the HP OmniBook 3 14 (2025) as its top laptop under $500 and the ASUS Chromebook CX15 (2026) as its top Chromebook in the category. Those are different products from the 16-inch Intel OmniBook 3 deal: the RTINGS HP is a 14-inch Ryzen model, while the ASUS runs ChromeOS.
| Option | What the cited source establishes | Best fit to consider |
|---|---|---|
| HP OmniBook 3 16, Intel Core 5 315 | TechRadar reported $449.99 at HP US on October 1, 2026; 8GB soldered RAM and 256GB SSD. | Consider if you want Windows, a larger screen, and light everyday use; verify the current HP listing and exact SKU. |
| HP OmniBook 3 14 (2025) | RTINGS names this separate Ryzen configuration its top under-$500 laptop in its September 28 guide. The cited material does not establish a current price for it. | Compare it as a distinct model, not as a test or review of the 16-inch Intel deal. |
| ASUS Chromebook CX15 (2026) | RTINGS names it its top Chromebook in the under-$500 category. The cited material does not establish a current price or configuration. | Consider if browser-based services and Android apps meet your needs; check whether your required desktop software works on ChromeOS. |
| HP OmniBook 3 16, Snapdragon X | TechRadar reported $504.90 at Walmart for a different 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD configuration. | Relevant as a higher-memory comparison, but the reported price was above $500 and it is not the Intel Core 5 315 deal. |
For broad everyday productivity, PCWorld’s general buying guidance is to target at least 8GB of RAM, a 1080p display, and SSD storage. Those are baseline comparison points, not a guarantee of performance. Its guidance also cautions that sub-$500 laptops are generally not ideal for demanding workloads such as intensive gaming, editing, or 3D work.

What to verify before you buy
- Live deal and seller: Confirm the offer appears on HP US, the retailer page names the exact Core 5 315 configuration, and the item is in stock. Treat the stated $899.99 reference price as the deal report’s comparison figure, not a verified normal street price.
- Memory: This reported SKU has 8GB soldered RAM. If you need more headroom for heavy multitasking, compare a 16GB model and confirm whether its memory is upgradeable.
- Storage: Check the listed SSD capacity and upgrade options against how much you keep locally.
- Display: Confirm that the live SKU has the reported 16-inch 2K IPS screen; check brightness and touch support on the seller page if those features matter to you.
- Wireless: Verify Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 on the exact listing rather than assuming every OmniBook 3 configuration includes them.
- Software and workload: Choose Windows if you depend on desktop Windows applications. Consider ChromeOS only after checking compatibility with the services and apps you use. For demanding creative or gaming work, compare more capable systems rather than judging this one by its processor label.
