Short answer: Official Kansas sources support regulated online sports wagering, but do not establish online casino-style games such as slots, roulette, or virtual table games as authorized in the state. A sports betting app is not an online casino. The Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission (KRGC) says that “Some forms of gambling are legal in Kansas, but most forms of gambling are illegal.” See the KRGC’s gambling FAQ and Kansas statute K.S.A. 74-8782 for the distinction.

Are online casinos legal in Kansas in 2026?

The official sources cited here establish a Kansas framework for approved online sports wagering platforms. They do not establish authorization for online casino-style games. That distinction matters: a sportsbook may offer wagers on sporting events, but that does not make its slots, roulette, or casino-table games legal in Kansas.

The KRGC identifies state-operated lotteries and casino-style gaming at Kansas casino facilities among legal exceptions. It describes casino gaming as taking place at regulated Kansas casino facilities; online sports wagering is separately governed by K.S.A. 74-8782. For individual legal questions, consult the KRGC FAQ or the statute rather than relying on an app’s marketing or availability.

Which online gambling apps did Kansas authorize?

The KRGC’s 2025 Annual Report names these sports wagering platforms and their associated Kansas lottery gaming facility managers. This is a report-time snapshot, not a guarantee that every platform remains available in October 2026. Check the regulator’s current information and each operator’s terms before signing up.

Platform named in the KRGC 2025 Annual Report Associated facility
DraftKings Boot Hill
FanDuel Kansas Star
Bet365 Kansas Star
ESPN Bet Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway
BetMGM Kansas Crossing
Caesars Kansas Crossing
Fanatics Kansas Crossing

The report names platforms; it does not compare their odds, app quality, account or withdrawal terms, customer support, fees, or promotions. Those details can change and should be checked directly with the operator. The list is not a ranking, and it applies to sports wagering—not online casino games. See the KRGC 2025 Annual Report.

Who can place an online sports wager in Kansas?

Under K.S.A. 74-8782, a wager on an approved interactive sports wagering platform is accepted only from a person physically located in Kansas when submitting it. An account or a Kansas address alone does not meet that location requirement; the wager must be made while the person is in the state. Platforms use location checks, and a failed check may prevent a wager from being placed.

The statute also sets restrictions on sports wagers and penalties for specified conduct, including certain illegal-funds, proxy-wagering, and false-identification cases. The details depend on the conduct and applicable law; read K.S.A. 74-8760 and consult a qualified professional for advice about a specific situation.

What safeguards do Kansas sports wagering apps have to provide?

K.S.A. 74-8782 requires player-facing responsible-decision tools on interactive sports wagering platforms. These include ways to set time and money limits, information about compulsive gambling and treatment or support, and an option to exclude certain electronic payment methods. The law also prohibits a lottery gaming facility manager from extending a line of credit to someone engaged in sports wagering.

Tool names and placement may differ by app. Review the responsible-gambling or account settings before wagering, and contact the operator or KRGC if a required feature is unclear or unavailable.

What Kansas’s exclusion-program numbers do—and don’t—show

The KRGC’s 2025 Annual Report records 1,506 Sports Wagering Exclusion Program enrollments from September 1, 2022 through December 31, 2025, including 622 enrollments during calendar year 2025. These are program enrollment counts, not an estimate of how many Kansans experience gambling problems and not evidence of treatment outcomes. Program details are available through the KRGC annual report.

How to check an app before using it

  1. Confirm the category. Determine whether the service offers sports wagering or casino-style games; the authorized-platform list above concerns sports wagering.
  2. Check current authorization. Use current KRGC information rather than assuming a platform listed in the 2025 report is still authorized.
  3. Read the operator’s terms. Verify eligibility, location checks, account and withdrawal conditions, markets, and customer-support options with the operator.
  4. Set safeguards first. Find the time and money limits and support information before placing a wager, and use exclusion options if needed.
