If you want the closest match to Gears of War: E-Day, play Gears 5. For a change of pace, The Division 2 offers tactical cover combat in a larger open world, Outriders adds co-op and powers, and Vanquish swaps cover tactics for high-speed action.
One timing note: Xbox lists E-Day for standard release on October 6, 2026, with Premium Edition early access beginning October 1. Some Premium Edition players may already have access. How to choose a game before E-Day
Xbox describes E-Day as a third-person cover shooter centered on movement, cover, weapons, and enemies. The Gears of War team says it has refined the series formula while focusing on those core elements. That makes cover combat the best starting point for finding a similar game—but campaign structure, co-op, and pace also affect how close a substitute feels.

2. The Division 2: tactical cover in a larger world
The Division 2 is a tactical, open-world third-person shooter with cover-based firefights. It suits players who want to maneuver between cover and fight through a broader world, but its open-world and online-facing structure is not a one-to-one replacement for a focused Gears campaign.

3. Outriders: co-op and powers
Outriders is a one-to-three-player co-op RPG shooter. Its appeal is the combination of gunplay, powers, weapons, and gear, so it is a stronger fit if you want to team up and build around abilities than if you want the closest possible match to Gears’ cover rhythm.
People Can Fly has a connection to Gears’ development history, but that connection does not mean Outriders plays like a Gears game. Xbox has discussed the studio’s role in the franchise’s development history; PlayStation describes Outriders in terms of intense gunplay, powers, weapons, and gear. 4. Vanquish: speed over cover patience
Vanquish is the option for players who want aggressive, fast action rather than Gears-style cover tactics.
