If you want the closest match to Monster Hunter Rise’s cooperative hunts and gear-crafting loop, start with Wild Hearts. For quicker, anime-styled monster combat, consider GOD EATER 3. If the main draw is taking on major bosses with friends rather than crafting gear between hunts, ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN offers a different, session-based option.

The distinction matters: these games overlap with Rise in different ways, and the official listings do not establish every multiplayer detail for every title.

How these games compare with Monster Hunter Rise

Monster Hunter Rise provides a useful benchmark: Nintendo’s Switch guide describes quests for up to four players, locally or online, with monster spoils used to upgrade weapons and armor. That guide was published on 26 March 2021, so this is specifically a Switch-era reference point, not a claim about every platform or current matchmaking conditions. #1 Best Overall
Monster Hunter Rise - Nintendo Switch Standard Edition
  • The debut of the new “wirebug” mechanic allows for wire-based grappling actions that can be used to scale cliffs and other hard-to-reach areas, providing new traversal and aerial attack options.
  • The game will introduce magnamalo, a menacing new flagship monster, as well as other new monsters like the shape-shifting aknosom, the amphibious tetranadon, and more.
  • New hunting partners called palamutes can be personalized and used to ride across the terrain, providing players with all-new traveling and attack options.
  • In addition to the plethora of solo and multiplayer quests, the immersive story mode will task aspiring hunters with discovering the secrets behind the puzzling “rampage” events that threaten kamura village.
  • Play solo, or join up to three other hunters in local or online co-op play. The Nintendo Switch system also allows for hunting anywhere, anytime and with anyone!

Wild Hearts: the closest hunt-and-craft alternative

Wild Hearts is the most direct recommendation if you want to pursue large creatures with friends, collect materials, and turn those materials into equipment for harder hunts. EA calls the creatures Kemono and describes them as giant, nature-infused beasts. Its page says players can unite with up to two others to hunt, making the stated group size three. EA’s listing names PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S and gives a release date of 16 February 2023. EA: Wild Hearts.

Why it fits

  • Hunt-to-upgrade progression: The official description explicitly links gathered hunt materials to making weapons and armor for tougher hunts, closely matching the loop that makes Rise’s monster spoils useful.
  • Co-op hunts: EA says you can play with up to two friends or other players. That is one fewer teammate than the four-player Switch quest reference for Rise.
  • A distinct field-building tool: Karakuri technology gives Wild Hearts a recognizable way to set up and use the hunting grounds. It adds its own identity rather than simply reproducing Rise’s systems.

Choose it if

Pick Wild Hearts when the hunt itself, teamwork against a large creature, and crafting from what you gather matter more than matching Rise feature for feature.

GOD EATER 3: high-speed monster action

GOD EATER 3 shifts the emphasis from methodical hunt-and-craft progression to fast battles against Aragami. Bandai Namco describes character creation, a selection of God Arc weapons, and dynamic high-speed combat; it classifies the game as action, anime, and RPG. Its official listing names PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Bandai Namco: GOD EATER 3.

What carries over—and what does not

  • What carries over: The central appeal is fighting powerful creatures with distinct weapon options, making it a natural consideration if monster combat is your favorite part of Rise.
  • What changes: The publisher highlights speed and action rather than a loop of collecting hunt materials to craft equipment.
  • Co-op caveat: The official page cited here does not state a multiplayer player count or substantiate specific online features. Check the platform’s current listing or in-game details before choosing it specifically for a group session.

Choose it if

Consider GOD EATER 3 if you want a faster, anime-styled take on weapon-based monster fights and are willing to verify the multiplayer setup for your platform before buying.

ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN: co-op runs built around bosses

ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN is the better fit when the priority is tackling dramatic bosses with friends, not recreating Rise’s persistent hunt-and-craft progression. Bandai Namco describes it as a standalone adventure in the Elden Ring universe. Players choose Nightfarers and explore changing Limveld sessions to hunt Nightlords; the publisher’s materials describe squads of three or solo play and a changing three-day-and-night cycle, with a boss at the end of each night. Bandai Namco: ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN and Bandai Namco’s 30 May 2025 release announcement.

How its structure differs

Nightreign’s changing sessions and run-based progression make each expedition the organizing unit. That is a different rhythm from quest-based hunts tied to gathering materials and crafting weapons or armor. It matches the “boss fights with friends” half of the search particularly well, but not the full Rise loop.

Choose it if

Choose Nightreign if your group wants changing co-op expeditions that build toward boss encounters and is comfortable with a run-based structure instead of repeatable crafting-focused hunts.
