If Crimson Moon is on your radar, start with Thymesia: Steam sells the two games together in an official bundle, making it the clearest comparison lead. Elden Ring: Nightreign is a looser possibility, based on one preview writer’s impression of an early version of Crimson Moon. Neither source establishes a one-to-one match, so the useful question is what each recommendation is actually based on—and what remains unknown.
What kind of game is Crimson Moon?
Crimson Moon is a gothic action RPG from ProbablyMonsters. Set in Gildenarch, a city threatened by undead, vampires, demons, and other infernal enemies, it casts the player as a Nephilim—a human-angel hybrid—trying to reclaim the city. Its announced combat features include melee weapons, parries, finishers, angelic arts, and transformations. The game also pairs a central hub for planning missions and preparing gear with replayable hunts and challenges that evolve across successful runs. ProbablyMonsters’ introduction on PlayStation Blog describes its aim as “improvisational and expressive combat.”
That combination matters when looking for something similar: the appeal is not just a dark setting, but action combat alongside a mission-and-preparation loop. Crimson Moon can be played solo or in two-player online co-op. Its official co-op announcement says encounters scale dynamically and players share a communal life pool. The August 2026 co-op update gives the details.

Games like Crimson Moon: what the evidence supports
| Game | Why it is worth considering | What is not established by these sources |
|---|---|---|
| Thymesia | Steam offers an official Crimson Moon x Thymesia bundle, the clearest direct connection between the two games in the available sources. | The bundle alone does not establish matching combat, setting, difficulty, replay structure, co-op, or platform availability. See Steam’s Crimson Moon listing for its bundle and current store details. |
| Elden Ring: Nightreign | PC Gamer writer Morgan Park named it as a personal analogy in a hands-on preview of an early version of Crimson Moon, after framing the latter as roguelike/Soulslike and noting its planned two-player co-op. | This is one writer’s impression, not an official comparison or evidence that the games share particular mechanics, multiplayer details, or settings. Read the PC Gamer hands-on preview in that context. |
Why Thymesia is the first game to investigate
The concrete reason to put Thymesia first is the official Steam bundle linking it with Crimson Moon. That makes it a sensible title to investigate if you are looking for a related purchase or a nearby point of comparison. It does not, by itself, tell you whether the games feel alike: the available source does not describe Thymesia’s combat, world, difficulty, progression, or multiplayer. Treat the bundle as a lead, not proof of a close match.

Why Elden Ring: Nightreign is a looser comparison
Elden Ring: Nightreign enters the conversation through PC Gamer’s Morgan Park, who used it as a personal analogy while previewing an early version of Crimson Moon. The same preview characterized Crimson Moon as roguelike/Soulslike and noted its planned two-player co-op. That framing may help readers decide whether to explore Nightreign, but it should not be read as a verified feature-by-feature comparison or a consensus recommendation.
How to choose based on what you want from Crimson Moon
- Want the most directly linked recommendation? Start by investigating Thymesia, because Steam’s official bundle is the strongest direct connection established here.
- Interested in the preview’s roguelike/Soulslike framing? Consider Elden Ring: Nightreign as a looser direction to explore, while remembering that the comparison is one writer’s impression.
- Choosing mainly for co-op, combat, or gothic atmosphere? The available sources do not establish how either comparison game measures up on those specific points. Check each game’s current official or storefront information for the details that matter to you.
