What settings should I change on my Galaxy Z Fold to get better battery life? Start with Power saving when you need extra runtime, then identify apps using battery in the background and adjust the display. On many recent Galaxy builds, Light performance mode and Standard refresh rate offer additional trade-offs. The exact options and menu names vary by Fold model, software version and region, so use Settings search if a path below is missing.
1. Use Power saving for the quickest change
Power saving is the most direct built-in option when you need to stretch the battery. Samsung says it can limit background network use and syncing. Depending on the phone and software, its options may also include turning off Always On Display, limiting CPU speed, lowering brightness, restricting apps or Home screen functions, and turning off 5G on supported configurations.

On many recent Galaxy builds, open Settings > Battery and turn on Power saving. Some versions instead place the control under Settings > Device care > Battery. Review the options shown on your phone before enabling them: restricting background data can delay syncing or notifications, while performance limits can make the phone feel less responsive. Samsung notes that available screens and options can vary by carrier, model and software.

2. Find battery-heavy apps and limit background activity selectively
Check which apps are actually using power before restricting them. Look under Settings > Battery > Battery usage or Settings > Battery > Background usage limits; the precise path varies by build.

Use the lists according to how each app needs to behave:
- Sleeping apps: Add apps that do not need frequent background activity.
- Deep sleeping apps: Use this for apps that can remain dormant until you open them. Deep sleeping apps do not run in the background.
- Never auto sleeping apps: Where available, use this for services that need background operation and timely notifications.
Avoid putting essential messaging, security, navigation or other time-sensitive apps into Deep sleeping if you rely on them to work in the background. Restricting every app can save background activity at the cost of delayed alerts or updates.

3. Reduce display use without sacrificing comfort
Lower brightness and shorten screen timeout
Open Settings > Display, lower brightness to a comfortable level and choose a shorter screen timeout. A bright screen and a long timeout keep the display active or drawing more power; the right balance depends on where and how you use the Fold.
Choose a refresh rate that suits your use
On models and software builds with the setting, open Settings > Display > Motion smoothness and select Standard to use a 60 Hz refresh rate. Adaptive can vary the refresh rate up to 120 Hz for smoother motion. Some models also offer a High option that locks the display at 120 Hz. Choose Standard if battery conservation matters more than smooth scrolling; keep Adaptive or High if you prefer the smoother display and accept the trade-off. Options differ across devices, so do not assume every Z Fold has all three.

If your software includes it, go to Settings > Device care > Performance profile > Light. Samsung describes Light as prioritizing battery life over processing speed. It can be a reasonable choice for routine use when responsiveness is less important; it is not a guaranteed runtime multiplier. Samsung’s cited US Device Care guidance says the profile does not affect game performance, but availability and behavior should not be generalized across every model, region or software build.
5. Check whether the changes address the drain
Use the phone normally for a day, then return to Battery usage and see which apps or activities stand out. Change one or two settings at a time so you can tell whether the likely cause was background activity, display behavior or a particular app. Samsung identifies factors such as brightness, screen timeout, demanding apps, high-resolution streaming and location services as contributors to battery use; network conditions, environment, installed software and personal usage also affect results.
There is no reliable universal number of hours or percentage to expect from these changes. Samsung warns that battery estimates and consumption vary with settings and operating conditions, and its guidance does not establish a controlled battery-life comparison for Galaxy Z Fold models.
