If you want a Fujifilm interchangeable-lens camera now, start with the X-T5: it is the closest currently listed X-T-series alternative, with a 40.2-megapixel sensor and stills and video capability. Choose the X-T50 if portability is your priority, the X-S20 if video is central, or the X100VI only if a fixed lens suits you. Fujifilm’s U.S. camera catalog reviewed on October 7, 2026, does not list an X-T6; that catalog snapshot does not establish whether or when a successor will be announced.

Should you wait for the Fujifilm X-T6?

There is no confirmed X-T6 release date or specification set established by the official sources cited here. Fujifilm’s U.S. camera catalog, checked October 7, 2026, lists current camera models but not the X-T6. That is a time- and region-bounded catalog snapshot, not proof that no separate announcement exists. If you need a camera now, choose based on the shooting experience and system you can buy today rather than on unverified successor rumors.

For the closest current X-T-series option, consider the X-T5 first. The other candidates below address different priorities, not a universal performance ranking: Fujifilm’s product listings give headline specifications, but do not by themselves establish comparative autofocus, image quality, handling, or value.

What Fujifilm camera should you buy instead of waiting for the X-T6?

Camera Best fit Lens Established headline details
X-T5 Closest currently listed X-T-series choice for stills and video Interchangeable 40.2-megapixel sensor; Fujifilm describes it as suited to stills and video.
X-T50 Portability-first X-T option Interchangeable 40.2-megapixel sensor and 6.2K video, according to Fujifilm’s current U.S. shop description.
X-S20 Lightweight hybrid or video-oriented use Interchangeable Internal 6.2K/30p 4:2:2 10-bit video and 4K/60p, per Fujifilm.
X-E5 Analog-style design preference Interchangeable Fujifilm describes it as an analog-style camera with current imaging technology; the cited material does not support a performance ranking against the X-T5 or X-T50.
X-H2 Interest in high-resolution stills and 8K video Interchangeable 40.2-megapixel sensor and 8K video, per Fujifilm’s current shop description.
X100VI All-in-one fixed-lens photography Fixed 23mm F2; 35mm-equivalent field of view 40.2-megapixel APS-C sensor; internal 6.2K/30p 4:2:2 10-bit recording; 20 Film Simulation modes, including REALA ACE.

Fujifilm X-T5: the closest direct alternative

The X-T5 is the most straightforward choice if you want an X-T-line interchangeable-lens body now. Fujifilm’s current U.S. shop description identifies a 40.2-megapixel sensor and positions the camera for both stills and video. That makes it a relevant alternative, not an X-T6 equivalent: the available evidence does not establish what a future successor would offer or how it would differ.

Before buying, check the official specifications for the features that affect your work: handling and controls, autofocus needs, video recording limits, card support, and stabilization. Add the cost and availability of the lenses you expect to use, then compare current local pricing and stock. Fujifilm’s camera shop listing is a starting point for U.S. availability; no price or inventory figure is established here.

Fujifilm X-T50: for a portability-first choice

Fujifilm positions the X-T50 as compact and portable. Its current U.S. shop description lists a 40.2-megapixel sensor and 6.2K video. Those details make it worth considering for everyday or travel photography when carrying a camera matters, but “compact” is manufacturer positioning rather than a verified size comparison with the X-T5.

FUJIFILM X-E5 Mirrorless Digital Camera XF23mmF2.8 Lens Kit - Silver
  • Get the stunning looks of the iconic FUJIFILM X100VI with the added creative flexibility of interchangeable lenses. A similar size and weight to the popular fixed lens X100VI, FUJIFILM X-E5 delivers the same analog controls and a film-camera-inspired user experience but gives you the option to switch lenses to suit your creative needs. X-E5 is compatible with over 40 X Mount optics and accessories, including the all-new XF23mmF2.8 R WR, so the perfect image is always within reach.
  • FUJIFILM X-E5 echoes the timeless style of rangefinder film cameras and features a stunning machined aluminum top-plate. Aesthetically beautiful, the top-plate exudes quality and durability thanks to its premium look and feel as well as delivering a precise, angular design. X-E5 offers analog controls for quick, easy access to core functions, while additional features such as the Bluetooth connectivity button - placed on the base like a film rewind button - enhance the camera’s nostalgic feel.
  • A first for X Series cameras, FUJIFILM X-E5 features a customizable Film Simulation dial. Neatly placed under the aluminum top-plate with a circular window providing an easy view of the active mode, the dial provides fast access to Fujifilm’s unique Film Simulation modes that deliver stunning results straight out of camera. Additionally, the dial has three customizable settings, which give users the option to create and save their own recipes for instant recall in the field.
  • Sometimes the best images are made when lighting is low and, thanks to the in-body image stabilization (IBIS) on FUJIFILM X-E5, you’ll be able to tackle these situations in complete confidence. Providing up to seven stops of benefit at the center of the frame and six stops at the edges, the IBIS system features a new algorithm and upgraded gyro sensor to deliver an improved performance that helps keep crucial images free from camera shake.
  • Image quality is assured with FUJIFILM X-E5 thanks to the latest 40.2-megapixel X-Trans 5 HR sensor and X-Processor 5 imaging engine. This combination brings additional functionality, including a lower base ISO of 125 and deep learning AI-powered subject detection AF across a broader range of subjects. The higher resolution also unlocks a two-step digital teleconverter feature, which crops into the sensor to provide a 1.4x or 2x zoom, giving further in camera flexibility.

Check Fujifilm’s current X-T50 specifications against the X-T5 for viewfinder, stabilization, controls, battery life, card slots, and mode-specific video limits. The cited material does not provide a complete head-to-head comparison, so it does not establish a specific advantage on those features.

Fujifilm X-S20: for a lightweight video or hybrid setup

Fujifilm specifies internal 6.2K/30p 4:2:2 10-bit video and 4K/60p for the X-S20. Those are useful headline capabilities for a buyer who prioritizes video in a lightweight body. Confirm the current X-S20 specification sheet for recording limits and which formats and frame rates are available in each mode; a headline specification does not mean every combination works in every setting.

Fujifilm X-T50 Mirrorless Digital Camera XC15-45mmF3.5-5.6 OIS PZ Lens Kit - Charcoal Silver
  • Dedicated Film Simulation dial offering fast access to 20 Film Simulations (including REALA ACE mode)
  • 40.2-megapixel X-Trans CMOS 5 HR sensor

  • 6.2K/30P, 4K/60P, FHD/240P, 4:2:2 10-Bit Video
  • Native Frame.io Camera to Cloud integration with no accessory requirements

The X-S20’s control layout differs from the X-T models. If you prefer stills-oriented dials, review its controls or handle the camera before choosing; video specifications alone do not determine which body will feel right.

Fujifilm X-E5: for an analog-style design

Fujifilm describes the X-E5 as an analog-style camera with current imaging technology and includes it in its current catalog. Consider it if that design approach is a priority. The information cited here is not enough to say that it outperforms the X-T5 or X-T50 on any defined measure. Compare the X-E5’s current specifications for finder style, controls, stabilization, and body size before deciding.

Fujifilm X-H2: for 40.2 megapixels and 8K video

Fujifilm’s current shop description highlights a 40.2-megapixel sensor and 8K video for the X-H2. Those features may make it a candidate if they match your work, but they do not settle the practical trade-offs. Check the X-H2 product specifications for recording limits and workflow requirements, and compare size and current local price. The cited material does not establish a full comparison with the X-T5.

Fujifilm X100VI: only if a fixed lens works for you

The X100VI is an all-in-one option, not an interchangeable-lens substitute. Its built-in 23mm F2 lens gives a 35mm-equivalent field of view, and it cannot be swapped for another focal length. Fujifilm lists a 40.2-megapixel APS-C sensor, internal 6.2K/30p 4:2:2 10-bit recording, and 20 Film Simulation modes, including REALA ACE. See the X100VI product information if that fixed-lens setup fits your photography.

Is the X-T5 still worth buying?

It is worth considering if you want a current X-T-series interchangeable-lens camera and its 40.2-megapixel sensor and stills-and-video positioning suit your needs. Whether it is the right purchase depends on your lenses, preferred handling, autofocus and video requirements, and local price—not on an unverified comparison with an X-T6. Verify current specifications, stock, and pricing before committing; U.S. catalog listings do not guarantee availability in other regions.

What is the best Fujifilm camera for photography and video?

There is no single best choice established by the available specifications. Start with the kind of camera you need: the X-T5 is the direct X-T-series alternative; the X-T50 emphasizes portability; the X-S20 has explicit internal video specifications; and the X100VI trades lens flexibility for a built-in 23mm lens. The X-H2 is another option if its listed 40.2-megapixel resolution and 8K video matter to your workflow. These are use-case matches, not measured performance rankings.

  • Choose an interchangeable-lens body if you need to change focal lengths or build a lens system. Compare the cost and availability of those lenses as part of the camera budget.
  • Choose by handling as well as specifications. Finder preference and control layout can matter as much as headline resolution, especially when moving between X-T and X-S designs.
  • Confirm video modes in the specification sheet. Resolution and frame rate do not establish recording duration, codec availability, or every mode-specific limit.
  • Check the exact regional listing. The cited catalog and shop are Fujifilm U.S. sources; prices, stock, and availability elsewhere are not established here.
