OBS Studio is the best free starting point for streaming a podcast episode live on YouTube from a computer in India: it is free and open source, works on Windows, macOS and Linux, and lets you combine cameras, images, scenes and audio. For the simplest one-person setup, YouTube’s webcam option avoids installing a studio app. For a remote-guest conversation, a browser studio such as StreamYard may simplify the guest workflow, but its free plan has significant restrictions.
You do not need paid software or special India-specific desktop encoder settings to start. You do need an eligible YouTube channel, a stable upload connection and a test run. YouTube’s live requirements and setup steps apply broadly; check your own Live Control Room for account-specific access.
Choose the tool that fits your podcast format
| Tool | Best fit | What it offers | Important free-plan or setup limits |
|---|---|---|---|
| OBS Studio | Solo shows, audio-led episodes with graphics, or productions needing scene and sound control | Free, open-source desktop software for Windows, macOS and Linux; supports scenes, audio mixing, webcams, images and other sources. OBS Project | Install and configure it yourself, and send its output to YouTube using an encoder stream key. YouTube’s general live eligibility requirements still apply. |
| YouTube webcam | A straightforward live episode with a webcam and minimal production | Start a webcam stream directly through YouTube; no separate desktop studio is required. YouTube encoder setup | Less production control than a scene-based desktop studio. Confirm that live streaming is enabled for your channel. |
| StreamYard free plan | Hosted conversations where a browser-based guest workflow is useful | A browser studio that can connect to a YouTube channel. Connect a YouTube channel | Free-plan hours are capped; multistreaming and custom RTMP destinations are unavailable; streams are not automatically recorded; prerecorded live streaming and downloads are unavailable; StreamYard branding appears. See StreamYard’s free-plan limits. |
Quick recommendation
- Choose OBS if you want control over scenes, audio sources and graphics without paying for the software.
- Choose YouTube webcam if you want the fewest moving parts and do not need a composed multi-source show.
- Consider StreamYard for a remote interview, but check whether its free-plan limits suit your episode length and workflow.
These recommendations follow the tools’ documented capabilities; they are not based on comparative hands-on testing.
Check YouTube eligibility before installing or configuring anything
For computer streaming, YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Enabling live streaming for the first time can take up to 24 hours. Start the process before the day of your episode, and check the channel’s Live Control Room for its current status. YouTube live-streaming requirements
#1 Best Overall
- [XLR Mic Input] One XLR microphone input interface is set on the gaming audio mixer, which is great to up your audio quality with your XLR setup. The XLR mixer is a stepping stone to upgrade your live streaming. Audio mixer offered built-in 48V phantom power which opens up more choices for mics. Directly use it with your condenser microphone but do not solve added peripherals. (NOT available for USB mic)
- [Individual Channel Control] Gaming audio mixer for one mic recording with smooth volume slider fader take your streaming recording to a whole new level with full pleasure. Four independent channels set on the DJ mixer give audio volume of the MICROPHONE, LINE IN, HEADPHONE, and LINE OUT channels individual control. Configurable on the PC audio mixer instead of just operating on your game or streaming software.
- [Mute and Monitor] The front mute and monitor buttons but not at the back, make it easier to get the audio interface use. Ability to mute audio, the audio mixer for streaming prevents background noise from damaging your live broadcast. Real-time feedback between speaking and hearing will not distract your attention, which encourage you to speak more confidently. The sturdy-built control button allow you to operate freely and easily during live streaming.
- [Sound Effects] The computer sound mixer supports four pre-recorded customized button that can be recorded and activated at the press of button to post production. 6 kinds of voice changing modes change your output style. 12 auto tune changes the tone of your voice. The podcast mixer being able to add different and fun effects is a huge bonus for your streaming or game voice.
- [Controllable Vibrant RGB] RGB button on the audio mixer DJ meets different live streaming themes. Lights on the video mixer is vibrant but not harsh on your eyes. Flowing or frozen RGB color rotation in a decent pace presents a greatly strong impression as a "light show" to your audience. Even a streaming equipment accessory will not be dull looking when video production.
The YouTube mobile app has a separate eligibility rule: at least 50 subscribers, a verified channel, no recent live-streaming restriction and live streaming enabled. That 50-subscriber threshold is for mobile-app live streaming; do not apply it to computer encoder streaming. YouTube mobile live-streaming requirements
The cited YouTube guidance does not establish a separate India-specific desktop encoder requirement. Eligibility can still vary by account or feature access, so rely on the status shown for your channel rather than assuming a particular route is available.

Set up a free computer stream with OBS Studio
- Install OBS Studio. Download it from the OBS Project for your computer’s operating system. OBS is free and open source.
- Create the YouTube broadcast. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and open its stream settings in Live Control Room. Use YouTube’s encoder setup instructions for the current interface.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. In YouTube’s stream settings, copy the stream key and enter it in OBS’s streaming settings. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or show it on screen. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
- Build a podcast scene. Add the microphone or audio interface as an audio source. Add a webcam if the episode is on camera, and use images or other sources for a show title or static visual. Use OBS scenes to arrange and switch between the sources you actually need; an audio-led show does not need a camera.
- Check audio and video locally. Speak at the volume you expect during the episode, listen for clipping or unwanted noise, and confirm that the intended microphone—not a laptop mic or another input—is active. Confirm the webcam framing and any graphics in the OBS preview.
- Start the encoder and verify YouTube’s preview. Start streaming in OBS, then check the preview in YouTube Live Control Room. Confirm that picture and sound arrive before making the stream public or beginning the episode.
- End the broadcast deliberately. Stop the stream in OBS when the episode is over, and verify the broadcast has ended in YouTube Studio.
For resolution, bitrate, keyframe interval and other encoder parameters, use the current settings and guidance shown in YouTube’s encoder setup and streaming tips. The available source information does not establish a single bitrate or resolution that is right for every connection, show or encoder. YouTube warns that the total stream bitrate cannot exceed available upload bandwidth. YouTube streaming tips
Use YouTube’s webcam route for a simpler solo episode
- Confirm that live streaming is enabled for your channel.
- In YouTube Studio, start a live stream and choose the webcam option rather than connecting an encoder.
- Allow the browser to use the intended camera and microphone, then check the preview and audio.
- Enter the episode details and start the broadcast when you are ready.
The webcam route suits a simple presenter-led show. If you need multiple visual layouts, sources or more deliberate audio mixing, use OBS instead.

Prepare the episode and connection before going live
- Leave upload headroom. Your upload connection must carry the full stream bitrate, and YouTube recommends allowing sufficient bandwidth beyond that. Other household or office traffic can reduce what is available to the stream.
- Test the complete chain. Run a private or otherwise suitable test before the real episode, and check the Live Control Room preview rather than relying only on what OBS shows locally.
- Monitor both sound and picture. Keep an eye on the YouTube preview and listen for silence, distortion or a wrong input after the stream starts.
- Give yourself time. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend preparing the encoder at least two hours before an event and starting it at least 15 minutes before a scheduled event. YouTube streaming tips
- Keep the setup simple. For a first episode, use only the microphone, camera and graphics you can verify. Add more scenes or sources after you know the basic stream works.
Do you need extra podcast gear?
No particular hardware is required by the tool recommendations above. YouTube describes encoders that can use external audio or video hardware, including microphones; an external microphone is a reasonable optional upgrade if your current audio is poor, but no specific model is evaluated here. YouTube encoder setup
Before buying equipment, test the microphone and room you already have. A clean, correctly selected audio input matters more than adding gear that you have not configured or checked.

Copyright and channel-policy checks for podcast episodes
Only stream audio and video you have permission to use. A podcast episode can include music, clips, images or guest material with rights or permissions separate from your own recording; being the person who hosts the show does not automatically grant rights to every inserted asset. Check YouTube’s current rules and any relevant licenses before broadcasting or leaving a replay available. Do not assume that a live format makes copyrighted material permissible.

Troubleshoot common first-stream problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| You cannot start a live stream | Channel verification, a recent restriction or first-time activation is incomplete | Check the channel’s eligibility in YouTube Studio; first-time activation may take up to 24 hours. For mobile-app streaming, check the separate 50-subscriber requirement. |
| YouTube shows no incoming stream | OBS is not sending, or the stream key is missing, incorrect or outdated | Confirm OBS is streaming, recheck the key in YouTube Studio and OBS, and replace an exposed key before trying again. |
| The preview is unstable or the stream drops | Upload bandwidth is insufficient or fluctuating | Reduce competing network use, check available upload capacity and ensure the stream bitrate fits within it. Test again while monitoring the YouTube preview. |
| YouTube preview has no sound | The wrong input is selected, the source is muted, or OBS is not sending that audio source | Check the active microphone or interface in OBS, its mute state and levels; speak into it and verify the result in the YouTube preview. |
| Video or layout is not what viewers should see | The wrong scene, camera or source is active | Check OBS’s selected scene and source visibility, then compare the local preview with YouTube’s incoming preview before continuing. |
| StreamYard workflow is missing a feature | The requested capability is restricted on its free plan | Check the documented free-plan limits, especially hours, multistreaming, custom RTMP, automatic recording, prerecorded streaming, downloads and branding. |

- One flat price per slot covers any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps, with no re-encode or quality tiers.
- The first day is free with no card. The monthly option is $9.99 per month.
- Each slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, looping and playlists, automatic recovery and StreamNeo team support.
StreamNeo is for YouTube streams from uploaded videos, not a live camera production studio. See StreamNeo, or start the free first day.
