If turn-based combat and Fate lore are your priorities, start with Fate/Grand Order, the clearest official match—just know it is an ongoing smartphone RPG for iOS and Android, not a console game. For the closest return to Fate/EXTRA’s Moon Cell setting and Command Card battles, play Fate/EXTRA Record itself when it releases. If you are willing to trade turn-based combat for action, consider Fate/Samurai Remnant or Fate/EXTELLA LINK.

Which Fate game should you play next?

Game Combat Format and story fit Best for
Fate/Grand Order Turn-based battles with tactical and Command Card phases Ongoing mobile RPG for iOS and Android; a broad Fate setting Players who want turn-based Fate on a phone
Fate/EXTRA Record Strategic, deck-based Command Card battles Standalone remake of Fate/EXTRA, set around the Moon Cell and Moon Holy Grail War; announced for consoles and PC Players who want to revisit the original premise with rebuilt combat
Fate/Samurai Remnant Action RPG combat Story set in Edo during the Waxing Moon Ritual Players who prioritize a new Fate conflict over turn-based battles
Fate/EXTELLA LINK High-speed Servant action combat Branching routes and side missions focused on character bonds Players looking for fast battles and Fate character interactions

Fate/Grand Order: the strongest turn-based alternative

Fate/Grand Order is the most direct choice if the essential combination is turn-based play and Fate lore. Aniplex describes it as a Fate smartphone RPG for iOS and Android. Its official gameplay guide divides battles into a tactical phase and a Command Card phase, so it offers strategic, turn-based encounters rather than the real-time combat found in some Fate action games. Aniplex’s official Fate/Grand Order site has the game and gameplay information.

The trade-off is format: this is an ongoing mobile game, not a standalone console RPG. Choose it for a mobile Fate experience and turn-based battles; choose another recommendation if you specifically want a self-contained console campaign.

Fate/EXTRA Record: the closest return to the Moon Cell

Fate/EXTRA Record is not a separate follow-up to Fate/EXTRA; it is TYPE-MOON’s full remake of the original, which was the Fate series’ first RPG and launched on PSP in Japan in 2010. The remake revises and expands the story, rebuilds the battle system, and retains the digital world of the Moon Cell and the Moon Holy Grail War. Its customizable Command Card deck gives combat a strategic, turn-based feel. The official Fate/EXTRA Record site describes its setting and battle system.

Fate/Samurai Remnant: a new Fate story with action combat

Fate/Samurai Remnant centers on the Waxing Moon Ritual, a conflict between Masters and Servants in Edo. PlayStation describes it as an Action RPG: players switch between Master and Servant and fight in action-based battles. That makes it a strong option if you want a Fate setting and an original conflict, but a poor match if turn-based combat is non-negotiable. PlayStation’s game overview explains the premise and combat.

Fate/EXTELLA LINK: fast Servant battles and character bonds

Fate/EXTELLA LINK is another action-focused alternative rather than a turn-based RPG. Its official gameplay page highlights high-speed Servant combat, branching routes, and side missions that build bonds. Consider it if you want to spend time with Fate characters and prefer fast battles; skip it if the turn-based structure is the main reason you are looking for another game. Marvelous’s official Fate/EXTELLA LINK gameplay page describes those features.

How to choose based on what you liked

  • You want turn-based combat and more Fate lore: Start with Fate/Grand Order if mobile play suits you.
  • You want the Moon Cell premise and a rebuilt version of the original RPG: Look to Fate/EXTRA Record, whose announced release is January 28, 2027.
  • You want an original Fate conflict and accept action combat: Choose Fate/Samurai Remnant.
  • You want fast Servant battles and bond-focused side missions: Choose Fate/EXTELLA LINK.

These recommendations are not a quality ranking: official material establishes their formats, settings, and combat styles, but does not support a comparative verdict on quality, length, difficulty, or cost. PlayStation Blog described the wider franchise as having more than 100 titles across games, anime, novels, manga, and apps as of August 2026; that figure is not a count of games alone. PlayStation’s franchise and release overview provides that dated context.
