The best electric furnace for a manufactured home is the one that matches its duct orientation, cabinet space, electrical service and heating load—not simply the one with the largest capacity. Purpose-built options include Intertherm’s E7ED downflow, E7EU upflow and E7EM upflow/downflow models, Coleman EBE/EBU furnaces and Winchester WE30B units. The available product information supports a specification-led comparison, not a tested ranking; have a qualified HVAC professional verify the exact model and installation before buying.
Which electric furnaces are made for manufactured homes?
These examples are product families identified for manufactured or mobile homes. Their listed capacities are product specifications, not recommendations for a particular home.
| Product family | Orientation or design | Published capacity information | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Intertherm E7ED | Downflow | Intertherm lists 34,000–78,000 nominal BTUH input across its electric furnace models. | Exact model capacity, cabinet dimensions, duct openings and installation requirements. Intertherm product information |
| Intertherm E7EU | Upflow | Same 34,000–78,000 nominal BTUH input range listed across the electric family. | Whether the home’s return and supply layout supports this orientation and exact model. Intertherm product information |
| Intertherm E7EM | Upflow/downflow | Same 34,000–78,000 nominal BTUH input range listed across the electric family. | Permitted configuration in the model’s installation instructions; do not infer it is interchangeable in every installation. Intertherm product information |
| Coleman EBE/EBU | Electric furnaces for manufactured housing; Coleman describes a zero-clearance design for limited space. | Not stated in the cited product information. | Exact model dimensions, clearances, capacity, electrical requirements and compatibility. Coleman product information |
| Winchester WE30B | Mobile-home electric furnace models. | Hamilton Home Products lists models spanning 10–20 kW. | Exact model rating and fit; this range alone cannot establish the home’s required capacity. Hamilton Home Products listing |
Intertherm describes its electric models as “100 percent efficiency equivalent at the point of use” and lists an “AFUE rating: 100%.” Those manufacturer statements describe the listed equipment; they do not establish a household’s operating cost or prove that one model is more efficient than another in a specific home.

What size electric furnace do I need for my manufactured home?
There is no reliable universal BTU-per-square-foot answer. A furnace-family range is not a sizing formula: the right capacity depends on the home’s location and climate, insulation and air leakage, floor plan, existing equipment, duct performance and electrical service. Those details are not established by the product listings.
#1 Best Overall
- HEATING CAPACITY: 15 kW all-electric furnace delivers 47,000 BTU heating output, suitable for medium-sized mobile homes in ideal applications.
- EFFICIENT BLOWER MOTOR: Features ECM multi-speed blower motor with maximum 1600 CFM airflow for optimal heat distribution and low maintenance requirements.
- DOWNFLOW CONFIGURATION: Designed specifically for mobile home installations with compact dimensions of 60.63 inches height, 20 inches width, and 24.6 inches depth.
- ELECTRICAL SPECIFICATIONS: Operates on 208/230V single phase power, requires dual breakers with minimum (2) 82 amps and maximum (2) 90 amps capacity.
Start with the existing system and the home’s data plate, then ask a qualified HVAC contractor to assess the replacement. Hamilton Home Products points buyers to the data plate, existing system size or a contractor estimate/proposal; Intertherm directs buyers to a licensed dealer for sizing and venting guidance. See Hamilton’s WE30B information and Intertherm’s electric furnace information.
How to check whether a furnace will fit
Before choosing a model, have the installer compare the existing system and the candidate furnace against the home’s physical and electrical conditions. A similar-looking cabinet or a general residential furnace is not proof of compatibility.
Rank #2
- Easy Open Door: Secures the door firmly for transit, yet allows easy removal for access.
- Effective Air Filter: Universal disposable filter is readily available and simple to replace.
- Nichrome Heating Elements: Provide long lasting, efficient heating.
- Appliance Quality Door: Protects against rust and other corrosion. Baked enamel finish allows for easy cleaning.
- Fully Insulated Furnace Cabinet: Insures minimized heat loss and quiet operation.
- Orientation and duct layout: Confirm downflow, upflow or an approved multi-position configuration against the home’s supply and return arrangement.
- Cabinet and openings: Measure available space and compare cabinet dimensions and supply/return openings with the exact model documentation.
- Clearances: Check the model’s installation manual for required clearances. A “zero-clearance” description does not remove the need to follow the exact model’s instructions.
- Electrical service: Have a qualified professional verify voltage, circuit capacity, breaker and wiring requirements for the specific furnace. Do not modify circuits yourself.
- Airflow and ducts: Confirm that the blower and duct system are suitable for the selected unit and that the installation can meet applicable requirements.
- Cooling equipment: If the home has central air conditioning or a heat pump, verify whether the furnace can be paired with the existing or planned coil and outdoor equipment.
- Approval and local requirements: Confirm listing or approval documentation, installation instructions and local code with the contractor.
Compare more than the advertised capacity
Once a contractor has identified compatible models, compare the complete installation—not just the furnace name or nominal rating. Ask for model-specific details and geographically relevant quotes.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- Exact model number and rated input or capacity.
- Orientation, cabinet size, opening dimensions and clearance requirements.
- Voltage, breaker, wiring and any electrical work required.
- Duct and airflow suitability, plus any repairs or modifications.
- Compatibility with matched air-conditioning or heat-pump components.
- Warranty terms and availability of local service for that brand and model.
- Total equipment and installation cost, itemized in current contractor proposals.
The available product information does not establish current prices or a uniform warranty comparison. Request written, like-for-like quotes rather than treating a product-family listing as a complete installed price.
Rank #3
- HEATING CAPACITY: Delivers 51,000 BTU heating output with 17KW electric power, providing efficient warmth for mobile home applications.
- MOBILE HOME DESIGN: Specifically engineered as a downflow electric furnace for mobile home installations with optimized airflow distribution.

How to interpret efficiency and operating cost
Electric resistance heat converts electricity to heat at the point of use, but the manufacturer’s efficiency wording is not a prediction of the utility bill. Actual household cost depends on electricity rates, climate, the home’s envelope, thermostat use and the alternatives available. Ask contractors to explain expected operating costs using your local rates and home-specific assumptions; do not treat a product label alone as a savings guarantee.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why these examples are not a ranked “best” list
Manufacturer and supplier pages identify relevant models and specifications, but they do not provide comparable independent field tests, verified savings or a home-specific load calculation. That evidence can support a shortlist based on orientation, fit and verified capacity; it cannot establish an objective winner across homes with different layouts and heating needs.
Rank #4
- POWERFUL HEATING CAPACITY: 68,000 BTU output with 23kW electric heating element provides efficient warmth for mobile home applications.
- DOWNFLOW CONFIGURATION: Specifically designed for mobile home downflow installations, ensuring optimal heat distribution from ceiling to floor.
- MOBILE HOME CERTIFIED: Purpose-built electric furnace designed to meet the specific heating requirements and installation standards for mobile homes.

For context, the U.S. Department of Energy says more than 22 million Americans live in manufactured homes and describes those homes as factory-built under the federal Manufactured Home Construction and Safety Standards, 24 CFR 3280. That program context is not certification of any particular furnace. DOE also says its October 2024 final determination found that electric furnace standards did not need amendment, effective November 18, 2024. See DOE manufactured housing information and DOE electric furnace standards information.
