For a PS5 Pro, use only covers made specifically for the Pro, and treat a separate dust cover as storage protection for a powered-off, cool console. Remove any external cover before turning the console on. Sony warns against operating the system in a closed cabinet or another place where heat can build up, so a sealed or restrictive enclosure is not a safe recommendation.
Best options for a PS5 Pro
There is an important distinction between a replacement cover that attaches to the console and an external cover placed over the whole system. The former must be compatible with PS5 Pro and installed correctly; the latter should be used only while the console is off and cool.

Can you put a PS5 Pro in an enclosure?
Not in a closed cabinet or another location where heat may accumulate. Sony’s safety guidance says, “Do not use the console in a closed cabinet or other locations where heat may build up,” warning that this can lead to overheating, fire, injury, or malfunction. See Sony’s safety guide.

Shinya Tsuchida, PS5 Pro Mechanical Design Lead at Sony Interactive Entertainment, says: “PS5 Pro is a high performing console, so it requires more air to cool it down.” Keep those intake and exhaust areas clear; a vented-looking furniture panel alone is not evidence that an enclosure will cool the console adequately. What to look for in furniture
- Prefer an open arrangement over a closed compartment.
- Keep the rear and bottom airflow areas unobstructed.
- Consider whether warm exhaust could recirculate back toward the console.
- Avoid narrow or cramped spaces; the available guidance does not establish a PS5 Pro-specific clearance measurement.
Sony’s general PS5 FAQ recommends 10 cm (4 in) of space from a wall and says not to put the console in a narrow or cramped space or cover it with cloth. This is general PS5 guidance published in 2020, not a PS5 Pro-specific clearance specification. See Sony’s PS5 ventilation FAQ.
Will PS5 Slim covers fit PS5 Pro?
No. Sony’s Australia compatibility guide lists PS5 Slim CFI-2000 cover sets and original PS5 CFI-1000 covers as incompatible with PS5 Pro. Buy panels explicitly labeled for PS5 Pro and confirm compatibility for your market before ordering, since the cited compatibility page is regional.

Sony’s PS5 Pro console-cover manual gives the removal and installation procedure. Turn the console off, unplug cables, and let it cool before removing or attaching covers. Make sure the covers are correctly installed before powering on; incorrect installation may cause overheating.

No. Sony’s general ventilation guidance says not to cover the console with cloth, and its safety guidance warns against conditions that trap heat. The cited sources do not approve an external dust cover for operation, so use one only over a powered-off, cool console and remove it before starting the system.

How to keep dust down safely
Clean the console and covers carefully
Sony identifies a dust catcher on the PS5 Pro’s top side for cleaning. Its general PS5 ventilation guidance recommends removing dust from vents with a cleaning tool such as a vacuum cleaner. Follow the instructions for your console and avoid blocking the airflow paths while cleaning.
For the console covers, Sony advises wiping with a soft, dry cloth and avoiding solvents and chemically treated wipes. Always turn off and unplug the console and let it cool before removing a cover, as directed in the cover manual.

Set up external storage protection
- Shut down the PS5 Pro fully, unplug it if appropriate for storage, and let it cool.
- Choose an external cover only after confirming that its dimensions and material suit your console and storage setup; the cited sources do not compare specific products or materials.
- Remove the external cover before reconnecting or powering on the console.
Do vented replacement covers improve cooling?
Not on the evidence available here. BoxPlates is a PS5 Pro replacement-cover option, and a 2026 Tom’s Guide review describes the product and the reviewer’s installation experience. That is not independent thermal testing, and larger or more visible vents alone do not prove lower temperatures or better dust protection. Treat aftermarket performance claims cautiously unless they are supported by measurements under comparable conditions.
