There is no objectively best direct-to-consumer home fitness brand for every buyer: connected strength systems, cardio machines, and conventional racks and weights solve different problems. For a useful shortlist, start with the kind of training you will actually do, then compare each product’s space and setup needs, upfront price, and any required membership.
What the 2026 brand rankings say—and what they do not
DTCetc’s 2026 fitness-equipment ranking puts Tonal first at 88/100, JaxJox second at 86/100, and Rogue third at 86/100. It also lists Peloton and Mirror at 81/100, P.Volve and Tempo at 78/100, and Hydrow at 69/100. These are DTCetc’s own scores and ordering, not performance measurements, a consensus ranking, or evidence of hands-on comparative testing. Its list has a broad fitness-equipment scope that includes apparel brands, so it is not a clean ranking of home gym machines alone. See DTCetc’s ranking.
Use the list as one starting point, not as a reason to buy the top-scoring brand. A score cannot tell you whether a wall-oriented strength system fits your room, whether you prefer a treadmill to a rack, or whether an ongoing subscription suits your budget.

Match the brand to your kind of workout
Connected strength: Tonal
Tonal describes its at-home smart strength system as adapting resistance, tracking progress, and providing guided programs. Its current site states that each purchase requires a 12-month commitment at $59.95 per month, plus applicable sales tax. Treat that membership as part of the equipment’s cost, and confirm the terms on Tonal’s site for your purchase. Tonal product and membership information.

Cardio and cross-training: NordicTrack
NordicTrack’s US store lists treadmills, Pilates equipment, bikes, ellipticals, rowers, accessories, and iFIT membership. The store’s offer page described a 30-day in-home trial for qualifying purchases, with exclusions and a $249.99 return-shipping charge in its terms. This is a US-specific, time-sensitive offer; verify eligibility, current terms, and fees for the exact product before ordering. NordicTrack US store.
In a separate Canadian smart-home-gym guide, NordicTrack says its new machines can connect through one iFIT subscription and describes adaptive workout plans and real-time machine adjustment. The guide’s picks are the X24 Treadmill for walking and hiking, C 2450 Treadmill for runners, RW900 Rower for full-body workouts, AirGlide 16 Elliptical for low-impact variety, and X24 Bike for incline-decline cycling. Connected cycling and broader cardio: Peloton
Peloton is associated with connected home fitness, but its March 16, 2026 company announcement also describes a move into equipment engineered for high-traffic gym floors. The company says it serves at-home, hospitality, multifamily residential, and large-gym settings. That expansion does not mean every Peloton product is designed for home use, nor does the announcement establish an independent ranking of its current home range. In that announcement, CEO Peter Stern said the company was “bridging the gap between the home and the gym” with its digital experience and hardware. This is Peloton’s own characterization, not independent evidence of durability or instructional quality.

Conventional strength equipment: REP Fitness
If you want a more traditional gym setup, REP Fitness presents racks, benches, and accessories for home strength training and offers a PR-5000 rack builder. This format is fundamentally different from a connected resistance system: compare the specific equipment you need rather than treating a brand’s overall score as a substitute. How to compare options before buying
1. Decide what training format you want
Choose first among connected strength, cardio or cross-training machines, and conventional rack-and-weight equipment. These categories are not interchangeable. A brand score is less useful than whether the equipment supports your regular workouts.

2. Check the room, installation, and delivery details
Large cardio machines, wall-oriented strength systems, and rack setups impose different demands on a home. Check the exact product listing for dimensions, installation requirements, floor and wall constraints, delivery terms, and any required clearances. Those details vary by model and are not established for every product here, so do not assume one brand’s requirements apply to another.

3. Calculate the full cost, not just the equipment price
Compare the equipment price with required or optional memberships, commitment length, return fees, and the content you want to access. Tonal publishes the membership commitment and monthly rate noted above; NordicTrack’s materials describe subscription-connected iFIT training. Confirm current terms in your region before committing, because subscription and promotional terms can change.

4. Compare the ownership terms that matter to you
For each exact model, review versatility, coaching and automation, training content, user accounts, return window, warranty, and product support. These factors can distinguish two products in the same category, but the available sources do not establish comparative durability results, customer satisfaction, or warranty terms across the brands.
