ELDEN RING is the best all-around pick if you want a dark-fantasy action RPG with a large world to explore, dungeons, and boss fights. Choose Lords of the Fallen (2023) instead for a grimmer setting built around two parallel realms and tactical combat. If you are open to a newer release, The Blood of Dawnwalker became available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on 3 September 2026.

None is a direct substitute for At Fate’s End, which Thunder Lotus describes as an action-adventure about family conflict, narrative puzzles, combat, and emotional duels with estranged siblings. The game is expected in 2027, and its developer says a roughly 90-minute demo is currently available on Steam. Thunder Lotus press kit · Thunder Lotus FAQ

How to choose a game while waiting for At Fate’s End

Use four questions to narrow the options: how much world you want to explore, how overtly bleak a setting you prefer, whether combat should dominate progression, and whether the game is available on your platform. The official descriptions support those distinctions, but they do not provide a comparable measure of quality—so “best” here means the strongest fit for a particular preference, not an objective ranking.

  • For a broad world to roam: start with ELDEN RING.
  • For an explicitly grim setting and parallel-world exploration: look at Lords of the Fallen (2023).
  • For a recently released dark-fantasy alternative: consider The Blood of Dawnwalker.

ELDEN RING: best for open-world exploration

Bandai Namco describes ELDEN RING as an action RPG set in an authentic dark-fantasy world, with treacherous dungeons and boss battles. Its mix of scale, exploration, and dark fantasy makes it the broadest recommendation for someone looking for a substantial world to explore while waiting for At Fate’s End.

Lords of the Fallen (2023): best for a bleaker, parallel-world setting

This is the clearest choice if you want an overtly grim dark-fantasy premise. Its central exploration hook is travel between two parallel realms: the living world and the world of the dead. The official page also describes fast, challenging tactical combat, a broad selection of weapons and magic, and optional online co-op.

Lords of the Fallen (2023) is available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Its combat and setting make it a useful alternative for players seeking a combat-focused dark-fantasy RPG, but its advertised strengths do not make it a close match for At Fate’s End’s family-centered narrative duels.
