The Wandering Village is the closest verified Nintendo Switch match if what you want from Frostpunk is building a settlement while managing survival threats. For a different scale, Sheltered focuses on keeping a family alive in an underground refuge, while This War of Mine: Complete Edition centers on civilians enduring a siege. Surviving the Aftermath is another colony-management option, but check your region’s eShop before assuming it is currently available to buy.
What makes a Switch game feel like Frostpunk?
Frostpunk combines society-level survival with settlement management: Nintendo describes it as a game “where heat means life and every decision comes at a price” on its Australia Nintendo Switch listing. A useful alternative depends on which part of that loop matters most to you: expanding a settlement, keeping a shelter running, or making difficult choices under severe pressure.

A Switch community discussion phrases the request as “Games like Frostpunk but for the switch,” clarifying that the desired experience is “growing and managing a settlement” with the environment as the main concern. That distinction matters: some recommendations below share Frostpunk’s survival themes but do not involve building a city.

The Wandering Village is the strongest fit if you want to build and expand a settlement while responding to threats from the environment. Nintendo describes it as a “city-building simulation game on the back of a giant, wandering creature” on its Canada Nintendo Switch page.
#1 Best Overall
- Capture and Tame Dinosaurs: Discover over 100 different dinosaurs and prehistoric creatures on the island, finding ways to tame them into useful additions for your tribe's dyno herd
- Survive Above All: Hunger, thirst, basic safety, and protecting yourself from the weather are all part of the game
- Harvest, Hunt and Build: Cut down trees and turn them into a basic home, which you can quickly expand into a Jurassic estate. Hunt for meat, scavenge for plants (or start your own garden!)
- Customize Everything: An extensive crafting system invites you to mix and match materials scavenged from the island, while also modifying the colors, textures, shapes, and styles
- Explore the Island: Solve the mystery of The ARK as you explore this massive island, discovering Explorer's Notebooks (filled with clues!) throughout
You build a village on Onbu, plan production chains, adapt as the creature travels through changing biomes, and protect both the villagers and their host from environmental dangers. Toxic spores, weather, parasites, and Onbu’s needs shape the survival challenge. The moving settlement and relationship with Onbu give the game a distinct identity; it is not a direct mechanical clone of Frostpunk.
Nintendo lists a Switch version, and Serenity Forge describes a physical Switch copy in its Premium Edition store listing. The cited listing supports the existence of a physical edition, not current inventory at a particular retailer.

- Includes: School Bus Adventures DLC and digital soundtrack
- Build: your own home on wheels and live sustainably off-grid
- Source Energy: power your electric camper van with energy from the sun, wind, or water.
- Craft: workstations and tools from resources provided by Mother Nature.
- Grow: create gardens to nurture delicate and delicious plants and mushrooms
Sheltered: family survival and shelter upkeep
Choose Sheltered if the appeal of Frostpunk is managing scarce resources and protecting people, but you would rather focus on a family than a growing city. Nintendo’s US Switch page describes a family of four trying to survive after an apocalypse from an underground shelter.
You maintain the refuge, manage threats including radiation and mental exhaustion, defend against attacks, and send family members out to scavenge. The scale is deliberately personal: this is shelter upkeep and family survival, not city construction.

- Earn rewards and immunity by performing well during trials, but be careful not to get exhausted and avoid getting hurt so you don't forfeit
- Form alliances with strategies, read your competitors' personalities, and use everything learned to gain the upper hand during the Tribal Councils
- Enjoy the tropical paradise as you soak in stunning scenery and take in the sun; Watch out, you never know when a coconut might come crashing down
- Think you have what it takes to outdo your friends; Join the multiplayer mode and prove it
This War of Mine: Complete Edition: civilian survival, not city building
This War of Mine: Complete Edition is a better choice if you want bleak civilian survival and difficult social choices rather than the work of building a settlement. Nintendo’s UK listing describes civilians surviving in a besieged city: you maintain a hideout during the day and scavenge at night.
The Complete Edition includes the base game and additional content. Its core loop is keeping a civilian shelter going amid scarcity, danger, and moral decisions; it does not ask you to construct or manage a city.

Surviving the Aftermath: colony management after catastrophe
Surviving the Aftermath is worth considering if you want to build and manage a survivor colony after a world-ending event. Paradox describes that premise and lists Nintendo Switch among the platforms on its game page.
