There are two different products people may mean by “cigarette smoke detector”: a specialist device intended to detect tobacco smoking in a monitored area, and a household smoke alarm intended to warn people about a fire. They are not interchangeable. For smoking deterrence, the documented example here is Radal’s Cig-Arrête range; for fire safety, choose compliant household smoke alarms and follow local requirements. The available evidence does not establish a tested best overall model, so the right choice depends first on the job you need the detector to do.
Choose a smoking detector or a fire alarm first
A tobacco-smoke detector is designed to identify smoking in a selected area, such as a business or institutional washroom. A household smoke alarm is life-safety equipment: it warns occupants about smoke from a fire, including a fire that might have started from a cigarette. A specialist smoking detector is not established here as a substitute for a code-compliant fire alarm.
Before comparing products, identify the intended use, the area to be covered, the mounting and power requirements, how alerts are delivered, whether units need to interconnect, and which local fire or building rules apply. Those are selection checks—not features that every product below is documented to provide.

Battery and wired options
Radal describes battery-powered products using four AA alkaline cells and wired variants powered at 9–24 V DC. The company says compatible devices can be installed stand-alone or interconnected within the range. Exact configurations, wiring, setup, alert behavior, and system design depend on the model; verify them with the supplier and the product documentation before purchase. Radal Cig-Arrête product range
The published information does not establish that Cig-Arrête is a fire alarm or demonstrate its approval under any particular fire-alarm code. Ask the local fire marshal or building authority whether a smoking-policy detector is permitted and appropriate for the intended space.

- 5 in 1 indoor air quality :monitor it tracks carbon dioxide (CO2), formaldehyde (HCHO), volatile organic compounds (TVOC), temperature and humidity, helping you stay aware of air quality and potential health risks.
- REAL-TIME DATA UPDATES:Each item of this indoor air quality monitor constantly changes and updates its value at different times and in different environments, and the high-quality LED display allows you to visualize the changes in indoor CO2, formaldehyde, temperature, and humidity.
- Simple Operation:Air quality sensor press and hold the "Power" button for 3 seconds to turn the air quality monitor on or off. Once powered on, it automatically starts detecting. The default temperature unit is Celsius (℃), but you can switch to Fahrenheit (℉) by pressing and holding the "Power" button for 1 second.
- Special note:In single-channel infrared detection technology, CO2 data will inevitably shift after transportation or use for a period of time, so manual calibration is required. If the CO2 data deviation is found to be large after the first startup, calibration is required. After the device is powered on, place it outdoors or near a window for more than 10 minutes. Press the multi-function button 3 times in succession and the calibration will be completed after a beep sound.
- Wide Application:This portable intelligent home air quality meter can detect air quality in bedrooms, living rooms, kitchens, cellars, cars, grow tents, offices, schools, hotels and more. it can be placed on the desktop for easy viewing, is an ideal indoor air quality detector for our lives
Household smoke alarms for fire protection
For homes and places where people sleep, the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA) recommends either having both ionization and photoelectric alarms or using dual-sensor alarms. It advises installing alarms in sleeping areas, outside sleeping areas, and on every level of the home; follow the alarm manufacturer’s instructions for exact placement. USFA also recommends testing alarms monthly and replacing them at ten years. These are general U.S. recommendations; local requirements can differ. USFA smoke-alarm guidance

Ionization alarms detect changes in electrical current as particles enter an ionization chamber. Photoelectric alarms detect light scattered by particles in a sensing chamber. Because smoke from different kinds of fires has different characteristics, USFA says ionization alarms tend to respond faster to flaming-fire smoke and photoelectric alarms tend to respond faster to smoldering-fire smoke. USFA does not identify one type as universally better. NIST explains the sensing mechanisms in more detail. USFA position statement on home smoke alarms · NIST: How do smoke detectors work?

Documented household model example: Kidde PI9010
Kidde describes the PI9010 as a battery-operated, 9V dual-sensor smoke alarm with a hush feature. The manufacturer says the PI9010 is to be replaced by model 20SDR, so check current model status and availability rather than assuming the PI9010 is the current option. It is a fire alarm example, not a dedicated smoking-policy detector. Confirm that any model you consider meets local rules and the manufacturer’s installation instructions. How to compare options for your building
| Option | Intended job | Documented details | Limit to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cig-Arrête CSA-GOV | Detect and discourage tobacco smoking in a monitored facility area | Radal says it uses gas sensing, gives voice messages, and covers 3m × 3m × 3m. | Those are vendor claims. Verify coverage, configuration, location suitability, and local rules. It is not established here as a fire alarm. |
| Cig-Arrête wired variants | Facility smoking deterrence where a wired installation is preferred | Radal describes 9–24 V DC power and interconnection of compatible products. | Exact models and system design are not stated on the general product information; confirm with the supplier. |
| Household dual-sensor smoke alarm | Warn occupants of fire smoke in homes and places people sleep | USFA recommends dual-sensor units or both ionization and photoelectric alarms. | Not specifically documented as a smoking-policy enforcement device. Follow local code and product instructions. |
| Kidde PI9010 | Household fire warning | Kidde lists a 9V dual-sensor alarm with a hush feature and says it is to be replaced by model 20SDR. | Check current availability, model status, and local suitability. |
For any candidate, compare intended use, sensor technology, area and mounting conditions, power source, interconnection, alert type, setup and programming, and servicing needs. Then check whether the product and installation satisfy the rules for your jurisdiction and building type.

Reduce nuisance alarms without losing fire protection
Cooking particles and other airborne particles can activate smoke alarms. Do not remove or disable an alarm to avoid nuisance alerts. USFA advises using the hush feature when available, airing out the room, or—where appropriate—moving an alarm several feet from a cooking source while following the manufacturer’s placement directions. NIST reports an NFPA figure that working smoke alarms in a home are associated with a 55% reduction in the risk of dying in a fire. NIST’s page does not state the original statistic’s publication year. The figure concerns working fire smoke alarms, not specialist cigarette-smoking detectors. NIST: How do smoke detectors work?

Check standards and local requirements
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission identifies NFPA 72, NFPA 101, and UL 217 as model codes and standards relevant to smoke-alarm performance and safety. That context does not establish whether a particular Cig-Arrête product is approved or compliant. Requirements can depend on location and building type; consult the local fire marshal or building authority, a qualified alarm professional, and current manufacturer documentation.
