For the positive Ciri outcome, choose “Go for it” when Ciri asks whether she should destroy Avallac’h’s laboratory, then agree to accompany her to Skjall’s grave. Both are positive decisions in the game’s broader Ciri-ending tally; neither choice alone guarantees a particular ending.
What happens in “Child of the Elder Blood”?
“Child of the Elder Blood” is a main-story quest in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer investigate Avallac’h’s laboratory on Pali Gap Coast in Skellige. There, they find material about Lara Dorren and the Elder Blood lineage Ciri shares. At the end of the laboratory sequence, Ciri reacts to what she has discovered and asks whether she should destroy the place. WitcherDB’s quest summary and GameBanshee’s walkthrough document the choices that follow.
Which choices should you make?
| Moment | Positive choice | Alternative | Effect on Ciri’s tally |
|---|---|---|---|
| Avallac’h’s laboratory | Choose “Go for it” and let Ciri smash the lab. | Choose “Calm down.” | Encouraging her is positive; telling her to stop is negative. |
| Skjall’s grave | Agree to go with Ciri and pay your respects. | Refuse to go. | Going with her is positive and begins the follow-up quest “Skjall’s Grave”; refusing is negative. |
The lab decision comes after Ciri encounters an elf in the bedroom and takes the elf’s hostile words about her and Avallac’h to heart. Choosing “Go for it” gives her room to express her anger and grief. Later, agreeing to visit Skjall’s grave means she does not have to grieve alone. The guide sources classify these as positive or negative choices in the wider ending calculation, rather than as individual ending switches.

They are two entries in a broader set of Ciri-related decisions. WitcherDB says Ciri survives unless Geralt accumulates three or more negative choices overall. That makes the choices in this quest meaningful, but not decisive by themselves: other decisions elsewhere in the story also contribute to the outcome.
#1 Best Overall
- Trained from early childhood and mutated to gain superhuman skills, strength, and reflexes, witchers are a counterbalance to the monster-infested world in which they live.
- Built for endless adventure, the massive open world of The Witcher sets new standards in terms of size, depth, and complexity.
- Take on the most important contract of your life: to track down the child of prophecy, the key to saving or destroying this world.
The Empress ending has additional requirements. According to WitcherDB, Ciri must survive, Geralt must visit Emhyr, and Nilfgaard must win through the “Reason of State” quest. Choosing both positive options here does not satisfy those other conditions.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Should you choose differently for role-play?
If your goal is to support Ciri and favor the positive Ciri outcome, choose “Go for it” and go with her to Skjall’s grave. If you prefer Geralt to respond differently in the moment, the alternatives reflect that role-play choice, but they count as negative decisions in the ending tally. GameBanshee describes the lab choice as pushing toward a “good” or “bad” ending; treat that as guide shorthand, not a guarantee from one dialogue exchange.
