Console players normally play in a separate console matchmaking environment. When a console player joins a party with a PC player, the entire party is matched into PC games. This protects the ordinary console queue from being treated as identical to a PC-inclusive party, but it also means the PC friend changes the conditions for everyone else.

Cross-play is enabled by default. Embark also describes cross-progression through an Embark ID, which is a separate benefit from simply being able to join a friend’s match. Cross-play answers the question, “Can we play together?” Cross-progression addresses whether supported progress can follow an account between platforms. Console players notice a different matchmaking pool
