There is no single best business loan for bad credit: the right option depends on how much you need, what the money will fund, your cash flow, location, time in business and how quickly you need it. For smaller eligible expenses, an SBA Microloan may be worth exploring. If your business has unpaid invoices or consistent sales, invoice or revenue-based financing may also be available—but can be more expensive or harder to compare. Treat “bad credit business loan” as an umbrella term, not a promise of approval or a single loan category.
What “business loans for bad credit” can mean
Lenders do not use one universal credit-score cutoff for business financing. A lender may consider personal credit alongside business revenue, time in business, unpaid invoices, account activity, collateral or platform transaction history. A low score may narrow your options, but it does not by itself tell you which product is suitable or whether you will qualify.
Common options include nonprofit and SBA-backed microloans, short-term loans, equipment financing, invoice factoring and sales-based funding. They differ in cost, eligible uses, payment schedules and underwriting. Compare actual offers rather than relying on a lender’s minimum score or an advertised “no credit check” claim.

| Option | Amount and eligible use | Cost and repayment | Credit and underwriting | Important limits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SBA Microloan | Up to $50,000. Eligible uses include working capital, inventory, supplies, furniture, fixtures, machinery and equipment. | The SBA says rates are generally 8%–13% and the maximum term is seven years. Actual terms are set by the intermediary. | Nonprofit community-based intermediaries make credit decisions. A universal minimum score is not stated by the SBA. | Cannot be used to pay existing debt or purchase real estate. The SBA says the average loan is about $13,000; that is a program average, not a promised offer. |
| Ascendus | Not stated in the cited comparison. | LendingTree’s comparison updated September 30, 2026, lists rates of 7.75%–15.99%, a $200 application fee and a 5% closing fee. | The same comparison lists a 575 minimum score and six months in business. | Unavailable in Vermont according to that comparison. These are secondary-source figures; confirm current terms directly with the lender. |
| Kiva | The amount depends on funds raised during a private fundraising period, according to LendingTree’s comparison. | LendingTree’s comparison updated June 12, 2026, reports 0% interest. Verify current terms with Kiva; these figures were not confirmed against current primary Kiva terms. | The comparison reports no minimum score, time in business or revenue requirement. | Review can take up to two weeks, and fundraising affects the amount available. The comparison is not a guarantee of current eligibility or funding. |
| Invoice or sales-based financing | May be relevant to a business with unpaid invoices, sales or a track record on a platform. Amounts and eligible uses depend on the provider. | Specific rates, fees and terms are not stated in the cited information. Payments may be tied to invoices or sales; compare total repayment and payment frequency. | Providers may focus more on receivables, revenue or transaction history than on a conventional score alone. | “No credit check” does not mean no underwriting or low cost. A factor rate or fast-funding claim does not show the full cost by itself. |
SBA Microloans are made through nonprofit community-based intermediaries. The intermediary—not the SBA—decides whether to approve an applicant and sets borrower terms. See the SBA Microloan program page for program details and locate a participating intermediary to ask about its current requirements.

The Ascendus figures above come from LendingTree’s microloan comparison, updated September 30, 2026. Kiva figures come from LendingTree’s no-credit-check comparison, updated June 12, 2026. Comparison-site terms can change and are not a substitute for the lender’s current disclosures or a written offer.
How to choose an option for your situation
For a smaller, eligible business expense
Consider an SBA Microloan if you need working capital, inventory, supplies or eligible equipment, and can work with a nonprofit intermediary’s application and repayment process. Its reported maximum is not an indication that every applicant will be offered that amount. If the intended use is paying existing debt or buying real estate, this program does not fit.

For a business with unpaid invoices
Ask invoice-financing providers how much of an invoice they advance, what fees apply, who collects from the customer and what happens if the customer pays late or disputes the invoice. Compare the amount you receive with the total you must repay; do not judge the offer by speed alone.

Sales-based financing may assess transaction or account history and collect payments in relation to sales. Check how often payments are taken, whether the amount varies with revenue, and the total repayment. Daily or frequent deductions can strain cash flow even when a payment is described as a share of sales.

When a specific lender is under consideration
Use comparison pages to identify questions, not to assume you qualify. Confirm that the lender serves your state and industry, its current minimum requirements, all upfront and ongoing fees, the repayment schedule, collateral or personal-guarantee requirements, and the full cost in writing. An advertised rate or score threshold does not establish the offer you will receive.
Compare the real cost and risk before applying
Put offers on a like-for-like basis. Ask for the amount deposited into your account, total dollars to repay, every fee, repayment term and payment frequency. If one offer uses an APR and another uses a factor rate or a portion of daily sales, ask the provider to explain the total repayment and the timing in dollars. A fast advance can be costly if frequent payments leave too little cash for payroll, rent, taxes or suppliers.

- Use and availability: Confirm the funds can be used for your purpose and that the lender serves your location and industry.
- Time to funding: Get a realistic timeline, including application review, document requests and any fundraising period.
How to improve your chances without taking an unsuitable loan
Before applying, prepare a clear use-of-funds amount and a repayment plan based on realistic cash flow. Gather recent business bank statements, revenue records, tax information, invoices or other documents the lender requests. Ask whether applying triggers a hard personal-credit inquiry and whether the lender can first explain likely eligibility without one.
