Best budget pick: two Sonos Era 100 SL speakers
Sonos describes two Era 100 SL speakers as rear speakers for a home-theater setup, and its compatibility guidance lists the model for Beam (Gen 2). At the US price displayed on Sonos’s product page on October 7, 2026, a pair cost $298 before tax: Era 100 SL product page. The listed $149 per speaker was reduced from $189; it is a time-sensitive vendor price, not a guaranteed ongoing offer.

The page lists additional compatible models, including Era 300, One (Gen 1 and Gen 2), One SL, Play:1, Play:3 and Play:5 (Gen 2), as well as several SYMFONISK models. Do you need two speakers, and do they have to match?
Yes. Sonos generally requires two speakers of the same model for surround use. Its guidance describes limited related-model exceptions, such as pairing a One with a One SL; that does not mean arbitrary speakers can be mixed.
Do not assume a third-party Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or home-theater speaker can be added as a Beam surround. The official compatibility material reviewed does not list support for those options.

Check your Beam generation before ordering
The compatibility evidence above applies specifically to Beam (Gen 2). If you own a different Beam generation, identify it in the Sonos app or from the product information and check Sonos’s compatibility guidance for that exact model before choosing rear speakers. A model appearing on the Gen 2 list alone does not establish support with every Beam.

Choose by the full pair cost and placement
Compare the cost of two compatible speakers, not a single unit, and verify the current price rather than relying on a dated sale. For a benchmark, Sonos’s US Beam surround set page displayed a Beam (Gen 2) with two Era 100 speakers for $887, reduced from $937, on October 7, 2026. That bundled system is not the lowest-cost speaker-only option at the reviewed prices. The page also lists optional Era 100 wall mounts if wall placement suits your room: Beam and Era 100 surround set.
