There is no single best budget projector for every room. For a U.S. budget under $500, the Epson EpiqVision Flex CO-FH02 is the brightness-focused pick based on its published specifications; choose the Epson EF-30 if integrated Google TV matters more, or the XGIMI MoGo 4 if battery-powered portability is the priority. Prices and availability change, so confirm them before buying.
How these budget projector picks are ranked
This shortlist is organized by use case, not by a claim that one model wins every comparison. The available information identifies suitable candidates but does not establish a definitive, independently tested top-five ranking. Manufacturer specifications and buying-guide descriptions are not the same as independent lab results, and no hands-on testing is claimed here.
The main decision factors are native resolution, brightness with its measurement standard, room lighting and intended image size, placement distance, and the value of features such as streaming, speakers, or a battery. A projector that accepts a high-resolution input is not necessarily native 4K; check its stated native resolution.

1. Epson EpiqVision Flex CO-FH02: prioritize brightness
The CO-FH02 is the brightness-oriented option among these candidates. Epson’s U.S. product page lists Full HD 1080p, Android TV, image sizes up to 300 inches, and 3,000 lumens of color brightness measured under IDMS 15.4 plus 3,000 lumens of white brightness under ISO 21118. Those figures use different measurement standards and should not be relabeled as ANSI lumens or compared as though they were measured identically. Epson’s CO-FH02 specifications showed a $499.99 price with a displayed $50 discount when checked; recheck the live page for current price and availability.

- Auto Focus & Keystone Zero-Fuss: Advanced auto focus and auto keystone correction instantly adjust for a sharp, aligned screen-just place, power on, and enjoy a big screen without manual setup.
Consider it when you want a brighter image or a larger picture and can accommodate a less portable setup. The stated image-size ceiling does not guarantee a usable picture at every size or in every room; match screen size and throw distance to your space.
2. Epson EF-30: prioritize integrated Google TV
The EF-30 is the smart-feature candidate for buyers who want Google TV built in. A current buying guide listed Full HD 1080p, 350 lumens of color and white brightness, and a price of $499.99 when checked. These are secondary-source claims, not manufacturer-verified specifications in the available material, so confirm the current model page and price before treating them as final. The buying guide’s EF-30 listing is useful for identifying the candidate, but its figures should not substitute for Epson’s current product information.

- [TV-Like Simplicity] — A TV Experience, Reimagined for the Big Screen Powered by VIDAA, a platform built with TV viewing at its core, this smart projector brings familiar TV-like ease to the freedom of projection. The clean, responsive interface keeps menus simple and distractions minimal, so movie night feels less like operating a device and more like turning on your TV. Compact enough for a bedroom or ceiling setup, yet ready to turn everyday spaces into a big-screen home theater.
- [Complete TV Content] — 1,200+ Apps, 1,000+ Live Channels, One Screen This is more than Netflix built into a projector—it’s a complete TV content experience. Explore 1,200+ apps including Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video, Disney+, Hulu, Pluto TV, Plex, Tubi, DAZN and peacock, plus 1,000+ Live TV channels spanning movies, shows, news, sports, education and kids’ entertainment. Smart Search and Voice Control help cut through endless browsing—ask for Sunday football, find the kids a show, or settle into movie night, all from one screen.
- [Brighter, More Detailed Picture] — High-brightness, HDR10, Native 1080P & MEMC Great picture quality lives in the little things—the stitching on a football jersey, sunlight breaking through clouds, or details hiding in the shadows of a night scene. High brightness keeps the picture vivid for everyday viewing, while HDR10 enhances contrast and detail. Native 1080P delivers crisp Full HD, 4K decoding handles high-resolution content, and MEMC keeps fast sports and action scenes looking smoother. A 4K projector experience built for more than movie night.
- [Certified AirPlay & Dolby Audio] — Share It Bigger. Hear It Better. A big screen should feel effortless and sound just as immersive. AirPlay lets you share compatible content from Apple devices onto the big screen—perfect for vacation photos, family videos or a spontaneous movie night. Dolby Audio adds fuller, room-filling sound without immediately reaching for extra speakers, while noise as low as 28 dB keeps the projector from competing with quiet dialogue. A Bluetooth projector made for both watching together and winding down.
- [Auto Setup, Easy Viewing] — Move the Projector, Not Your Plans Your screen shouldn’t be tied to one room. Auto Focus quickly brings the picture into clarity, while Keystone Correction helps straighten the image with less manual adjustment. Move this portable projector from the living room to a projector for bedroom viewing, aim it toward the ceiling, or take your outdoor projector into the backyard for movie night. With WiFi and Bluetooth built in, big-screen entertainment can follow wherever the night takes you.
Its listed brightness is far below the CO-FH02’s stated figures, so do not choose it solely for built-in streaming without considering room lighting and image size. Verify whether its brightness and placement suit your particular room.

It also reported a promotional $479 price and a regular $499 price when checked. 4–5. Other under-$500 shortlist candidates
A comparison page updated October 7, 2026 lists the XGIMI Halo+ GTV, BenQ GV32, and Optoma HD146X among its under-$500 options. That is a lead list, not enough evidence to rank these models or confirm that each remains under budget. How to match brightness, room, and screen size
Brightness figures only help when their units and measurement methods stay attached. In particular, the CO-FH02’s published IDMS color-brightness and ISO white-brightness figures are not ANSI-lumen measurements. The MoGo 4 figure is reported in ISO lumens. Do not compare these numbers as if they shared one standard.

Before purchase, check the manufacturer’s throw-distance and image-size guidance against the exact place you intend to set the projector. Automatic focus or other setup conveniences do not change the optical distance needed to form the image. The CO-FH02 page’s stated maximum image size is not a substitute for checking the usable picture from your planned position.
Is a portable projector better than a fixed home projector?
Choose portability when battery operation, compact placement, or moving the projector between rooms is important. Choose a brighter fixed or less portable model when you expect a larger image, have some ambient light, or value brightness more than battery convenience. Neither type is automatically better: the right trade-off depends on room lighting, placement, image size, and whether you need to project away from an outlet.
Quick Recap
What to verify before you buy
- Native resolution: Confirm the projector’s native resolution rather than relying on a label that only says it supports a particular input resolution.
- Brightness units: Keep the unit and measurement standard with every figure; do not treat ISO, IDMS, ISO 21118, and ANSI figures as interchangeable.
- Room fit: Check image size and throw distance for your intended location, and consider how much ambient light you can control.
- Streaming: Confirm which apps and licenses are currently supported on the exact model, especially if a specific service is essential.
- Price and included items: Check current price, availability, and included accessories with the manufacturer and seller. The listed prices here are snapshots, not promises.
