What are the best basketball games to play after a basketball simulator leaves Steam? If you want another current simulation on PC, start with NBA 2K27. If you would rather play a quicker, retro-style game, consider Basketball Classics. They offer different experiences, so the right replacement depends on whether you want modern modes and online play or straightforward arcade action.
The simulator in question is not identified, so its removal date and status cannot be confirmed here. A game being removed from sale is also different from its online servers shutting down.

2K announced NBA 2K27 as available worldwide on September 4, 2026, including PC via Steam. It is the clearest current simulation-style option among the games covered here. 2K describes overhauled gameplay and a broad selection of career, franchise, team-building, and women’s basketball modes. Those are publisher descriptions, not independent gameplay testing; feature availability varies by mode and platform.

For online play, 2K’s service-status table currently schedules NBA 2K27 online services through December 31, 2028. The date is a planned service schedule, not a guarantee that it will not change. The same table lists Play Now, MyNBA/MyLeague/MyGM, 2KU/Learn 2K, MyWNBA, and The W as offline modes. See the official NBA 2K service-status table for current details.
Best retro alternative: Basketball Classics
Basketball Classics is a different kind of replacement: a side-scrolling, 5-on-5 game that pairs arcade action with on-the-fly strategy. Steam lists its release date as December 18, 2019, and describes simplified three-button controls, more than 175 teams, more than 1,000 players with individualized attributes, a one-player story mode, and local multiplayer. It is not a like-for-like modern simulation.

The Steam listing says the game has no virtual currency, pay-to-win, or microtransactions; that is the store’s product description. Check its Steam page for current availability, supported systems, edition details, and price.

Check whether the departing game is delisted or discontinued
Because the title is unspecified, there is no reliable way to give its removal date. Check the exact game’s publisher or support notice: removal from sale, the end of online services, and continued access for existing owners are separate questions.

For example, 2K’s notice, updated October 2, 2026, says NBA 2K25 is scheduled to leave purchase listings on October 30, 2026, and be discontinued on December 31, 2026. Owners can still redownload it and play offline modes. From January 1, 2027, its online modes, MyCAREER, MyTEAM, VC earning, and other server-dependent features are scheduled to end; the notice identifies Play Now, MyNBA, The W, and MyWNBA as offline modes that remain playable. These dates describe NBA 2K25, not the unnamed simulator in the question. See 2K’s NBA 2K25 service notice.
2K says titles outside its current lineup, including NBA 2K24 and earlier entries, are discontinued and no longer available for purchase. Owners may still redownload them and play offline modes, while multiplayer and other online features are unavailable after service retirement. Older annual sports games can therefore remain playable offline after their online features end. - Want a modern simulation and a range of modes? Choose NBA 2K27, and confirm that the mode you care about is available on your platform.
- Want quick, retro-style games? Try Basketball Classics; its side-on arcade format differs substantially from a full modern simulation.
- Care most about online longevity? Check the publisher’s current service schedule before purchasing, especially for an older annual release.
