The best backpack for carrying an iPad and laptop is one that fits both devices—with their cases on—in separate padded compartments. Manufacturer specifications offer several options, but they do not establish a tested overall winner. Measure your devices first, then choose a bag whose layout and features suit your commute, school day, or travel.
How to check whether both devices will fit
Do not rely on screen size alone. EVERKI’s product-fit guidance says a laptop’s screen size is not a good indicator of its actual dimensions. Measure each device’s width and height edge to edge, and its thickness at the thickest point. Include any protective case, and leave some clearance if a measurement is close to the compartment limit.
Compare those measurements with the backpack’s stated sleeve or compartment dimensions. If the maker gives only a screen-size limit, treat it as guidance rather than a guarantee: devices with the same screen size can have different outer dimensions. Also check whether the iPad has a keyboard case, which can change its fit.
Backpacks with separate laptop and iPad storage
These options are based on the manufacturers’ published specifications, not independent fit, comfort, durability, drop-protection, or water-resistance tests. Check the exact model version and current listing before buying.

For travel or a changing load
A luggage strap can make it easier to secure a backpack to a suitcase handle. The Zenith and Paramount list luggage straps; the Paramount also has an expandable body, with stated dimensions of 48 × 30 × 20–28 cm. EVERKI ONE lists expandable capacity from 32 to 38 liters. Expansion can add room for other belongings, but it does not change the device sleeve’s stated maximum dimensions.

Measure the iPad with its keyboard or protective case attached, rather than assuming it fits because the screen size is within the listed limit. The WaterField Tech Folio Backpack lists a tablet sleeve up to 13 × 8.75 inches and gives a 13-inch iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard as an example. The SCUF Loadout is described as having an accessory-focused, gaming-oriented layout; its listing gives a laptop screen-size limit rather than exact sleeve dimensions.

What the specifications can—and cannot—tell you
A separate padded sleeve keeps the tablet and laptop in distinct spaces, which can help prevent them from rubbing directly against each other. A floating or suspended laptop sleeve, such as the one described for EVERKI ONE, is a construction feature; the maker’s description alone does not establish protection in a fall. Padding claims likewise do not substitute for an independent drop test.
Water-resistant materials or finishes are not the same as a waterproof guarantee. The cited product pages describe water resistance for the Thule Paramount 24L, Zenith, and Paramount, but the available specifications do not establish performance under a particular amount of rain or a controlled water test. Check whether a rain cover is included if you need one; the cited specifications do not establish that one is included.

Comfort also depends on how the loaded bag fits your body. Capacity, organization, and quick-access features matter only if they match what you actually carry.
