The best Apple HomeView alternative depends on what you need to replace. Choose the Amazon Echo Show 8 (4th Gen) if you want a ready-to-use screen and voice control, Home Assistant if you need a flexible software layer across brands and assistants, or Homey Pro if you want a dedicated hub for multiple wireless protocols. Apple HomePod (2nd Gen) and Google Nest Hub Max make sense when your household already lives in one of those ecosystems.
None is a feature-for-feature copy of HomeView. Before buying, match the alternative to your existing lights, cameras, locks, thermostats, routines, wireless protocols, account requirements, and region.
Quick comparison: which HomeView alternative fits?
| Option | Best for | Interface | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Amazon Echo Show 8 (4th Gen) | A compact, ready-made display with voice control | Touchscreen, Alexa voice control, mobile app | Whether your devices, routines, cameras, and preferred integrations work with Alexa |
| Home Assistant | Cross-brand control and highly customizable automations | Phone, web, and configurable dashboards; voice assistants can be added | Hardware for hosting, integration support, maintenance, and the features exposed to each assistant |
| Homey Pro | A dedicated hub for households using several protocols | Mobile and web apps, automations, and hub-based control | The exact model, regional restrictions, and whether your accessories use supported protocols |
| Apple HomePod (2nd Gen) | Keeping Apple Home while adding a hub and voice control | Siri voice control, Apple Home app | It is not a screen replacement for HomeView |
| Google Nest Hub Max | Google Home and Nest households that want a display | Touchscreen, Google Assistant, Google Home app | Compatibility with your existing devices and the current product lineup |
Tom’s Guide’s 2026 smart-home hub guide names the Echo Show 8 (4th Gen) its best overall smart-home hub pick. That is an editorial recommendation, not a guarantee that every accessory will work. Home Assistant and Homey Pro solve a different problem: they are software-and-hub platforms rather than direct substitutes for a shared wall or tabletop display.
What Apple HomeView does
Apple announced HomeView on October 13, 2026, as a shared household display for communication, entertainment, and smart-home control. It has a 7-inch Liquid Retina touchscreen and Siri AI voice control. The Home Modular face provides quick access to favorite accessories, while the Home Camera face can show up to nine video feeds at once. Apple says users can view camera feeds, adjust lights and thermostats, lock doors, and close blinds.

HomeView is designed to work with Apple Home Collection, Works with Apple Home, and Matter accessories, subject to the compatibility of each accessory. Matter support does not mean that every device exposes every feature in Apple Home or that automations behave identically across platforms.
Price, dates, and supported markets
Apple’s announcement lists a U.S. price of $299 for both the tabletop and wall-mounted models. That is the launch-announcement price and can change. U.S. preorders opened October 13, with availability announced for November 13, 2026. The same preorder and availability dates were announced for Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. Singapore preorders were announced for October 15, also with November 13 availability. In South Africa, Apple announced availability through authorized resellers beginning November 13.
Apple said HomeView was not available for sale in the European Union at launch because Siri AI was unavailable in iOS there. Check Apple’s current store and local support information before ordering because regional availability and feature support can change.

Setup and multiuser support require a compatible iPhone or iPad running the latest software. Siri AI on HomeView is available in English in the United States, Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, and the United Kingdom. Apple says Canadian French support is planned later. Some camera summaries require an eligible iCloud+ plan and a compatible camera setup, so the advertised hardware price is not necessarily the total cost of the experience.
Choose by the ecosystem already in your home
The quickest way to avoid a disappointing purchase is to inventory your current home before comparing screens. Write down the brands and exact models of your cameras, locks, thermostats, lights, sensors, plugs, and doorbells. Then identify where your routines currently run: Apple Home, Alexa, Google Home, Home Assistant, or another hub.
If most devices are already in Apple Home
HomePod (2nd Gen), HomePod mini, Apple TV 4K, and HomeView can expand the Apple Home experience without requiring you to abandon the Home app. A HomePod is a voice-and-audio hub, not a touchscreen replacement, so it is the better alternative only when voice control is sufficient or you already use an iPhone or iPad for visual control.
Home Assistant can also complement Apple Home. Devices that Apple Home does not support directly may appear in the Home app after you add them to Home Assistant and expose them through the relevant integration. This approach preserves familiar Apple scenes while adding a separate compatibility layer.

If the household uses Alexa
The Echo Show 8 (4th Gen) is the closest physical-format alternative in this list: a compact display with touch controls, voice interaction, and Alexa device control. It is practical for a kitchen counter, desk, or communal room, but its behavior depends on Alexa support for each accessory and service. Re-create important routines after migration rather than assuming an Apple scene maps one-to-one to Alexa.
If the household uses Google Home and Nest
Tom’s Guide identifies the Google Nest Hub Max as a Google Home display option for households already using Nest products. It is aimed at homes that want a screen for cameras, video calls, and media as well as controls. Confirm the current model, regional availability, and support for your exact accessories before purchase.
If the household mixes many brands
Home Assistant is usually the most adaptable starting point when no single assistant supports everything you own. Homey Pro is another option when you prefer a packaged hub with protocol support rather than assembling and maintaining a software server. In either case, confirm that the integration exposes the controls you actually need—such as lock status, thermostat modes, camera events, or blind position—not merely that the product appears on a compatibility list.
Amazon Echo Show 8 (4th Gen): best ready-made display alternative
Choose the Echo Show 8 (4th Gen) when the defining HomeView feature for you is a visible, shared control point with voice input. Its compact screen is suited to a bedside table, kitchen, or hallway, and Alexa can control compatible lights, plugs, thermostats, cameras, and routines. Tom’s Guide’s 2026 guide recommends it as the best overall smart-home hub, citing its screen, Alexa control, and setup experience.

Where it fits well
- You want a physical display rather than a phone-only dashboard.
- Most of your devices already support Alexa.
- You prefer guided setup over building a server or integrating several hubs.
- You want one device to combine household controls with media and general Alexa functions.
What it does not replicate
The Echo Show 8 is not an Apple Home display and does not automatically import Apple Home scenes, permissions, or accessory behavior. Alexa’s device model, camera views, voice responses, and privacy controls differ from Siri and Apple Home. Check every critical device and routine in Alexa’s supported integrations before switching.
Migration checklist
- List the devices and routines that must work on day one.
- Check each manufacturer’s Alexa compatibility and required skill or account.
- Install the Alexa app, add the Echo Show, and place it where the household can hear and see it.
- Add devices in small groups, assigning unambiguous room names.
- Rebuild scenes as Alexa routines and test them from the display and by voice.
- Review camera permissions, voice recordings, household profiles, and purchasing settings before handing the device to everyone in the home.
Home Assistant: best flexible software layer
Home Assistant is software, not a ready-made wall display. It is the strongest choice when you want one control layer for devices from several manufacturers, detailed dashboards, and automations that are not limited to a single assistant. Its official FAQ says it can work alongside Apple Home, Google Home, and Amazon Alexa.
How it can complement Apple Home
You do not have to choose between Home Assistant and Apple Home. Add a device to Home Assistant through the appropriate integration, then expose the supported entities to Apple Home. The result can be an Apple Home interface for everyday use, with Home Assistant handling a device or automation that Apple does not support directly.

- Powered by SmartThings: Connect, monitor, and automate your home through the SmartThings app. Build a reliable, unified smart home using Samsung's proven ecosystem
- Matter + Zigbee Smart Home Hub: Supports the newest Matter standard plus Zigbee for lighting, sensors, plugs, switches, thermostats, and more - thousands of compatible devices. PLEASE NOTE: Z-Wave not supported
- Easy Setup with Wi-Fi or Ethernet: Get started in minutes using Wi-Fi or a wired Ethernet connection for apartments, houses, and expanding smart home systems - Z-Wave not supported
- Automations That Work for You: Create custom routines for security, lighting, comfort, and energy savings. Many local automations continue working even if your internet goes offline
- Wide Device Compatibility: Connect compatible smart devices from Aeotec and many other brands to build a unified system for lighting, voice control, energy management, and climate settings
That bridge has boundaries. A device may expose only some controls, and an automation built in Home Assistant may not have an equivalent Apple Home trigger. Verify the entity types, state reporting, and commands you need instead of assuming full parity.

1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteStrengths and trade-offs
| Strength | Trade-off |
|---|---|
| Broad integration choices across manufacturers | You must choose hosting hardware and keep the system maintained |
| Custom dashboards for phones, tablets, or wall panels | Dashboard design and permissions require your own setup |
| Can coexist with Apple Home, Google Home, and Alexa | Each assistant exposes only the devices and features its integration supports |
| Detailed automations and conditions | Complex automations take longer to troubleshoot than simple scenes |
A sensible starting procedure
- Install Home Assistant on supported hardware and connect it to your home network.
- Add one integration for a device category you currently cannot control reliably.
- Confirm that states update correctly and that commands work from the Home Assistant dashboard.
- Expose only the entities needed in Apple Home, Google Home, or Alexa.
- Build one automation, document its trigger and conditions, and test it at different times of day.
- Back up the configuration before adding more integrations or changing network equipment.
Home Assistant is the better alternative when flexibility matters more than instant setup. It is a poor fit if you want a sealed appliance that requires no ongoing configuration.
Homey Pro: best dedicated multi-protocol hub
Homey Pro is a hub and automation platform for households whose accessories span protocols. Homey’s U.S. comparison lists Matter, Thread, Zigbee, and Z-Wave among the platform’s connectivity options, while also listing Homey Cloud, Homey Pro mini, and Homey Pro products with mobile and web apps. Connectivity and features vary by product, so the model name matters.
Why choose it
- You want a physical hub instead of hosting home-automation software yourself.
- Your devices use more than one protocol and you want a central automation platform.
- You prefer mobile and web control with hub-based flows.
- You are willing to verify regional and model-specific limitations before buying.
Important regional limitation
Homey’s comparison page notes that 433 MHz transmission is turned off on Homey Pro and Homey Bridge in the United States, Canada, and South Korea. If any existing sensor, remote, or actuator depends on that frequency, check whether it can be replaced or connected through another supported method.
What to check before ordering
- Identify the exact Homey model, not just the Homey brand.
- Match every accessory to the model’s supported protocol and regional radio behavior.
- Confirm whether the required app or integration is available in your country.
- Test critical flows—locks, heating, security alerts, and lighting—during the return period.
- Decide whether you need a display; Homey Pro itself is not a direct tabletop-screen substitute for HomeView.
Protocols and compatibility: Matter is not a universal guarantee
Matter can simplify onboarding across ecosystems, but the Matter label alone does not establish identical behavior everywhere. A light may expose on/off and brightness while omitting a manufacturer-specific effect. A camera may be discoverable through one platform but lack the same live-view or recording features on another. Locks, alarms, and energy devices can also have platform-specific permissions and requirements.

| Device category | Questions to answer |
|---|---|
| Lights and plugs | Are on/off, dimming, color, energy readings, and groups supported? |
| Cameras and doorbells | Is live video available, and are recordings, notifications, or summaries supported? |
| Locks | Can the platform lock and unlock, report state, and enforce user permissions? |
| Thermostats | Are mode, setpoint, schedules, and sensors exposed? |
| Blinds and shades | Does the integration report position and support partial opening? |
| Sensors | Are occupancy, contact, temperature, and battery states available to automations? |
For each row, record the exact model, protocol, platform integration, required account, and the controls you need. This prevents a nominal compatibility match from becoming a failed migration.

The purchase price is only one part of the decision. HomeView’s announced U.S. price is $299 for either announced form factor, but setup requires a current iPhone or iPad, and some camera summaries require an eligible iCloud+ plan. Echo Show, Home Assistant, and Homey Pro have their own account, hosting, subscription, or accessory requirements. Privacy, regional availability, and household access
Shared displays change who can see cameras, unlock doors, change thermostats, or trigger routines. During setup, create household profiles deliberately, restrict sensitive accessories to appropriate users, and review voice-purchase and camera settings. A display in a common room should not automatically receive access to every private camera or security control.
Region affects both availability and capability. HomeView’s launch information excludes the European Union because Siri AI was unavailable in iOS there, and its English Siri AI support is limited to the countries Apple listed. Homey documents a 433 MHz restriction in three countries. Alexa, Google Home, and individual device integrations can also vary by country. Treat a compatibility statement from another market as a lead to verify, not a promise.

Common failure modes and fixes
A device appears but important controls are missing
Check the exact model and integration, then compare the exposed controls with the device manufacturer’s requirements. If the platform exposes only basic Matter functions, use the manufacturer’s integration or a bridge such as Home Assistant when appropriate.
Automations work manually but not on schedule
Check the hub’s time zone, the device’s reported state, and whether the automation depends on a cloud service. Simplify the rule to one trigger and one action, test it, then add conditions one at a time.
Cameras show a blank view or no history
Verify account permissions, camera sharing, network reachability, and any plan requirement. HomeView’s camera summaries, for example, require an eligible iCloud+ plan and compatible setup; a basic live feed and a summary feature are not the same capability.
Voice commands trigger the wrong room or device
Use unique names, assign devices to the correct rooms, and remove duplicate entries after a migration. Test the spoken command from the location where household members will actually use it.
A protocol-dependent accessory will not pair
Confirm that the hub model includes the required radio, that the protocol is enabled in your region, and that the accessory is within range. Homey’s documented 433 MHz restriction in the United States, Canada, and South Korea is an example of why regional radio support must be checked before purchase.
How to make the final choice
- Need a screen today? Start with Echo Show 8 (4th Gen) for Alexa households or Google Nest Hub Max for Google Home and Nest households.
- Need to stay in Apple Home? Add HomePod or another Apple home hub if voice control is enough; use Home Assistant when you need devices Apple Home does not support directly.
- Need cross-brand flexibility? Choose Home Assistant if you accept software maintenance and want maximum customization.
- Need a packaged hub for several protocols? Evaluate the exact Homey Pro model against your devices, region, and required radios.
- Need cameras, locks, or security automations? Verify those exact functions before considering display size, industrial design, or voice-assistant preference.
- Need a shared household interface? Compare user profiles, permissions, camera privacy, and room naming—not just the number of supported devices.
For most readers replacing the idea of a shared HomeView control point, the Echo Show 8 (4th Gen) is the most direct alternative. For a mixed-brand home where compatibility and automation depth matter more than a built-in screen, Home Assistant is the more capable foundation. Homey Pro is the practical middle ground when you want a dedicated hub and broader protocol coverage. Apple and Google ecosystem options are sensible when minimizing migration is the priority.
