For a documented DIY desktop APU, the Ryzen 7 8700G is the strongest specification-based pick in AMD’s Ryzen 8000G lineup: it combines 8 cores and 16 threads with Radeon 780M integrated graphics. AMD’s newer Ryzen AI 400 desktop processors are a separate option, announced for AM5 systems from OEMs such as HP and Lenovo, with availability expected from Q2 2026. That announcement does not confirm current stock or a boxed DIY release, so check for an actual system listing before treating one as a current buy.

Best AMD Ryzen APU in 2026: the picks

  • Best documented DIY pick: Ryzen 7 8700G. Its 8-core, 16-thread CPU and Radeon 780M make it the top 8000G-series choice on AMD’s published specifications. This is a specification-based recommendation, not a measured head-to-head gaming result.
  • Lower-cost 8000G option: Ryzen 5 8600G. It has 6 cores, 12 threads and Radeon 760M graphics. AMD’s $229 suggested price was its 2024 launch price, not a current street price.
  • Entry-tier 8000G option: Ryzen 5 8500G. It pairs a 6-core, 12-thread CPU with Radeon 740M graphics; AMD’s overview says it lacks Ryzen AI.
  • Newer OEM-system option: Ryzen AI 400. AMD announced AM5 desktop models including the Ryzen AI 7 450G, but its Q2 2026 timing was an expectation for OEM systems, not confirmation that a system is available now.

How the Ryzen APU options compare

AMD described the Ryzen 8000G family as Zen 4 desktop processors for AM5. Ryzen AI 400 is a distinct 2026 desktop announcement with G models rated at 65W and GE models rated at 35W. The table separates the documented 8000G DIY route from the announced OEM route.

AMD’s 2024 claim that the 8700G had “the fastest built-in graphics you can get in a desktop processor” was AMD’s own comparison at announcement, not an independently verified current ranking. The specifications above identify product tiers; they do not establish relative frame rates.

Which Ryzen APU has the best integrated graphics?

Among the listed 8000G models, the Ryzen 7 8700G has the highest graphics tier, Radeon 780M. The Ryzen AI 7 450G’s Radeon 860M is part of a newer announced family, but the available announcement details do not provide independent comparative gaming results against the 8700G. A newer model name or graphics specification alone is not proof of a gaming win.

Which APU should you choose?

Choose the Ryzen 7 8700G for a DIY build without a graphics card

It is the clearest choice in this lineup when you want a documented DIY desktop processor and the strongest published 8000G graphics tier. AMD lists 8 cores, 16 threads, Radeon 780M graphics, 24MB total cache and a 65W TDP. Its 5.1 GHz boost figure is listed in AMD’s product information. AMD’s $329 suggested launch price dates to 2024; compare live local pricing rather than using it as a current quote. [AMD Ryzen 7 8700G specifications]

  • 4.6 GHz Max Boost, unlocked for overclocking, 20 MB cache, DDR4-3200 support
  • For the advanced Socket AM4 platform. Maximum Operating Temperature (Tjmax)-95°C

Choose the Ryzen 5 8600G if its lower tier fits your workload and budget

The 8600G has a 6-core, 12-thread CPU, Radeon 760M graphics, 22MB total cache and a 65W TDP. It is a reasonable step down on AMD’s published specifications from the 8700G; whether it is the better value depends on the current price and the games or applications you intend to run. Its $229 figure was AMD’s suggested 2024 launch price, not a verified 2026 retail price. [AMD Ryzen 5 8600G specifications]

Consider the Ryzen 5 8500G for an entry-tier integrated-graphics build

AMD lists 6 cores, 12 threads, Radeon 740M graphics, 22MB total cache and a 65W TDP. AMD’s overview says it does not include Ryzen AI. Confirm the processor’s current price and availability in your market before comparing it with the 8600G or other CPUs. [AMD Ryzen desktop processor overview]

Consider Ryzen AI 400 only when there is a real OEM system to buy

Ryzen AI 400 is relevant if you want a newer AM5 desktop system and value the announced NPU capability. AMD described Ryzen AI 400 as designed to power new Copilot+ experiences on desktop, and lists up to 50 TOPS for the Ryzen AI 7 450G. Check the exact OEM configuration, price and availability; the announcement’s Q2 2026 forecast does not verify that a particular system is on sale. [AMD Ryzen AI 400 announcement]

If you will install a discrete graphics card immediately

Do not pay a premium solely for an APU’s integrated graphics if you will not use them. The specifications here do not establish which non-APU processor offers better value at current prices, so compare the complete CPU-and-GPU build at the prices available to you.

What to check before buying

  • Buying route: The 8000G processors are documented DIY desktop options; Ryzen AI 400 was announced through OEM AM5 systems. Confirm the product is sold through the route you need.
  • Actual system price and stock: Launch suggested prices are historical, and no current street prices or inventory are established here.
  • Workload fit: Compare CPU core and thread counts as well as graphics tier. A higher graphics tier is not a guarantee that a specific game will run at your preferred resolution and settings.
  • Memory and full configuration: Check the memory and system configuration in any gaming benchmark you rely on; the specifications alone do not predict exact frame rates.
  • NPU relevance: For Ryzen AI 400, decide whether the system’s NPU features matter to your software and use. An NPU rating is not a substitute for checking app support or the complete system listing.
