If you want live MLB scores and a place to talk about the game, Fanarchy is the closest all-in-one fit among the options covered here: it describes real-time game threads, play-by-play, and team communities. Reddit’s MLB Scores pairs scoreboard tools with subreddit discussions, though each community’s setup depends on its moderators. For following scores rather than joining a conversation, Apple Sports and the official MLB app offer stronger score-focused tools.
Which alternative fits what you want to do?
A live scoreboard and a live fan community solve different problems. Some apps put discussion beside the game; others focus on scores and game details, without documenting a built-in fan conversation feature. Choose based on whether you want to talk with other fans, follow the action, or watch or listen as well.
| Option | Live game detail | Fan discussion | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fanarchy | Its product site describes live scores and play-by-play; its App Store listing documents live box scores. | Team communities and live game threads with fan discussion. | Fans who want scores and conversation together. |
| Reddit MLB Scores | Scoreboard with live scorebugs; game views can include linescore, box score, plays, and win probability. | Game threads within subreddits; moderators configure the app. | Fans who already use Reddit or prefer subreddit communities. |
| Apple Sports | Real-time scores, play-by-play updates, team stats, and lineup details. | Discussion features are not described in Apple’s cited guide. | Apple users who mainly want quick score tracking. |
| MLB app | Free scoreboard and Live Activities; Gameday adds pitch, hit, and play detail with 3D visualizations. | Discussion features are not described in Apple’s cited guide. | Fans who want official game information, or may also want paid audio or video. |
These descriptions come from the products’ publishers, not an even hands-on comparison. They do not establish which app loads fastest, has the most active fan base, or provides the best notification controls.

#1 Best Overall
- MANAGE STATS & SCORING: Includes scoring sheets for 28 games to help keep track of player performance and scoring
- MULTI-PLAYER: Each game sheet includes 18 player spaces per team to allow for substitutions.
- INCLUDED: The pack comes with scoring instructions and line-up cards to help guide you through the game
- CONSTRUCTION: Heavy-duty cardstock backing
Fanarchy says it is independent and not affiliated with Major League Baseball, its teams, or players. Its claims about features and speed are vendor descriptions, not independently measured results. Check current platform availability and listing details before installing.
Reddit MLB Scores: scoreboard tools inside subreddit communities
Reddit’s MLB Scores app page describes an all-games scoreboard with live scorebugs and game threads. A game view can include a linescore, box score, plays, and win probability. The key trade-off is setup: subreddit moderators configure the app, so whether a community uses it—and exactly how it works—varies by subreddit. Details are on the MLB Scores page.

- 25 GAME SCOREBOOK: This scorebook comes with clean, easy-to-follow lineup sheets that you can use to keep track of lineups, stats, scores and more for 25 games
- SIMPLE DESIGN: Each sheet is printed with an easy to follow, simple layout that makes scoring a breeze

- 16 PERSON LINEUP: Each sheet comes with 16 lineup spots to keep track of the bench or any extra hitters in the lineup
- TEAM ROSTER SHEET: This book includes a back cover team roster page to keep track of all the players on the roster as well as important contact info
Reddit’s MLB Dinger documentation says the tool uses public MLB-hosted schedules, scores, plays, statistics, and baseball assets. It also notes that live information may occasionally be delayed or corrected by the source. Treat a displayed update as useful live context, not a guarantee that every play appears instantly or without later correction.
Apple Sports: a score-first choice for Apple users
Apple’s MLB guide describes Apple Sports as providing real-time scores, play-by-play updates, team stats, and lineup details. The guide presents it within Apple’s ecosystem and does not describe fan discussion features. It is therefore a reasonable choice when your priority is following the game, but not a documented replacement for a social feed or game-thread community.

MLB app: official game detail, with paid viewing options
Apple’s MLB guide says the official MLB app’s free tier includes a redesigned scoreboard and Live Activities. Its Gameday view follows pitches, hits, and plays with 3D visualizations and additional data. The same guide describes MLB+ and MLB.TV as paid subscriptions for live video or audio offerings. Those are options if you want to watch or listen, but a subscription does not, by itself, meet the need for fan discussion.
How to choose without conflating scores and discussion
- Choose Fanarchy if you want an MLB-focused feed where game threads, team communities, scores, and play-by-play are presented together.
- Choose Reddit MLB Scores if you want subreddit-based conversation alongside scoreboard views and are comfortable with community-by-community configuration.
- Choose Apple Sports if score updates and game details matter more than built-in fan discussion and you use Apple’s ecosystem.
- Choose the MLB app if official Gameday detail is important, or if you may want its separately paid live audio or video offerings.
Before switching, check the current app listing and your preferred team’s community. Feature availability, moderator setup, and subscription terms can change, and the cited descriptions do not establish uniform device or regional availability across all four options.

What other fans report about score apps
In a March 2026 r/baseball thread, the opening complaint was that following games in the MLB app involved extra navigation steps. One commenter recommended Apple Sports for live scores and standings; another said ESPN or MLB suited deeper information. A separate commenter said ESPN’s scoreboard showed the information they wanted and loaded faster. These are individual experiences, not measured comparisons, and may depend on app versions and personal preferences.
