If battery life matters more than an ultra-thin design, the OnePlus 13, iPhone 17 Pro Max and Samsung Galaxy S25 Plus are stronger starting points. In Tom’s Guide’s cellular web-browsing test, they lasted 19 hours 45 minutes, 17 hours 54 minutes and 16 hours 55 minutes, respectively—well ahead of the iPhone Air and Galaxy S25 Edge in the same comparison. These are controlled test results, not guarantees of how long a phone will last in your day-to-day use.
Which alternatives last longest in the same test?
Tom’s Guide tested phones by continuously surfing the web over a cellular connection at 150 nits of screen brightness until each phone shut down. That gives a useful like-for-like comparison, though it cannot represent every combination of calls, video, games, camera use and poor signal.
| Phone | Tom’s Guide cellular web test | Practical takeaway |
|---|---|---|
| OnePlus 13 | 19 hours 45 minutes | Longest result among the phones listed here. |
| iPhone 17 Pro Max | 17 hours 54 minutes | Longest-running iOS option in this comparison. |
| Samsung Galaxy S25 Plus | 16 hours 55 minutes | A strong Android alternative to an ultra-thin phone. |
| iPhone 17 Pro | 15 hours 32 minutes | Lasted longer than either thin model in the comparison. |
| Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge | 12 hours 38 minutes in Tom’s Guide’s comparison table | Roughly a 12-hour result; a separate same-day test reported a different figure. |
| iPhone Air | 12 hours 2 minutes | Conveniently thin, but behind the battery-first options in this test. |
Results and test method: Tom’s Guide’s iPhone 17 battery comparison. The Galaxy S25 Edge figure needs context: its comparison table lists 12 hours 38 minutes, while Tom’s Guide’s iPhone Air test reports 11 hours 48 minutes for the Edge in a same-day test with the Air. Those figures come from different reported contexts, so they should not be treated as interchangeable.

Which phone should you choose?
Choose the OnePlus 13 for the strongest result in this comparison
At 19 hours 45 minutes in Tom’s Guide’s test, the OnePlus 13 had the longest measured runtime among these options. It runs Android, so it suits someone willing to move away from the very thin form factor and who does not need to stay in Apple’s iOS ecosystem.

Choose the iPhone 17 Pro Max for iOS and longer endurance
The iPhone 17 Pro Max recorded 17 hours 54 minutes in the same comparison. It is the iOS choice among the leading battery-first alternatives; its result was 5 hours 52 minutes longer than the iPhone Air’s 12 hours 2 minutes in that test.
Consider the Galaxy S25 Plus for an Android alternative
The Galaxy S25 Plus lasted 16 hours 55 minutes in the comparison, placing it between the OnePlus 13 and iPhone 17 Pro Max. It is another option to consider if you want a Samsung phone but prioritize endurance over the Galaxy S25 Edge’s thinner design.
Consider the iPhone 17 Pro if you want a smaller step up from the Air
The iPhone 17 Pro recorded 15 hours 32 minutes. That is less than the Pro Max result, but more than either thin model’s result in the comparison. Decide how much phone size and weight you are willing to accept alongside the extra tested runtime.

What do the thin designs trade for portability?
TechRadar lists the iPhone Air at 5.6 mm thick and 165 g, and the Galaxy S25 Edge at 5.8 mm and 163 g. For context, TechRadar lists the Tecno Spark Slim at 6 mm and 156 g. These figures describe listed dimensions and weights, not battery performance.
The battery-capacity figures also illustrate why thinness alone does not tell you how long a phone will last. TechRadar lists the Galaxy S25 Edge with a 3,900 mAh battery and the Tecno Spark Slim with a stated 5,160 mAh battery. The iPhone Air’s 3,149 mAh figure is an unofficial estimate, not a capacity Apple confirms on its specification page. Battery capacity is only one factor; the comparison above measures how long each phone lasted in a particular test.
TechRadar describes the Tecno Spark Slim as having 45 W wired charging, but says availability is extremely limited and it will not be available in most Western markets. Treat it as a possible regional option, and check local availability before choosing it over broadly considered alternatives. Details on thin-phone dimensions, listed capacities and availability: TechRadar’s comparison of the iPhone Air, Galaxy S25 Edge and Tecno Spark Slim.

How should you compare battery claims?
Keep the measurement type attached to every runtime number. A continuous cellular-browsing test, a streaming exercise and a manufacturer’s playback estimate answer different questions; they should not be ranked as if they were one test.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Cellular web browsing: Tom’s Guide’s comparison uses continuous web surfing over cellular at 150 nits until shutdown. It is useful for comparing the phones tested under that method, but does not predict every person’s mixed use.
- Streaming: In Tom’s Guide’s five-hour streaming-video exercise, the iPhone Air retained 81% battery and the Galaxy S25 Edge retained 67%. These are partial-test results, not measured full-charge runtimes.
- Apple playback estimates: Apple lists up to 27 hours of local video playback and up to 22 hours of streamed video playback for iPhone Air under its stated conditions. These manufacturer estimates are not directly comparable with Tom’s Guide’s cellular-browsing test. See Apple’s iPhone Air technical specifications.
Can an iPhone Air battery accessory close the gap?
If you prefer the iPhone Air, Apple’s Air-specific MagSafe Battery is one way to carry additional power. Tom’s Guide reports 17 hours 15 minutes for its test setup with the accessory attached, and notes Apple’s claim that it adds 65% charge. That setup result is not a direct substitute for the standalone phone results: the accessory adds carrying bulk, which gives up some of the portability that makes an ultra-thin phone appealing.
Quick Recap
Make the choice around your daily priorities
- For the longest result in this comparison: start with the OnePlus 13.
- To remain with iOS: compare the iPhone 17 Pro Max with the iPhone 17 Pro, based on how much phone size you accept.
- For Android from Samsung: the Galaxy S25 Plus lasted longer than the S25 Edge in Tom’s Guide’s comparison table.
- If thinness is still essential: the Air and Edge offer that form factor, but their results in Tom’s Guide’s comparison were around 12 hours.
- Before buying: check current specifications for the features you need—especially camera flexibility, charging and local availability—rather than assuming one battery result settles every phone trade-off.
