The best alternative depends on whether you want to keep the Withings Sleep Analyzer’s no-wearable convenience or switch to a ring, watch, or phone app. For a similar in-bed setup, compare under-mattress and bedside monitors; for more health and activity data, consider a wearable such as Oura, Apple Watch, or Samsung Galaxy Ring. None should be treated as a clinical sleep study.
How to choose a Withings Sleep Analyzer alternative
The Withings Sleep Analyzer tracks from the bed, so the first decision is whether you want to keep that form factor. A ring or watch can provide sleep estimates alongside other body or activity metrics, but you must wear and charge it. A mattress or bedside monitor avoids wearable hardware, though its placement and sensing setup differ. A phone app is a lower-commitment starting point, with its own setup and measurement limits.
- Want nothing on your body? Look first at another under-mattress or bedside monitor.
- Want sleep plus broader health trends? Consider a ring or smartwatch that fits your phone and app ecosystem.
- Want to try tracking before buying hardware? A phone app may be an option, but check its placement and permission requirements.
- Want to investigate a sleep problem? Treat consumer data as context, not as a diagnosis or substitute for clinical evaluation.
Alternatives by form factor
Oura Ring 4: a ring for sleep and broader trends
Oura Ring 4 is a strong fit if you are comfortable sleeping with a ring and want sleep estimates alongside broader health trends. A current roundup includes it among sleep trackers tested (Tom’s Guide sleep tracker roundup). Before choosing it, check fit and comfort, charging, the upfront price, and the current membership terms; these can change and are model- and region-dependent. Its sleep stages are estimates, not a definitive measurement of how much deep or REM sleep you had.
Apple Watch: practical for an existing iPhone user
An Apple Watch makes the most sense when you already use an iPhone and want sleep tracking as one part of a general-purpose smartwatch. Current buying guides list it as an iPhone-oriented option (TechRadar sleep-tracker guide). Consider whether you will tolerate wearing a watch overnight, how its battery and charging routine fit your day, and which sleep features are available on the specific model. It is not a no-wearable replacement.

Samsung Galaxy Ring: a ring for Samsung Health users
Galaxy Ring may suit someone seeking ring-style tracking within Samsung Health. A current guide describes it as having no recurring subscription, but check the terms for your region and exact model before buying (TechRadar sleep-tracker guide). Sizing and fit matter for overnight comfort, and the feature set depends on the current product and software. Confirm that it works with your phone and preferred app.
Fitbit/Google or WHOOP: ecosystem and recovery context
Fitbit/Google devices and WHOOP are other wearable ecosystems to consider if their apps, activity features, or recovery context are a better match for your routine. Their models and service features differ, so check the specific device, subscription terms, and overnight comfort rather than assuming every product offers the same sleep functions. Performance evidence is device- and metric-specific; a brand-level label does not establish that one tracker is more accurate than another (Tom’s Guide sleep tracker roundup; TechRadar sleep-tracker guide).

Another under-mattress or bedside monitor: closest to no-wearable use
If wearing hardware in bed is the deal-breaker, another mattress-based or bedside sensor is the closest form-factor alternative. These products do not all sense sleep the same way, so check compatibility with your mattress, bed, room, app, and household setup. Beautyrest Sleeptracker Monitor appears in a guide as a budget alternative under evaluation, but that listing alone does not establish it as a settled recommendation (TechRadar sleep-tracker guide). A bedside monitor may also have different placement requirements from an under-mattress mat.

Phone-based app: a lower-commitment trial
A phone app can be a way to try basic sleep tracking without buying a ring or watch. Its results and setup depend on how the phone senses or records sleep, where it must be placed, and which microphone or sensor permissions it needs. Tom’s Guide reports specific setup constraints and mixed comparisons for SleepScore’s estimates of sleep duration and stages; that is one outlet’s test, not universal validation of phone-based tracking (Tom’s Guide SleepScore review).

Compare the trade-offs that affect everyday use
| Option | Best fit | Trade-offs to check |
|---|---|---|
| Oura Ring 4 | Ring wearers who want sleep and broader health trends | Fit and comfort, charging, upfront cost, current membership terms, and the limits of stage estimates. |
| Apple Watch | People already using an iPhone who want a general-purpose smartwatch | Overnight comfort, battery and charging routine, phone compatibility, and model-specific sleep features. |
| Samsung Galaxy Ring | People seeking a ring-style wearable aligned with Samsung Health | Phone and app compatibility, sizing, upfront cost, and exact current features and subscription terms. |
| Fitbit/Google or WHOOP | People who prefer those wearable apps or want activity and recovery context | Model-specific functions, service costs, fit, and device- and metric-specific performance. |
| Under-mattress or bedside monitor | People who do not want to wear a device in bed | Mattress, bed, room, app, placement, and household compatibility; sensing approaches differ. |
| Phone app | People who want to try basic tracking without dedicated hardware | Phone placement, charging, permissions, and variable estimates of duration and stages. |
Subscription costs, product availability, and supported features can change. Verify the exact model and terms in your region before purchase; a no-subscription claim about one ring does not apply to every product or plan.
What consumer sleep trackers can—and cannot—tell you
Wearables typically infer sleep from signals such as movement and heart rate. Mattress and bedside devices use different sensing approaches. A 2023 prospective multicenter validation study evaluated 11 commercial trackers: five wearables, three nearables, and three airables, including the Withings Sleep Tracking Mat (2023 validation study). The variety of devices and methods is one reason an overall “most accurate” ranking is not meaningful without specifying the metric, device generation, study population, and reference test.

A 2026 study compared Fitbit Sense 2, Oura Ring, Withings Sleep Mat, and SleepScore Max with polysomnography for one night in 32 adults: 13 aged 19–24 and 19 aged 56–80. The devices performed poorly at identifying individual sleep stages, particularly deep sleep, and agreement limits were generally wider in the older group (2026 SLEEP Advances study). In that study’s older group, mean total-sleep-time bias was −74.5 minutes for Fitbit, −75.5 minutes for Oura, −45.7 minutes for Withings, and −56.5 minutes for SleepScore Max. Those are group-level results from one study night, not a prediction of the error for an individual using a device at home.
A separate 2024 study compared Oura Ring Gen3, Fitbit Sense 2, and Apple Watch Series 8 with polysomnography for one night in 35 healthy adults. Its findings also show why stage-level results vary across devices and metrics rather than supporting a single accuracy winner (2024 wearable accuracy study).

As the Associated Press reported, Daniel Forger, a University of Michigan professor who researches sleep wearables, said: “If you really want to know definitively how much non-REM sleep you’re having versus REM sleep, that’s where the in-lab studies really excel.” Neurologist and Morehouse School of Medicine professor Chantale Branson added: “Nor should any single night’s data be seen as significant.” In context, that cautions against treating one night’s tracker reading as a meaningful verdict on your sleep (Associated Press report).
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When to use a clinician instead of a tracker
Consumer trackers can help you notice patterns over time, such as changes in estimated sleep duration or regularity. They cannot identify the cause of poor sleep or establish a sleep disorder. If symptoms concern you, discuss them with a clinician; a tracker score may provide context, but it is not a clinical diagnosis (2026 SLEEP Advances study; Associated Press report).
