The Google Pixel 10a is the closest alternative to consider if you want a compact Android phone; the Samsung Galaxy A57 5G suits shoppers looking for a larger, thin mainstream model. But if you value a lighter body, headphone jack, or microSD slot, the Xperia 10 VIII itself has the clearest fit. These are comparisons of published specifications and launch information, not hands-on test verdicts.
Compare the three phones at a glance
| Phone | Published size and weight | Display | Storage and notable features |

| Google Pixel 10a | 153.9 × 73.0 × 9.0 mm; 183 g | 6.3-inch pOLED, 60–120 Hz | 128 GB or 256 GB; wireless charging; 5100 mAh battery |
| Samsung Galaxy A57 5G | 161.5 × 76.8 × 6.9 mm; 179 g | Not stated in the cited US launch announcement | US unlocked launch price: $549.99 |
Specifications are from Sony, Google, and Samsung. The Samsung details and price cited here are US-specific.
Which alternative is closest in size?
The Pixel 10a is close to the Xperia 10 VIII in height and width, but it is listed as 15 g heavier and has a slightly larger screen. Sony’s phone is the narrowest and lightest of the three by the published dimensions. The Galaxy A57 is 8.5 mm taller and 4.8 mm wider than the Xperia, so it is the less direct choice if minimizing phone size is your priority.
Dimensions do not establish how comfortable a phone feels in every hand. Sony lists a 6.1-inch 120 Hz display, while Google lists the Pixel 10a at 6.3 inches with a 60–120 Hz refresh rate. The cited specifications do not establish which screen looks better outdoors or offers better image quality.

Choose based on the features you need
Consider the Google Pixel 10a for a compact Android shortlist
The Pixel 10a offers a similarly compact footprint, 128 GB or 256 GB of storage, and wireless charging. Its published dimensions are close to the Xperia’s, though it is heavier and has a larger display. The cited specifications do not establish that it takes better photos or lasts longer on a charge than the Sony.
Consider the Samsung Galaxy A57 5G for a larger, thin phone
Samsung lists the Galaxy A57 at 6.9 mm thick and 179 g, with a taller and wider body than either the Xperia or Pixel. Samsung’s US launch announcement gave an unlocked starting price of $549.99 and said US sales would begin on 9 April 2026. Treat that as a US launch figure, not a current price or a price applicable elsewhere; check local availability and live offers.

Stay with the Xperia 10 VIII for its lighter body and specific hardware
Sony lists a 3.5 mm audio jack and microSD support, features that may matter if you use wired headphones or removable storage. It also lists a 168 g weight, the lowest of these three phones. Confirm the version sold in your region before relying on feature availability.
Price, battery, durability, and support
Sony announced launch prices of £549 in the UK and €599 for euro markets. Those are announced launch prices, not current retailer prices. Samsung’s $549.99 figure applies to the US unlocked Galaxy A57 launch. These amounts are for different markets and currencies, so they are not a direct price comparison. Check local pricing, stock, and network compatibility before buying.

Sony lists a 5000 mAh battery and claims “up to two days” of battery life subject to its stated usage conditions. Google lists a 5100 mAh battery and wireless charging. Battery capacity alone does not predict real-world endurance, and the cited material does not provide comparable battery testing.
Sony lists IPX5/IPX8 water resistance, IP6X dust proofing, up to four OS upgrades, and up to six years of security updates. Check the local terms and the support-period start date when comparing expected ownership life. Sony also says the Xperia 10 VIII’s display is approximately 50% brighter than its predecessor; that is the company’s comparison claim, not an independent measurement.

- Prefer a larger, thin mainstream phone and are shopping in the US? Compare the Galaxy A57 5G against current local offers.
