Samsung did not announce a base Galaxy Tab S12. Its September 30, 2026 launch introduced the Galaxy Tab S12+ and S12 Ultra, and Samsung US’s current tablet lineup lists those two S12 models—not a standard S12. If you want a smaller premium Samsung tablet, start with the Galaxy Tab S11; for a lower-cost tier aimed at everyday notes and productivity, consider the Galaxy Tab S10 FE. The older Galaxy Tab S10+ is an option if a larger AMOLED screen matters more than having the newest model.
Which one makes sense depends on your preferred screen size and panel, performance needs, local price and stock, and whether you need Wi-Fi or cellular connectivity. Prices and configurations vary by market, so check the listing in your country before buying.

Best compact premium alternative: Galaxy Tab S11
The Galaxy Tab S11 is the closest fit if you wanted a compact flagship Samsung tablet rather than one of the substantially larger S12 models. TechRadar describes an 11-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, 12GB of base RAM, and an included S Pen. That combination makes it the straightforward Samsung choice for premium note-taking, reading, and general tablet use without moving to the 12.6-inch S12+ or 14.6-inch S12 Ultra.

The trade-off is cost: TechRadar’s 2026 review listed starting prices of $899.99 in the US, £869 in the UK, and AU$1,399 in Australia. Those are review-time figures, not a live quote, and the model may cost differently or be harder to find in your market. Best lower-tier option for notes and everyday productivity: Galaxy Tab S10 FE
The Galaxy Tab S10 FE is worth considering if your main uses are notes, sketching, and ordinary productivity, and you do not need a flagship display or performance tier. TechRadar lists a 10.9-inch LCD, Samsung Exynos 1580 processor, and included S Pen. The LCD and lower-tier positioning make it a genuine step down from the S11’s AMOLED panel and premium class, not an equivalent substitute for a flagship.

If you want more screen area for documents, split-screen work, or media, Samsung US’s comparison page lists the Galaxy Tab S10+ with a 12.4-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display and an IP68 rating. It is an older model, so its suitability depends on whether you can find the right configuration at a sensible local price. Do not assume it remains in stock just because it appears on a comparison page.

Samsung US lists the newer S12+ at 12.6 inches with a Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel, so shoppers weighing these larger models should compare actual current prices, stock, and configurations rather than rely on screen size alone. Samsung’s lineup page is at samsung.com/us/tablets.
When to choose an S12+ or S12 Ultra instead
If you were searching for a base S12 because you want the newest generation, first decide whether one of the announced larger models suits your needs. Samsung’s September 30, 2026 announcement specifies a 12.6-inch display for the S12+ and a 14.6-inch display for the S12 Ultra. These are large-screen tablets, so they are not direct size replacements for an imagined compact base model.

Samsung specifies 10,600 mAh battery capacity and 45W charging for the S12+, and 11,600 mAh and 45W for the S12 Ultra. Samsung also claims up to 21 hours of video playback for the S12+ and up to 23 hours for the Ultra; these are manufacturer claims, not independent test results. - Choose the S11 if you want a compact, premium Samsung tablet with an AMOLED screen and included S Pen, and its current local price fits your budget.
- Choose the S10 FE if an LCD and lower performance tier are acceptable for your notes, sketches, and everyday productivity needs.
- Consider the S10+ if you want a larger premium screen and can verify that the older model is available at a price you consider worthwhile.
- Consider the S12+ or S12 Ultra if you specifically want the newest S12 generation and are comfortable with a 12.6-inch or 14.6-inch tablet, respectively.
Before ordering, check the exact model and configuration, including storage, Wi-Fi versus cellular, and what accessories are included. Samsung’s September 2026 announcement says an S Pen comes with the S12 models; TechRadar reports one is included with the S11 and S10 FE. If you add a keyboard cover, case, or screen protector, verify that it is made for the exact tablet model—accessories for one Galaxy Tab generation should not be assumed to fit another.
