The closest evidence-backed alternatives to the Huawei Mate 90 Pro Max are the Huawei Pura 90s Pro Max, Oppo Find X9 Ultra and Xiaomi 17 Ultra. Each offers a different camera proposition, but the available reviews do not directly compare any of them with the Mate 90 Pro Max, so there is no substantiated overall winner. Your best choice depends on which focal lengths you use, how you feel about each phone’s image processing, software and regional availability.
What the Mate 90 Pro Max offers photographers
Huawei’s China-market specification page lists a rear camera array with a 50 MP main camera, 40 MP ultrawide and 200 MP telephoto. The main camera has optical image stabilization and a variable f/1.4–f/4.0 aperture; the telephoto has optical stabilization, an f/2.6 aperture, telephoto macro capability and an RYYB sensor. Huawei lists equivalent focal lengths of 24 mm, 13 mm and 89 mm, with approximately 4× optical zoom, 8× optical-quality zoom and up to 100× digital zoom. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent image-quality test results. Huawei’s Mate 90 Pro Max specifications
Huawei also advertises 18 EV dynamic range for the main camera and a third-generation Red Maple color camera. Those are Huawei’s claims, not independently verified comparative findings. Huawei’s official product page

Huawei describes a separately sold Z10 modular camera with a 1-inch sensor, a 24–240 mm range and 10× continuous optical zoom. The company says its photography and video features require the Mate 90 Pro Max Collector’s Edition. Buyers of the standard model should not assume the module is compatible. The strongest alternatives supported by available reviews
Huawei Pura 90s Pro Max: closest same-brand camera proposition
The Pura 90s Pro Max is the most directly aligned same-brand candidate in the available material. Huawei’s Kuwait page promotes a 200 MP telephoto, and Digital Camera World describes the reviewed phone as having a 200 MP periscope telephoto with a 1/1.28-inch sensor, a 50 MP main camera with a physical variable aperture and a 40 MP ultrawide. The review praises its camera output but flags excessive HDR, sharpening and digital artifacts. It also notes software and Google-integration compromises on its global review unit. Those observations apply to that review unit; check the regional version you can buy. Huawei’s Kuwait page · Digital Camera World’s Pura 90s Pro Max review
Consider it if you want a Huawei camera experience with a large-sensor, high-resolution telephoto. Examine sample images for the processing issues the review identifies, especially if you prefer restrained sharpening and HDR.

Oppo Find X9 Ultra: a broader photography feature set
Digital Camera World names the Oppo Find X9 Ultra as an alternative and describes it as the more complete photography flagship, citing a five-camera Hasselblad system, focal-length coverage that includes a genuine 10× telephoto, a more customizable Master Mode and stronger video features. That review does not compare the Oppo directly with the Mate 90 Pro Max. Confirm the exact model, software and availability in your country before choosing it. Digital Camera World’s alternatives discussion
It is the candidate to investigate if optical reach, manual control or video features matter as much as still photography. The available evidence supports those as review observations, not a measured win over Huawei.

Xiaomi 17 Ultra: large main sensor and a zooming telephoto
Digital Camera World describes the Xiaomi 17 Ultra as pairing a 1-inch main sensor with a 200 MP mechanically zooming telephoto, and says it offers Leica Authentic and Vibrant color profiles. The review also reports white-balance variation between cameras and imperfections in the telephoto system. It says the phone is officially available in more Western markets with Google services, but availability and regional variants can change; verify local listings. Digital Camera World’s alternatives discussion
Look at this model if its main-sensor and zoom design, Leica profiles or Google-services fit your priorities. The reported camera inconsistencies are worth checking in sample images rather than assuming every lens will render color identically.

How to choose between the alternatives
Use the same kinds of scenes and focal lengths when comparing sample photos. Megapixel counts and advertised zoom ranges do not establish which phone produces better images.
- Focal-length coverage: Check each phone’s native camera focal lengths and identify which zoom steps use a dedicated optical camera versus digital or hybrid zoom. Huawei’s published 4× optical, 8× optical-quality and 100× digital figures are not substitutes for a side-by-side image test. Huawei’s Mate 90 Pro Max specifications
- Main-camera flexibility and rendering: Compare variable-aperture options where available, sensor size, highlight handling, color consistency and the amount of sharpening or HDR processing in real images. Digital Camera World specifically notes processing artifacts on its Pura review unit. Digital Camera World’s Pura review
- Telephoto performance: Consider sensor size, optical reach, close-focus or macro capability, stabilization and results in both daylight and low light. A high megapixel figure by itself does not establish image quality. Huawei’s Mate 90 Pro Max specifications · Huawei’s Pura page · Digital Camera World’s alternatives discussion
- Video: Check stabilization, zoom behavior while recording, available resolution and frame-rate modes, and audio. The available Oppo review makes a favorable comparative video claim, but does not provide a direct Mate 90 Pro Max test. Digital Camera World’s alternatives discussion
- Regional fit: Verify Google services, app availability, update support, network bands, warranty and stock for the exact local model. The Pura review’s software observations concern its global review unit. Digital Camera World’s Pura review
- Total cost: Compare current local prices and include any camera accessory you actually need. Huawei announced a CNY 9,499 starting price for the Mate 90 Pro Max in China on 1 October 2026; that is a China launch price, not a current or international price. The optional Z10 module is a separate purchase and is described as requiring the Collector’s Edition. Huawei’s 1 October 2026 launch announcement · Huawei’s official product page
Is any alternative clearly better for photography?
Not on the available evidence. Huawei’s specifications describe a versatile camera array, but specifications cannot settle image quality against another phone. Digital Camera World names the Oppo Find X9 Ultra and Xiaomi 17 Ultra as alternatives in its Pura discussion, while its review assessments are not direct comparisons with the Mate 90 Pro Max. The Pura 90s Pro Max is a plausible closest same-brand option, but the review also reports processing and software caveats. Choose based on your priorities and local version, and treat any claim of a universal winner as unproven without comparable side-by-side images.

Digital Camera World mentions Vivo, Samsung, Google and Apple as part of the broader camera-phone field, but the reviewed passage does not identify specific models. That is not enough evidence to recommend a particular model from those brands here. Digital Camera World’s Pura review
