There is no single replacement for Fandom that works best for every question. For game mechanics and reference pages, look for a dedicated game wiki; for walkthroughs, try GameFAQs; for player-authored tactics, browse Steam Community Guides. IMDb is useful for television episode lists, while a dedicated show wiki is usually a better format for broader lore and collaborative analysis. Check that any result covers the right title and version and is maintained recently.
Choose a source by the question you need answered
“Game guide” can mean a searchable reference page, a start-to-finish walkthrough, or a tip for one difficult encounter. Television needs differ too: an episode list is not the same thing as a wiki covering characters, lore, and production details. Use the source type that fits the task, then check its coverage and update history.
| Your need | Where to start | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Game mechanics, items, quests, or other structured reference | A dedicated community game wiki; use wiki.gg’s directory to discover candidates | Exact game and version, recent updates, and whether the individual wiki is active |
| A beginning-to-end walkthrough or FAQ | GameFAQs | Guide date, platform or version, and whether it addresses your specific obstacle |
| A focused tactic or player explanation for a Steam game | Steam Community Guides | Author, ratings, publication or update date, and game version |
| Television episode order or season list | IMDb episode lists | Correct series, season coverage, and episode metadata |
| Show lore or collaborative analysis | A dedicated wiki for that show, if one exists | Whether it is maintained and covers the particular franchise and topic |
| An offline, illustrated game reference | A printed strategy guide for the specific game | Game, edition, and platform; current availability varies |
Game wikis: best for structured reference
A dedicated game wiki is a natural first stop when you need organized information such as item details, quest steps, or mechanics. wiki.gg provides a directory of game wikis organized by genre and platform, which can help you find a candidate for a particular title. Its directory is community-maintained, and wiki.gg says its staff do not guarantee its accuracy, so treat it as a discovery tool rather than an endorsement of every listed wiki. Check the wiki.gg directory, then inspect the individual project.
- Confirm the page is for the correct game, release, platform, and version; similarly named editions can differ.
- Look for visible update dates or other signs that the relevant pages are current.
- Check whether the wiki’s contributors or project explain how pages are maintained.
Walkthroughs and focused tips for games
GameFAQs for walkthrough-style help
GameFAQs is an option to search when you want an FAQ or walkthrough rather than a set of short reference entries. The existence of a guide does not establish that it is current or complete: check its date, the platform or version it covers, and whether it addresses the point where you are stuck.

Steam Community Guides for player-created strategies
For a game on Steam, its Community Guides can surface player-written explanations and tactics. Steam provides ways to browse and rate guides and to create and share tips. Because guides are player-created, judge each one by its author, ratings, date, and stated game version rather than assuming all entries receive the same editorial review.
Television: episode lists versus show wikis
IMDb for episode lists
IMDb offers episode lists for television series, making it a database-style option when the question is which episodes belong to a series or season. For example, IMDb’s Game of Thrones episode list demonstrates this format. Check that you have the intended series and that the seasons and episode details meet your needs.
A dedicated show wiki for broader lore
If you need character histories, setting details, or collaborative analysis, look for a dedicated wiki for the specific show. An episode database and a community wiki serve different purposes; a suitable, maintained wiki is not guaranteed to exist for every franchise. Check the project itself for current activity and the scope of its coverage.
When a printed strategy guide makes sense
A printed guide is an optional format for game help, particularly if you want an offline or illustrated reference. Scholarly discussion of print game guides describes features such as walkthroughs, maps, and game art. Whether a guide exists—and whether it is available now—depends on the game and edition. Match it to the right platform and release before relying on it; a print guide is not a substitute for a television episode database or show wiki.

How to assess a wiki’s status and reliability
Do not assume that a wiki is official just because its name or presentation looks authoritative. Fandom’s policy says its communities are publicly viewable, open to public editing, and indexed by search engines. Those characteristics describe access and discoverability, not rights-holder endorsement. If a project calls itself official, look for confirmation from the developer, publisher, studio, or production company.
Fandom describes a free official-wiki partnership program intended to connect developers, publishers, studios, and production companies with communities through curated wikis. That program’s existence does not prove that any particular wiki has joined it. For any platform or independent project, look for a project-level or rights-holder statement rather than inferring official status from search results.

A quick decision checklist
- State the question precisely: reference fact, full walkthrough, one tactic, episode list, or show lore.
- Choose the matching source type rather than assuming one site serves every purpose.
- Confirm the exact game or show, plus the edition, platform, season, or version relevant to your question.
- Check the page’s update history and, for player-authored guides, the author and ratings.
- If official status matters, seek confirmation from the project or rights holder.
