Epson’s U.S. listing specifies borderless output up to 8.5 by 11 inches; its European page describes A4 borderless photos. Those are regional listings using different paper conventions, so confirm the specification for your market.

Why it may suit frequent photo printers
The tank system is designed for users who print enough to value refillable ink. Epson says the included bottles can print up to 2,300 photos, and its U.S. product page estimates 4-by-6-inch photos at about 4 cents each versus 40 cents with traditional cartridges. Both are manufacturer claims, not independent measurements or guaranteed costs for every user. Actual expense depends on ink prices, paper, print coverage, settings, and how often you print.

Epson’s U.S. listing says the ET-8500 supports specialty media up to 1.3 mm thick and selected CD/DVD printing. Cartridge-based alternative: Canon PIXMA TR7820
The Canon PIXMA TR7820 is a cartridge-based home all-in-one with photo printing, scanning, copying, and automatic duplex printing, according to Canon. When a dedicated photo printer makes more sense
If your priority is larger photographic prints rather than everyday office work, a dedicated photo printer may be a better category to consider. Some models emphasize larger-format output and omit scanning or copying; Digital Camera World’s guide describes the Epson ET-8550 as a larger-format refillable model with a scanner, while noting other dedicated models that do not include one. Treat these as category alternatives, and confirm the exact functions of any model you consider.
If you need one device for documents as well as photos, make scanning and copying explicit requirements in your shortlist. Do not assume that a printer designed around photographic output also provides every office feature you need.

A quoted ink cost alone is not a complete per-print cost. Use local prices and your expected usage to compare the options:

- Check the printer’s current local price. A lower-cost cartridge model and a refillable-tank model may have different upfront costs, but no current prices are established here.
- Find the local cost of compatible ink. For the ET-8500, confirm bottle compatibility and current replacement-ink prices; for the Canon, check the cartridges specified for the regional model.
- Include the paper you will actually use. Glossy and specialty media can change the cost of each finished print.
- Use a realistic print volume. Frequent printing may make a tank system more attractive, but do not assume a break-even point without current local prices and a stated volume.
- Check the print assumptions. Coverage, settings, and the size of each image affect ink use, so manufacturer estimates may not match your results.
