Which AirPods have the best sound quality?
There is no independently established sound-quality winner in the available evidence. Apple says AirPods 5’s redesigned multiport acoustic architecture and next-generation Adaptive EQ provide richer, more detailed sound, but those are Apple’s product claims, not a comparative listening test. What is the difference between AirPods 5 and AirPods Pro 3?
The central difference is fit: Apple identifies AirPods 5 as open-ear and AirPods Pro 3 as in-ear. That makes them distinct comfort and listening experiences, not simply two ANC levels; an in-ear fit is not universally comfortable or suitable. Apple says AirPods Pro 3 offers up to 3x more ANC than AirPods 5, while AirPods 5 offers up to 50% more external noise reduction than AirPods 4 with ANC. Are AirPods 4 with ANC still worth buying?
They may make sense if a current promotion puts them below AirPods 5 and you prefer that model. Apple’s U.S. shop listing showed $179 for AirPods 4 with ANC on October 5, 2026, while AirPods 5’s U.S. launch price is $129; at those listed prices, the newer AirPods 5 is the more straightforward open-ear ANC starting point. Prices change, so compare the live offer rather than assuming the previous generation is cheaper. AirPods 4 with ANC is rated for up to 4 hours of ANC playback per charge and up to 20 hours with its case in ANC mode.

What to know about Apple features and non-Apple devices
AirPods can work as Bluetooth headphones with non-Apple devices, but Apple says functionality may be limited. Apple Intelligence-dependent Siri and Live Translation features require compatible hardware and software and may have region or language limits.
