There is no evidence-backed universal winner among AI search visibility tools. Choose based on whether you need to track a small set of custom prompts, compare brand mentions and citations across AI engines, investigate crawler and agent activity, or add AI visibility reporting to an SEO suite. The tools below are a shortlist, not a ranked verdict: no independent benchmark or hands-on product test was established.

What an AI search visibility tool can tell you

These products help marketing, SEO, content, and brand teams monitor whether a brand or its pages appear in AI-generated answers. Depending on the product and plan, they may report brand mentions, linked source citations, competitors, sentiment, prompt-level results, or recommendations. Some extend into AI crawler analytics or wider SEO workflows. TechnologyAdvice’s 2026 buyer guide outlines these differing use cases.

A mention and a citation are not the same signal. A mention means the brand name appears in an answer; a citation means the answer links to a page or domain. When evaluating a tool, check whether it records the cited URLs and lets you inspect the response itself, rather than relying only on summary scores.

How to compare the tools

  • Engine and geography coverage: Check the exact plan’s supported AI experiences, countries, and languages. Product-wide coverage claims may not mean every engine is included in the plan you are considering.
  • Prompt method and volume: Find out whether you can enter exact custom questions, discover prompts, or view an index based on estimated search demand. Ask how often prompts are run and how many are included. A small custom set answers a narrower question than a broad index.
  • Evidence depth: Look for captured answers, cited URLs or domains, competitor comparisons, and sentiment if those details matter to your workflow.
  • What you can do with the results: Some tools focus on reporting; others add recommendations, audits, crawler or agent analysis, or integrations. These extras are useful only if your team can act on them.
  • Total cost: Check billing terms and possible charges for additional engines, users, domains, prompts, or credits. Comparison pages show dated snapshots that can differ, so confirm current terms with the vendor.

Shortlist: six tools with different emphases

This is a fit-based comparison, not a ranking. Product capabilities and access can depend on plan, and the linked comparisons are not independent product tests.

Tool Potential fit What to verify
Ahrefs Brand Radar Teams interested in both an AI visibility index and custom prompt tracking. Whether index-derived prompts or custom prompts fit your measurement needs, and the current plan’s engine access and limits.
Peec AI Teams seeking prompt-level analytics for visibility, position, sentiment, competitor share, and source data. Current model coverage, prompt allowance, and pricing; reported details vary across dated snapshots.
Otterly.AI Teams looking for prompt tracking and recommendations, including a potentially lower-entry-cost option in comparison coverage. Which engines are included in the specific plan or require an add-on, and the current price and limits.
Profound Enterprise-oriented teams evaluating AI search analytics, citations, and agent features. Plan availability, engine coverage, and the quote for the required features.
Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit Teams already working within a broader SEO suite. Prompt and engine constraints, domain limits, and billing context for the plan being considered.
Scrunch Teams interested in AI crawler and agent experience analysis alongside visibility monitoring. Which plan contains the crawler, agent, and monitoring features you need.

CiteCycle’s comparison says its prices and engine lists were checked October 3, 2026, and discloses that CiteCycle is included in its comparison. Otterly.AI’s comparison says its pricing and coverage were verified in July 2026. TechnologyAdvice published its buyer guide in June 2026. These sources are useful for orientation, but they do not establish a controlled, independent comparison of the products.

How to interpret visibility scores and prompt tracking

Ask whether a product repeatedly runs your chosen questions or reports results from a pre-collected index. Those approaches answer different questions: custom tracking can show what happens for your specified prompts, while an index can offer broader coverage based on the vendor’s prompt-selection method. Neither automatically proves that the prompts represent what your own customers ask.

Ahrefs says Brand Radar’s index runs more than 446 million search-backed prompts through AI platforms and stores the responses. Ahrefs also says index question sets are retested monthly, use a 90-day reporting window, and that custom prompts can be checked from monthly to daily. These are Ahrefs’ own product and methodology claims, not independently audited measures of market-wide coverage or customer behavior. Read the Ahrefs Brand Radar product page for its explanation of the index and features.

For any vendor, treat visibility metrics as directional evidence. Ask how prompts are selected, how frequently they are checked, whether the product captures the actual answer and cited pages, and what a reported score represents. Do not assume a higher visibility score means improved rankings, more traffic, or increased sales; the evidence here does not establish those outcomes.

A practical selection process

  1. Define the decision you need to make. Decide whether you need to monitor custom questions, analyze citations and competitors, investigate AI crawler or agent activity, or extend an existing SEO workflow.
  2. List the engines and markets that matter. Check each candidate’s plan-level support for the AI experiences, regions, and languages relevant to your buyers.
  3. Compare prompt methods and allowances. Confirm the number of prompts, how often they run, whether questions are custom or index-derived, and whether extra checks cost more.
  4. Inspect the evidence behind the dashboard. Confirm that the tool shows answer text and cited URLs if your team needs to investigate why a brand or page appeared.
  5. Match features to an owner. Choose recommendations, audits, API or MCP access, integrations, and crawler analytics only when someone on the team will use them.
  6. Verify the live commercial terms. Before buying, confirm current price, billing period, included engines, prompt limits, add-ons, and taxes directly with the vendor. Dated comparison prices are not guaranteed quotes.
