If you want an affordable TV with Google’s smart-TV experience, the TCL Q Class 50Q651G is a model worth comparing—not a proven universal winner or the globally cheapest option. TCL identifies it as a 50-inch 4K QLED Google TV. Before buying, check the exact size and regional model’s specifications and current local price. If your existing TV works and has HDMI, a streaming device may be a less costly way to add a smart-TV interface without replacing the screen.

What “Android TV” means when you shop

Retailers sometimes use “Android TV” broadly, but current televisions may instead be described as Google TV. The names are not interchangeable product labels: Google TV is an interface used on smart TVs from more than one manufacturer, while some models still use the Android TV name. Check the operating platform listed for the exact model, screen size, and market rather than relying on a retailer’s category heading. Tom’s Guide discusses the distinction and the range of manufacturers offering Google TVs in its Google TV roundup.

For either built-in platform, plan on an internet connection and Google Account; Google also notes that an electrical outlet is required and that some services require subscriptions. The TV’s smart features do not mean every streaming service is included.

A value-oriented TV to put on your shortlist

TCL Q Class 50Q651G

TCL’s official product page identifies the Q Class 50Q651G as a 50-inch 4K UHD QLED smart TV with Google TV. The series page describes quantum-dot color and HDR-format support. Those details make it a reasonable search candidate if you want a larger 4K Google TV, but they do not establish that it is the best-performing or least expensive television for your needs.

Do not assume every size in a product family has identical specifications. TCL’s specifications opened for the 43-inch Q651G list a 60 Hz refresh rate; that size-specific figure should not be applied automatically to the 50-inch model or to sets sold in other regions. Check the specification entry for the exact size and suffix you plan to buy. TCL’s Q Class 50Q651G product page is the place to confirm its model identity and listed features.

TCL S Class as a comparison family

Android Central includes TCL S Class models among its value-oriented Android/Google TV options. Treat “S Class” as a family to compare, not a complete product identification: confirm the model year, screen size, regional suffix, operating platform, and full specification listing before evaluating a particular listing. A family-level recommendation does not confirm a specific set’s current price or availability.

How to choose the most affordable set for your room

There is no single cheapest suitable TV established for every country, retailer, and date. A low sticker price can also conceal a mismatch, such as a screen that is too small, a panel refresh rate that does not suit your gaming needs, or a picture that is poorly suited to a bright room. Compare the exact local listings against these criteria:

  • Total price and screen size: Compare the price for the size you actually want, including any delivery or other checkout costs shown by the retailer. Prices, stock, and model suffixes can change, so check live listings before purchase.
  • Native refresh rate and gaming features: Look for the panel’s native refresh rate and the specific gaming features and HDMI inputs listed for that model. Do not treat a marketing motion-rate label as the native panel refresh rate.
  • Room brightness and contrast: Consider where the TV will sit and how much light reaches the screen. A set that suits a dim viewing area may not be the best fit for a bright room; check model-specific picture specifications and credible reviews for the exact model.
  • HDR and ports: Confirm the HDR formats and input/HDMI ports you need. Do not assume that a broad series description guarantees the same port set or capabilities on every size and regional version.
  • Software preference: Decide whether you want the smart-TV interface built into the set or would rather keep a working screen and add an external device.

When a streaming device is the cheaper route

If your current television still meets your needs and has an available HDMI input, an HDMI streaming device can add a smart-TV interface without requiring a new display. Google lists Chromecast with Google TV (4K) as supporting output up to 4K Ultra HD at 60 frames per second. Getting 4K HDR requires a 4K TV, 4K content, and a high-speed internet connection; the source device alone cannot upgrade a lower-resolution television to 4K.

Before choosing this path, check that the TV has a compatible HDMI input, that your network can support the services you use, and that you have any required subscriptions. Google’s specifications describe device capabilities, not current retail stock or price. Confirm availability where you live. See Google’s Chromecast and Google TV Streamer specifications for the device details.

Option What it adds What to verify
TV with Google TV built in A television and smart-TV interface in one purchase; the TCL Q651G is one product family to compare. Exact size and suffix, local price, refresh rate, ports, picture needs, platform, and current stock.
HDMI streaming device A smart-TV interface for a compatible existing television, without replacing the display. Available HDMI input, TV resolution, internet access, device availability, and any service subscriptions.

Final checks before you buy

  1. Identify the precise listing. Record the model number, year or generation if shown, screen size, and regional suffix. Do not compare two listings as the same TV based only on a shared family name.
  2. Confirm the platform and specifications. Check the manufacturer’s entry for that exact model and size, including native refresh rate, ports, HDR support, and gaming features relevant to you.
  3. Compare local, current prices. Check more than one retailer in your market and confirm the price and stock at checkout; editorial buying guides are snapshots, and regional availability can differ.
  4. Decide whether you need a new screen. If your existing TV has HDMI and its picture and size remain satisfactory, compare the cost of a streaming device with the cost of replacing the television.
