The best PlayStation action RPG for you depends on what you want to repeat: open-world fantasy, flexible combat roles, a historical setting, party-based action, or co-op. Dragon’s Dogma 2, Rise of the Ronin, and Granblue Fantasy: Relink each match a different preference; there is no single winner for every kind of player.

For an open-world fantasy party: Dragon’s Dogma 2
Choose Dragon’s Dogma 2 if you want a fantasy journey with several combat roles to try and companions travelling alongside you. Its vocation choices range from the melee-focused Fighter to the spellcasting Mage, while the customizable main Pawn and two additional hired Pawns give the adventure a party dynamic.
PlayStation describes it as “A single-player, narrative-driven action-RPG that lets players choose their own experience.” Pawns are companions, not a promise of multiplayer: the official description identifies the game as single-player. The page also describes enemies reacting to tactics, weaknesses that can be exploited, and using the environment during combat.

For historical action and adjustable challenge: Rise of the Ronin
Rise of the Ronin is the closest match here if you want an action RPG set in a historical period rather than a fantasy world. PlayStation describes it as a “combat-focused open-world action RPG” set in 19th-century Japan. The feature description emphasizes close-quarters weapons, period firearms, and decisions and alliances that affect how the story unfolds.
It also suits players who want control over challenge: its difficulty modes can be changed at any time. Story missions can be played online with up to three players, and PlayStation Plus is required for online play. That co-op option is specifically described for story missions, not as a claim that the entire game is multiplayer.

For real-time party combat and co-op: Granblue Fantasy: Relink
Pick Granblue Fantasy: Relink if the appeal of an action RPG is controlling a party in real-time combat or teaming up with other players. PlayStation’s editorial describes a four-character party whose members have unique skills, alongside loot and the option to play solo. Co-op supports up to four players.
