A $500 gaming PC is possible only as a conditional US tower-only target—not a verified checkout total. The most defensible route is a used or unusually discounted discrete graphics card, paired with an economical AM4/DDR4 platform. A Radeon RX 6600 and Ryzen 5 5600 are useful targets, but no current, fully compatible parts list has been verified at or below $500 after shipping and tax. The number also does not automatically include a monitor, peripherals, or an operating-system license.
What a $500 gaming PC budget can realistically cover
Recent budget-build guides recommend a discrete GPU around the Radeon RX 6600 or GeForce RTX 3050 class, a Ryzen 5 5500 or Core i5-12400F, and 16 GB of memory. Another recent guide says builds at this limit generally depend on a used graphics card or a major sale. Those recommendations describe a strategy, not a certified basket with current stock, compatible exact models, shipping, and tax included. See the recent budget-build guidance and the separate guide’s budget assessment.
For a usable comparison, first decide whether your $500 ceiling means the tower alone or the entire gaming setup. Then compare the final delivered cost of every component—not just headline prices—and account for the condition and return terms of any used GPU. If the complete tower exceeds your limit, wait for a sale, reconsider the GPU listing, or raise the budget rather than quietly leaving out a necessary component.

A practical target: Radeon RX 6600 and Ryzen 5 5600
Graphics card: Radeon RX 6600
The RX 6600 is a concrete discrete-GPU target to search for, particularly as a used or discounted card. AMD lists 8 GB of GDDR6 memory, 132 W typical board power, one 8-pin power connector, and a 450 W minimum PSU recommendation on its RX 6600 product page. Check the exact card listing for its condition, dimensions, required connectors, seller protections, and return policy; model-level specifications do not establish the quality or price of an individual listing.

- The world’s fastest gaming processor, built on AMD ‘Zen5’ technology and Next Gen 3D V-Cache.
- 8 cores and 16 threads, delivering +~16% IPC uplift and great power efficiency
- 96MB L3 cache with better thermal performance vs. previous gen and allowing higher clock speeds, up to 5.2GHz
- Drop-in ready for proven Socket AM5 infrastructure
- Cooler not included
AMD’s product page also publishes selected 1080p max-settings examples: 98 FPS in The Division 2, 138 FPS in Doom Eternal, 102 FPS in Far Cry 6, 118 FPS in Shadow of the Tomb Raider, 153 FPS in Apex Legends, and 111 FPS in Fortnite. These are AMD’s selected examples, not independent benchmarks of this proposed complete system or a promise of performance in other games. Game version, system configuration, settings, and updates can affect results.
Processor and platform: Ryzen 5 5600 with a supported B450 or B550 board
AMD specifies that the Ryzen 5 5600 is a six-core, 12-thread AM4 processor supporting DDR4 memory up to 3200 MT/s. B450 and B550 are among its compatible chipset families; check the specific motherboard’s CPU support and BIOS requirements before buying. The CPU requires a discrete graphics card, so it cannot display an image by itself. See AMD’s Ryzen 5 5600 specifications.

Memory, storage, case, and power supply
Recent budget-build guidance points to 16 GB of RAM and an SSD, but exact models, current prices, and a complete compatible parts list are not established. Choose these pieces around the motherboard and case you actually select rather than assuming any parts in a category will fit.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Confirm the motherboard’s memory type, number of slots, and supported configuration before selecting a DDR4 kit.
- Match the SSD interface to a supported motherboard slot or connector.
- Check the motherboard form factor, GPU length and thickness, and CPU-cooler clearance against the case.
- Choose a quality PSU with the required GPU connector and at least AMD’s stated 450 W minimum recommendation for the RX 6600; verify the particular card and the rest of the system’s requirements.
How to check whether a candidate build stays under $500
- Set the scope. Write down whether the ceiling covers the tower only, and whether tax, shipping, peripherals, and an operating system are included.
- Price exact parts together. Record the exact CPU, motherboard, RAM kit, SSD, case, PSU, and GPU listing. Compare the total delivered price rather than adding advertised prices from different sellers.
- Verify compatibility before checkout. Confirm CPU and BIOS support, memory type, storage interface, case clearances, PSU capacity, and GPU power connector for the exact models.
- Assess the GPU listing. Note whether the card is new or used, the seller, return window, and available protections. A low price is not equivalent to a low-risk purchase.
- Recheck the total and target games. Stock and prices can change. Make sure the final total fits your definition of $500 and that the GPU is suitable for the games and resolution you care about.
Until exact models and live listings have been checked, treat RX 6600 plus Ryzen 5 5600 as a platform direction—not a confirmed $500 parts list.

Discrete graphics versus an integrated-graphics fallback
A discrete card such as the RX 6600 is the stronger direction when gaming performance is the priority, but it is also the part most likely to make this budget depend on a used listing or exceptional discount. An integrated-graphics build can avoid buying a separate GPU immediately, but it is not a current, benchmark-verified equivalent. Older sub-$500 guidance using a Ryzen 5 5600G described its gaming as strongest at 720p and modest at 1080p; that historical guidance should not be treated as a present-day performance comparison. See the older integrated-graphics build guidance.
Compare the paths by delivered cost and what it includes, your games and resolution target, seller and return support, PSU and motherboard compatibility, and the cost and ease of adding a GPU later. The available figures do not provide a current head-to-head benchmark for the two options.
